View 9 RepliesSo I am trying to install Plastic 2.8.148.0 on a virtual server. I have the install package that i copied over to the machine using WinSCP i then gave the file executable permissions by using the command "chmod +x PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" But when i try to install the package by using the command "sudo ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" It gives me the following message.
sudo: unable to execute ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin - No such file or directory
why it isn't recognizing it? I know the file was there because i was able to change permissions and i can see it with -ls command.
What programs under Linux can capture ethernet traffic? And which ones from them are maintained and most comfortable?

View 5 Replies View RelatedQuite frequently, my display "semi-freezes". I can move the mouse cursor and audio keeps playing but everything else freezes (video, etc).If I click on a drop-down menu (on any programme), the display updates.I can't link it to any programme. It has been happening for quite a while (I've been too busy to try to figure it out and it's not a complete crash). I'm using the newest drivers from the nvidia website (190.53) and KDE 4.3.2 This has been occurring through several different driver versions and distro versions.

Based on the color sometimes it is difficult to understand the conky message. That's why I need semi-transparency which can be controlled upto a level where I can read conky easily. I have already tried with without any success

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to linux (but love it), and I want to start doing the books for my home based business on linux since it is more reliable then Winblows. So I was wondering if anybody knew of some accounting software that is user friendly and fits my needs. Mainly, I need to do these things:
- Repeatedly send out bills, estimates, and invoices via email (preferably that can be set to automatically send scheduled repeat invoices as well)
- Record and keep track of business expenses, vehicle mileage and help budget expenses.
- Store client information and auto insert into invoices, estimates, etc.
- Make reports on gross and net earnings.
That is pretty much all I need it for. It is for a lawn business if that also helps. Jobs repeat on a weekly basis, so I just need a way to keep track of clients, expenses, earnings, and bill for one time and regularly scheduled jobs. I may settle for pay software if there are no freebies that do the trick, but I prefer freeware/open source. I am running Linux Mint 7 KDE edition on a desktop.
I've been using Debian for around ~3 months now, though before that a certain derivative thereof since the start of the year.Long story short is that I was installing packages, as you do, when apt-get prompted that I run apt-get autoremove, as it does. So, trusting the computer, I do, not bothering to read the chunk of packages that it recommends to remove. Life goes on, until a reboot reveals that there are issues.Short story shorter, a quick cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep remove spits out the following:
root@kubrick:~# cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep remove
2011-09-05 22:04:09 startup packages remove
2011-09-05 22:04:09 remove gnome-user-share 2.30.1-1 2.30.1-1
[code]....
I have just installed 9.1 and I like to use a semi-transparent terminal so i can see text under it, but on Karmic, it shows the desktop background underneath.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to have a shell script which does the following,
1. Remove '/' in the file
2. Replace ';' with new line
Input file (sample):
TL/01039;TL/07014;TL/07016;TL/07046;TL/09476;TL/09522
Output file should be:
1) A 13-years old boy wasn't impressed by KDE 4.x. Its own Window$ looks also nice and pretty and have similar functionality.
2) Open Source? How to explain a difference between open source and freeware? Do we really benefit running open source programs instead of freeware? Most of us will never read a line from a source. We want, we require easily accesible binaries.
So why a common window$ user find worthy to run Linux? What can Linux offer? Linux should be as different from window$ as it is possible.
3) Twm window manager is definitely something strange - in the way the vi editor for notepad users. Twm is for some reasons better than any other wm. I started both kde desktop and xfce desktop under twm. Both desktops can be iconyfied. It is your choice which at this moment you prefer. But you can work with both. Full democracy. No more discussions which is better.
4) When finally developers of KDE, GNOME will make these desktop almost perfect they will be obsolete. In fact they are today obsolete. It is about 20 years working in the same manner. Windows, buttons, mouse's click - I think it's enough. At least I am really bored.
5) NextGen UI. Not GUI but UI. A core of the nextgen UI will be an AI
