May 31, 2011So I was following the majority of this guideand sometime last night my computer went awry. First all my icons went blank, and I was unable to open anything. I had to reboot, and upon trying to log back in as a user I got an error /bin/bash: Command not found. I tried removing the user completely and starting from scratch but I am unable to remove the /home/user/.bash_history file. I even tried with root. I'm at a complete loss, confused. I know I did have to chomd 644 the entire /etc directory because I was getting some permission errors there.

Jun 4, 2009I have used same Hardware and OS platfrom for web server benchmarking and i have used similar php and jsp scripts for Apache and Tomcat. For this testing i have used apache ab benchmarking toolFrom this statistics i would like to clarify the performances about Apache and Tomcat.
1. why Tomcat have taken too much of time to finish this 10 million requests to compare with Apache?
2. why this huge different for "Request per Second"?
3. To Tomcat i have increased multi thread level 300 and JVM memory usage upto 2048mb(but performances not increased), rather than these, is there any other performance tune-up settings for Tomcat?
4. from these statistics, can i come to the conclusion that apache is the best?
5.do u feel that ab tool favouring to Apache?

Mar 22, 2011When I google this I get a million results, most of which are either too in-depth to be practical or advertisements for one solution or another. Is there a general guideline for hardening a linux (kubuntu) system? A set of steps say, to close all ports and disable all listening services like you would do to a windows machine? I can hardly believe that there are NO vulnerable points of attack on a default kubuntu 10.10 install. I don't know very much right now so I'm looking for something to fill in the gaps and translate my knowledge of windows (in)security into a holistic view of how the penguin operates.

This same is on burning cd /dvd the device buffer is an about 10-15% this dvd is Pionier 116D on windows xp work perfect. Fedora :: File Browser Missing From FC 13 System Tools Menu?
Aug 18, 2010I installed Fedora Core 13 x86-64 from the installation DVD and picked the "Software Development" installation. I notice that the Applications->System Tools menu doesn't have "File Browser" on it.
Nautilus is installed, so I can create a launcher for it. I'm merely curious whether this is a change or bug in FC 13? Or should I suspect that I myself deleted the file browser launcher accidentally? The machine is a laptop and I find the mousepad awkward to use.

Fedora :: Configuring Directory Server 389 Samba LDAP Tools
Feb 5, 2010I've been busy with configuring Samba with the 389-Directory Server (former Fedora Directory Server) for the past weeks and I almost have everything working. The last thing (I hope) that I haven working are the smbldap-tools which I'd like to use for adding computers and users to the domain. The part where I'm stuck is with the security certificates. I don know how to get the client certificates out of my installation.
My smbldap.conf file contains this:

Security :: Server "hardening" - Users Accidentally Locking Cluster Master Node?
Nov 17, 2010I run a compute cluster with only a few users. Occasionally a user will accidently run a job on the master node that runs out RAM/swaps then hanges up for a while.In /etc/security/limits.conf I have set memlock to 7.5GB (master has 8GB RAM) and maybe that is what lets the machine come back rather than hanging completely? Is this the right setting to physocally limit a single user from asking for more RAM than the system has and bringing down the system? Should I set this to 2GB or so or is there something else I can do??

i currently have UFW installed.
I would ideally like to have my firewall be a little rude, or rather just not polite. I know what i am asking will break the RFC, but i consider this ok due to the security benefits.
I would like to have my firewall
1) ignore (eg drop without responding)all packets that dont start with a syn flag
2)for all other traffic that is currently blocked, have it dropped (again drop it without responding)
If there are any other rules you can think of i would like to know them. I already have only the services i want open and the rest blocked.

So I was wondering if anybody knew of some accounting software that is user friendly and fits my needs. Mainly, I need to do these things:
- Repeatedly send out bills, estimates, and invoices via email (preferably that can be set to automatically send scheduled repeat invoices as well)
- Record and keep track of business expenses, vehicle mileage and help budget expenses.
- Store client information and auto insert into invoices, estimates, etc.
- Make reports on gross and net earnings.
That is pretty much all I need it for. It is for a lawn business if that also helps. Jobs repeat on a weekly basis, so I just need a way to keep track of clients, expenses, earnings, and bill for one time and regularly scheduled jobs. I may settle for pay software if there are no freebies that do the trick, but I prefer freeware/open source. I am running Linux Mint 7 KDE edition on a desktop.

Mar 27, 2010I wanted to know how can I cross compile SMS SERVER TOOL for an embedded computer and make just one binary file for it or how can I change all of its default files places like its demon and object file and gather all of them to one directory to execute and use and run.let me explain it better for you : I have an embedded computer with Linux OS that its file system is read only and I can not add any file to /usr /lib and ..... and I can just mount a SD memory card to it and copy all of my programs to it and run them from there as you understand I have two choices to choose, first make one big binary file for each program that I am doing it now and it is not a suitable solution and the second is finding the way to change default place of shared object file of my program.now you tell me what can I do to solving this problem.
