Ubuntu Networking :: Cisco CB21ag Card Won't Connect Faster Than 11Mbps

Jul 21, 2011

I'm setting up my first Linux laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 and my CB21ag wireless card works, but won't achieve speeds over 11Mbps (maybe not "doing 802.11g rates for some reason?) I guess this cardbus card is manufactured by Atheros for Cisco so I maybe that's why I'm seeing two wireless connections - the one with the "airo" driver gives me 11mbps, the other with the ATH driver would only get me 1mbps so I deleted that. The card seems to disconnect/reconnect periodically too - messages pop up frmo the wireless icon ...

lsmod says "airo" and "ath5k" are loaded

So to get 54Mbps (802.11g speed) I'm wondering if theres maybe a different driver module for the CB21ag card or some configuration I need to tweak. More info - security is static WEP, lshw -C network returns some "wierdness" about network 0 ?

-laptop:~$ lshw -C network

Ubuntu :: Cisco Aironet PCMCIA AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 Wireless Adapter Driver

May 16, 2011

Does anyone have a driver for Cisco Aironet PCMCIA AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 wireless adapter that works with Ubuntu 11.04? Ubuntu does not see the card when plugged into the PCMCIA slot. I thought that if Ubuntu had a driver installed, it would pick up the device.

Ubuntu Networking :: Source Code For CB21AG Wireless Card?

Jul 3, 2011

Two Questions:

A: Can you tell me which code belongs to CB21AG code? In the directory debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ I can see two modules written

1. pci.c and
2. ahb.c

Not sure which one to look for!!

B: If I want to build ath5k.ko module by making some changes then how to build it? If I go to directory debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ and give make then it doesnt goes through sudipto@sudipto-ThinkPad-T61p:~/kernel_workspace/Development/source/debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k$ make make: *** No targets. Ubuntu Networking :: Use VPNC To Connect To A Cisco VPN?

Feb 28, 2011

I use VPNC to connect to a Cisco VPN. I am able to connect, but some issues exist when I use SSH. For example, I login through SSH to a computer in the VPN and I execute ls => it works. If I execute ls -la => connection stalls. I think it stalls every time it is supposed to return more content (top, ls /etc).

If I do scp from my end to server => works. If I do scp from server to my end => connection stalls.

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

But since then I havn't been able to connect to internet. I tried sudo pppoeconf and followed the same steps, but to no avail. When I tried ifconfig -v it gave me following output,

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use Wi-Fi Card At All / Cant Connect To Wi-Fi Modem

Jul 11, 2010

I am using Linux Mint 9 Gnome: Isadora (since the same Network Manager applet is used in Ubuntu, I am asking the question here too)I was trying to configure my wireless card to connect my PPPoE connection by using the command pppoeconf wlan0 and also pppoeconf.I was not able to dial my PPPoE connection when connected via Wi-Fi. When I restarted my system, in the Network Manager, under Wireless Networks it says "Device not managed". Now I am not able to use my Wi-Fi card at all and cant connect to my Wi-Fi modem.

There is no hardware Wi-Fi switch, only the key combination Fn+F2 to enable or disable the wireless card.I have used the key combination Fn+F2 (which enables or disables the Wi-Fi card) many a times, but the same thing is displayed in the network manager. If I use LiveCD mode and use any distro even Isadora, the Wi-Fi works fine.My ethernet connection is working fine. I can connect to the internet if I connect my modem using Ethernet port.

Ubuntu :: Mobile Broadband Networking : Card Won't Connect Right / Get It To Work?

Mar 10, 2010

I've been using my Huawei (Vodafone) modem since around two weeks, and so far it's been great, except for a little detail: sometimes, them modem simply won't work. I plug it in, "cd" drive (where the Vodafone Mobile Connect files are) shows up, but no "Vodafone" on Network-Manager.
I believe this has something to do with settings the modem may leave behind after each use, but I'm quite newb, so.

Ubuntu Networking :: Atheros Wireless Card Can See Networks But Can't Connect

Ubuntu Networking :: Card's Reconising A Eth Lead In But Wont Connect?