engine. Also see p. 4, we may think about VUI - virtual environements,
you can run all your preferable GUI simultaneously. Or any other today predefined UI (eg. cli).
6) What about windows (parts of a graphical screen)? Nothing. If AI will be in the core you will need windows only for watching video and playing games.
Finall remarks: It is not a project only an idea. My intuition tells me that there is a time for changes. Time for swimming in deep water.
OS: Opensuse 11.4..I am currently using skype for 1 to 1 video chat, although for more than 2 people, it requires that you purchase a pro version or a day pass to use this feature. Is there a freeware application that allows you to have multiple people for a video chat. In the past I know this feature was available for Yahoo messenger, although this was in the days that I was still using Windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to install L7 iptables on my Linux that is used as a firewall for my internal network composed of some 200 computers. For my IDS , I plan to use Snort. Can I install snort on the same linux that I use as my firewall, or I have to install it on a different PC. Do I need to make use of L7 iptables, while I implement Snort. Shall I use Snort as IDS or IDPS? Where is the best place to install Snort, inside or outside the fire wall? Do I need to have a separate professional proxy installed on the linux, or the L7 proxy is sufficient? What would be the minimum hardware resource that Snorts requires(CPU, Ram)? For better security and performance , do I need to replace my present Linux with a PIX or any other hardware firewall?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are trying to set up a livestream to make it possible to have the video from an HD (720p) outdoor security IP camera (h264) and use this on a few websites and use it as a demo to show what the possibilities of IP-television are. We also want to be able to stream it to some settop boxes that are in a customer environement in use. the big deal here is to take the stream from the camera on the on the server.
It would be nice to be able to interrupt the stream to show some other vids or pictures or some interactive messages. I have seen lots of these kinds of "local tv channels" but I don't have a clue how to set it up...
Uplink, money(well...) and hardware isn't really a problem.
I was wondering what version of Fedora I have to install on a server in a professional environment. At the moment I install the Fedora 14 (minimum) version 64bit. Is this a good choice?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to linux and just started with fedora 14. I'm trying to mount the resumemaker professional iso so I can download the program. It's a windows program so I'm not sure if that matters. I've spent the past 2 hours trying to figure it out.
i did:
mkdir /mnt/iso for the new folder
then:
mount -o loop /home/jordanamman/ResumeMaker/ResumeMaker Professional 16.0 Deluxe.iso /mnt/iso
(I've tried like 20 different combinations from different websites so idk what I'm doing wrong)
I have a Windows 7 partition with all my music. I'm a beginning Ubuntu user and I really like it and so would like to have my music in Ubuntu to create playlists and such since I'm spending more time here (in Ubuntu) and will likely spend most of it unless I require a very specific process. As it stands, I've been going back to my Windows partition purely because my playlists are all set up and all my music is in my music player.
How do I migrate the music from that partition to my Ubuntu one without simply copying GBs and GBs of music and taking up twice the space for the same thing?
refrain from suggesting an external drive, as I don't have the money for one currently.
Do they have all the templates and the professional office pack available like Open Office did? Or are the ones from Open Office compatible with Libre Office?

Can/will do some editing of Boot manager if required.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought SuSE 8.0 professional a long time ago, while living in Germany. I have an old German laptop that currently has Win2K installed, and I would now like to replace Windows with Linux on it. The computer boots the initial CD fine and gives me a number of installation choices. If I do not add a "root=/dev/hda1" to the parameters it stops the installation with a "Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01" and if that line is there the error message changes to 03:01.
Is this because the hard drive is already formatted to NTFS? Is there a way to delete the partition and create a new one from the Linux installation disks?
I just installed Red Hat Linux Professional 8.0 in my VMWare, but I do not know how to start X Windows. I have tried to type "startx" on "RUN", but I get error message: Fatal Server error Server already active for display 0. If this server is no longer running, remove tmp/.X0-lock and start again.
