I mostly need it to filter away background noise from interviews. So, the editor should allow me to tweak the recordings in the frequency domain. I'm a Kubuntu user, so, if possible, propose me KDE apps!
View 1 RepliesI have recently purchase some audio equipment and am wanting to get the most out of it. From what I've read, an OS/media player will tend to "resample" audio frequencies at the software/soundcard level before sending it, and from what I gather, that isn't a perfect 1-to-1 copy of my audio to my speaker. My equipment:
Ubuntu: 11.04 x64
Mobo (integrated sound): ASUS P5QL-CM - S/PDIF out on Intel G45 chipset / VT1708B, 8-Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC
AV receiver: Onkyo HT-R380 (PDF manual)
Speakers: Stereo (connected to 'A' ouput on AVR) - Acoustic Research Red Box II (circa early 90s)
I have the ASUS S/PDIF 'addon' and I have Ubuntu set to send audio through that. I think "bit streaming" is what I am after but I am at a loss as to how to make it happen.
I have a Windows 7 partition with all my music. I'm a beginning Ubuntu user and I really like it and so would like to have my music in Ubuntu to create playlists and such since I'm spending more time here (in Ubuntu) and will likely spend most of it unless I require a very specific process. As it stands, I've been going back to my Windows partition purely because my playlists are all set up and all my music is in my music player.
How do I migrate the music from that partition to my Ubuntu one without simply copying GBs and GBs of music and taking up twice the space for the same thing?
refrain from suggesting an external drive, as I don't have the money for one currently.
Could anyone recommend me a good tag editor for multimedia files?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Intel Xeon X 3440 processor. The processor has 11 frequency steps to chose from. I have used cpufreq-selector for choosing a frequency and it worked fine. But, all of a sudden it stops working out of the 11 steps i can change to only 2 frequencies and rest fail to work. I am clueless as to why it stopped working suddenly.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.

So my question is, did the updates to pulse audio (in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository) fix the pulse audio situation? Are there ANY helpful views on this?
Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).
I'm installing ffmpeg with libavfilter using this guide but i can not get the movie filter to compile when passing --enable-avfilter-lavf to ffmpeg i'm using libavfilter r5935 and the test copy of ffmpeg.

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
I am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly.When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.
On windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved.What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line.The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I am trying to do: I have a lot of 2 or 3 CD compilation sets. I like to re do the track numbers to 101/102/103/104 etc for CD1, 201/202/203 etc for CD2, 301/302/303/etc for CD3. I then give them all the same album name. This then means I can listen to all 3 CDs on a journey non stop with out having to take my MP3 player out my coat to change it. Otherwise my MP3 player sees each CD as a different album and I can't que albums up on it - or if I just rename the album to the same on all 3 in the tags it plays track 1 from cd 1, then track 1 from cd 2, and so on. In MP3tag I would just select the tracks, go to the auto numbering wizard, and tell it to start at 101 (or 201 or 301 depending on the CD number).
View 6 Replies View RelatedInstalled pitivi. It takes 20 minutes to put a 3-minute clip on the timeline and the sound is totally messed up. Installed lives, it loads the clip but insists there is no audio plus the black on dark gray menus are almost unreadable. Installed kdenlive, it loads the clip but playback produces a short squawk then crash, and I gather I'd have to risk destroying my sound by uninstalling pulseaudio. Someone suggested OpenShot.
Followed the instructions there:
Installed Open Movie Editor, it won't even read the clip. Now, Movie Player handles that clip (a VOB file from a DVD I had made from a miniDVB tape) perfectly as long as I don't touch the time slidebar, so I would imagine if there were a usable video editor out there something would work.
Does anybody know of a MP3 tag editor that can be used on a command line and be scriptable?

I am trying to teach myself how to create and edit videos by inserting music, transitions, etc. However, I want to add special effects such as fireworks, explosions, get text to light up, blur, etc, and add sparkle type effects. I know Open Shot won't do this and it does not look likve Kdenlive will either. Trying to find something that will jazz my videos and almost give them a semi professional quality to them. Is there any other Open Source video editor type program that can do special effects like what I am looking for?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using gtk record my desktop, which does a very good job and records nicely as a .ogv. The problem is, the Openshot editor doesn't appear to support .ogv files, which means I have to find some way of converting the .ovg to something Openshot can use. Having used both Pitivi and Arista to re-encode the file, I find the picture quality suffers some substantial loss by becoming noisy.
So, can anyone suggest:
1. A way to get Openshot to recognise .ogv files natively? or,
2. Suggest another screencast program that records to a high quality file that Openshot understands? or,
3. Suggest a video editing program that can open and work with .ogv files, allowing the addition of music and titles (text), and then save to a high quality file like mp4?
Do they have all the templates and the professional office pack available like Open Office did? Or are the ones from Open Office compatible with Libre Office?

From browsing on net it seems many people have problems with dual booting. (I did several years back). Any simple Free boot managers that are tried and tested. Can/will do some editing of Boot manager if required.

The documentation for LiVES [URL] shows a "colour correction" effect that I don't see anywhere on my copy of LiVES 1.1.5. My digging so far hasn't found a plug-in that does color correction.
My friends and I are into freerunning/parkour (look it up if you don't know it : D) and we like to make videos sometimes. Slow motion is a MUST.
The problem is, I haven't been able to find any good video editors for linux. I've just been using windows movie maker when it comes to editing, but I haven't been able to find anything on linux that really allows slowmo.
I tried Openshot video editor and LiVES video editor, but they've both been no luck. Open shot allows you to play a clip at half speed. This is fine, except it doesn't adjust the timeline accordingly, so clips get cut off when they're only part of the way through, and I can't seem to adjust the timeline to get it to work. And as far as LiVES, I haven't been able to find the "effects" button, or anything that allows you to do stuff to clips.
