I've installed pingplotter freeware on LinuxMint8 Helena thru Wine, but while it installed and runs successfully, does not seem to ping any host.I'm literally addicted to this program in WinXP, cos my pathetic Wireless Broadband ISP keeps going up and down, so I need to constantly know what the status of the connection is.Has anyone had any success in making ping plotter freeware successfully ping in Linux?

I am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.
But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.
I cannot install any package, so tell me solution which includes not installing any package.
I'm trying to get an old Roland pen plotter to work on Ubuntu.So far I can't even see it. I'm using a Parallel to usb cable, which from other post may be a problem. I think the plotter works, it turns on and things move about as if getting ready to do a job.

I've found plenty of calculators that graph multiple functions but my course has sections designed for graphing calculators and I don't want to purchase one if I can do this using Ubuntu.I know there are a few complicated math solvers (Octave for instance) that can do it, but I'd rather not have to learn yet another programming language! I'd love to have a button for those solutions.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've run into a problem when i put dvd's in it don't see them when i put cd's in it pick them right up?I have added my self to groups audio cdrom disks and a few others but no luck..I even changed out my dvd burner thinking it was messed up and the new one does the same.I'm thinking it something to do with the permission but i might be wrong or maybe something to do with permission for a dvd software dvdrw tools or something i don't know but i'm at a wits end.
When i put in a cd and goto yast>check media its all good but a dvd it say no media found.
i would like to use a sdk or compiler to run/execute a program on ARM type processors but to compile the programs in desktop PC.the sdk or compiler should be a freeware.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to linux (but love it), and I want to start doing the books for my home based business on linux since it is more reliable then Winblows. So I was wondering if anybody knew of some accounting software that is user friendly and fits my needs. Mainly, I need to do these things:
- Repeatedly send out bills, estimates, and invoices via email (preferably that can be set to automatically send scheduled repeat invoices as well)
- Record and keep track of business expenses, vehicle mileage and help budget expenses.
- Store client information and auto insert into invoices, estimates, etc.
- Make reports on gross and net earnings.
That is pretty much all I need it for. It is for a lawn business if that also helps. Jobs repeat on a weekly basis, so I just need a way to keep track of clients, expenses, earnings, and bill for one time and regularly scheduled jobs. I may settle for pay software if there are no freebies that do the trick, but I prefer freeware/open source. I am running Linux Mint 7 KDE edition on a desktop.
1) A 13-years old boy wasn't impressed by KDE 4.x. Its own Window$ looks also nice and pretty and have similar functionality.
2) Open Source? How to explain a difference between open source and freeware? Do we really benefit running open source programs instead of freeware? Most of us will never read a line from a source. We want, we require easily accesible binaries.
So why a common window$ user find worthy to run Linux? What can Linux offer? Linux should be as different from window$ as it is possible.
3) Twm window manager is definitely something strange - in the way the vi editor for notepad users. Twm is for some reasons better than any other wm. I started both kde desktop and xfce desktop under twm. Both desktops can be iconyfied. It is your choice which at this moment you prefer. But you can work with both. Full democracy. No more discussions which is better.
4) When finally developers of KDE, GNOME will make these desktop almost perfect they will be obsolete. In fact they are today obsolete. It is about 20 years working in the same manner. Windows, buttons, mouse's click - I think it's enough. At least I am really bored.
5) NextGen UI. Not GUI but UI. A core of the nextgen UI will be an AI
engine. Also see p. 4, we may think about VUI - virtual environements,
you can run all your preferable GUI simultaneously. Or any other today predefined UI (eg. cli).
6) What about windows (parts of a graphical screen)? Nothing. If AI will be in the core you will need windows only for watching video and playing games.
Finall remarks: It is not a project only an idea. My intuition tells me that there is a time for changes. Time for swimming in deep water.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter reading and trying tons of tutorials and several OS reinstalls, I'm stuck trying to load wireless on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Before you say search forums! I hurry to tell I did. No solution seems to work. WLAN chipset - Broadcom's BCM4311 / BCM 2050. 1st scenario - native CentOS 5.3 drivers Although CentOS recognize WLAN card and displays it's name correctly, neither network or NetworkManager sees any of wireless networks.
2nd scenario - Broadcom's drivers Most know Broadcom has released Linux drivers. I had some more luck with them than in 1st scenario although problems occur. After successfully compiling Kernel module, wireless networks are discovered and can be successfully connected but no pages load. It seems like DNS is not resolving at all and page loading timeouts instantly. Tested on TKIP-encrypted network.
This applies to my 2 opensuse PC's, my Windows PC is fine.I can ping a hostname, say "PC1" but I can not ping PC1.domain.local (even the host PC can not ping it's own FQDN). When I ping just the hostname the ping stats even list the FQDN.Onto the next issue, since all my PC's, have the domain prefix domain.local, my Synology can not. I can ping it's IP and that is it. I can resolve it's name with nmblookup just fine tho and that is what is killing me. How is this not resolving.Even weirder, I can browse to "Synology" in Network Servers under places on the slab.

I need it to change it in "localhost"

I have two machines on this network, one running Ubuntu and the other running Fedora.
When I'm using the Wireless network on the Ubuntu machine, I cannot ping the Fedora machine. Everything else works. I can browse the net fine.
If I switch over to the Wired Network then I can ping the other machine.
I don't understand why ping doesn't work only over the Wireless. I can ping the router so I'm guessing it's getting blocked by the router but I didn't block ICMP traffic.
I tried asking on IRC and they ran out of ideas too to find out where the problem is.
I have a debian server installed with a static ip. Now i am able to ping my ip, but when i try to configure a domain name with the nameserver as my ip, i am not able to ping the domain name

I just installed my first EVER bind DNS server. I am running bind9 on Ubuntu 10.04. Everything seems to be working great except one thing: If I ping a host that I have set up in bind by its HOSTNAME the pings take 5-6 seconds to reply/print to the screen between each echo response. If I ping by the host's IP address, they echo back very quickly.
I have read that IPv6 can cause this, but I have disabled it in /etc/sysctl.conf and the problem still exists.
I know everyone says this can't be a DNS issue, but this never was an issue with dnsmasq (which i was using prior), and it doesn't make sense that the ping are ONLY slow when pinging by hostname and not IP.

So, I have an Virtual Machine running CentOS 5.4. It sits behind a hardware firewall which also does NAT'ing. I've set up plenty of these, so I know for sure the firewall and NAT rules are set up correctly. From the host, I can ping anything in my subnet and the gateway. But I can't ping anything else beyond the gateway. I can perform DNS queries and when I try to ping, it finds the appropriate IP address.But from the outside, I can ping the PUBLIC address (It's a 1 public to 1 private address NAT, not 1 public to multiple private). I've tried it with IPTABLES on and off, with no change.

I try to use the "ping -a" command for getting an audible ping. But there is just silence The command "beep" works fine, so everything should be ok with the speaker (in the konsole).