Dec 12, 2010

I could really do with some help here, been using Ubuntu for a long time now but a very slow learner. I use windows but only for gaming. The problem I have is, last night I had all my systems working fine (Ubuntu Server Edition 10.10 (used to be 10.04 and 8.04 and always work fine) and Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP duel booted on my desktop). All of this worked absolutly worked fine. Last night I needed to reinstall windows on to a seperate HDD and so decided to swap the HDD's in but server and desktop over and fresh install it all. after doing so I did and installed Server edition on the desktop before swapping over due to know screen or keyboard for the server) this is when I first notice that it would not connect to my network. During install it picked up the DHCP but once install no connection dispite ifconfig reconising eth0. so I put the new HDD's in and removed the server HDD and installed windows the ubuntu.. when I booted ubuntu 10.04 on live cd, it reconise the connection but would not connect at all, since then I have tryed putting in a PCI network card as well and comes with the same results. the odd thing is, untill the reinstall it all worked fine and dandy and never had any problems. I have not tryed windows yet as I need to install the drivers for that but I will do that now and post with a answer as soon as I know if it works.

Networking :: Connect Using An Ethernet Card Using Dhcp ?

Feb 15, 2010

My ISP finished some 'upgrades' on its infrastructure. The result is that I am having great difficulty in connecting to the internet.

I have 3 operating systems on my box - XP, Fedora 8 and Feota 12.

I connect using an ethernet card, using dhcp. In fedora 12, the ethernet card is controlled be networkmanager. After the ISP completed their upgrades, I was not able to connect. I tried to connect manually using

Code:

There was an error message -

Code:

I read the advice here: [url], and removed all but the important lines.

But even after that neither ifup eth0 or dhclient eth0 works.

In fedora 8, the ethernet card is activated by ifup eth0 in /etc/rc.local. I was able to connect on a couple of occasions, but that too stopped working. I tried both ifup eth0, dhclient eth0, and tried to use the gui( which fires the dhclient command), but none worked.

When I use windows, it takes about 2 minutes to get an ip (earlier it was immediate). Sometimes that doesnt work and I have to click on "repair" whereupon it starts working.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet: Dell 1397 Wireless Card

Feb 25, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

Code: 09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 13) 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) In Windows 7, everything is just fine. In Ubuntu, my wired connection works like a charm, but is not really accessible. Basically, I have to connect to wireless in Ubuntu or I have no reason for having it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ralink RT2860 Card Will Not Connect To WPA2 In Lucid

May 8, 2010

After installing Lucid, I noticed that my Ralink RT2860 card would not connect to my home network using WPA2 despite the network being visible and of good strength. So I followed the guide at [url] in order to install the newest Ralink drivers.

After installation, same issue. That is, the card will connect to my a/b/g/n network if I leave it unprotected, but it will not connect to the same network if switch it to WPA2. After being given the passphrase, the wireless icon on the indicator applet shows that it is trying to connect, but after awhile it fails. Does anyone know why the built-in driver and also the official Ralink driver are no good for WPA2 in Ubuntu 10.4 for my RT2860 card?

Ubuntu Networking :: Laptop's Wireless Card Can See Access Points But Can't Connect

Jan 15, 2011

I'm not exactly sure if this should be here and not in the Hardware & Laptops section, but seeing as my only problem is with WiFi, I'm guessing this is the right place. Under Ubuntu, my laptop (an Asus K42Ja, more details below) can see wireless networks normally. However, when I attempt to connect, it fails to establish a connection. Under Windows on the same laptop (dual boot), no problems are experienced.

According to this, there's a firmware bug in my wireless chip which causes connections to get dropped. I'm not getting connections at all, but I still tried the workarounds on that page with no luck. The router is a TP-Link TL-WR340G. My previous laptop, a really old one from 2003 running Ubuntu 9.10 was able to connect to that router without problems. The wireless card was Intel on that as well (but, of course, much older). The router is set up to use WPA for security. I didn't use WPA2 as I read something a while ago about problems with WPA2 and some Linux distros. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

If anyone's curious, I'm posting this on Ubuntu, via an ethernet cable to the router mentioned earlier. Some tasty technical bits: dmesg (the latter half of the "timed out" messages is me retrying after double-checking the WPA key)

[Code]....
