How to play quicktime movies in Linux?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI managed to damage my 11.2 installation so it starts in the GUI mode only in failsafe mode. Actually I tried before to repair the installation, using the install DVD, but the automatic repair procedure failed. More than that, since then boot loader also seams to be "repaired" so that the Windows installation doesn't appear in the boot menu, but this is another thing. For me, now, the fastest way to get a stable system is to make a new installation. The biggest problem is that I cannot save/backup the emails and accounts settings in an elegant way. I'm using Thunderbird. Of course I would also like to save other apps settings. So is there a way to save user application settings so that I can used them after a new install? I had a look to the yast backup tool but these seams to be a way to archive files, or am I wrong?
View 9 Replies View Relatedafter the upgrade to maverick, gnome-session-save doesn't save applications on shutdown or logout as it did on Lucid.I've noticed the following things:
On Lucid, if I had a stopped job in a shell, the system refused to logout or shutdown, showing a confirmation window. On Maverick, the CPU goes to 100% and then the computer shuts down; on reboot, no application is saved
On Maverick, if there are NO stopped jobs in a shell, I can logout cleanly but only a few applications are saved (eg. terminal, firefox) but others aren't (eg. empathy, evolution) I've checked "Automatically remember application on exit" in "Session management" menu.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu. It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt
Code:
cvt 1280 720 60
and got this result:
Quote:
# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
then i added this to xrandr
Code:
xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
and
Code:
xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720
now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

View 11 Replies View RelatedTry any quicktime site... apple trailers etc. I've tried:
mplayerplugin that comes with Slack 13
mplayerplugin svn compiled from source, with Seamonkey
vlc plugin for firefox
One of two things always happens: it "loads" forever, or it crashes the browser. I don't understand. The kicker is that LOCALLY played mov files do seem to work (download some here [URL])! Which makes no sense.
Config a CentOS iptables.I issued some iptables rules.the rules were effective at once. Then, I came with a "iptables-save", but the "/etc/sysconfig/iptables" file hasn't been updated, it still loads the defaults rules with CentOS after reboot.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a quicktime .mov movie file in iMovie on a Mac (that is not available anymore) and I want to 1) play & 2) edit the movie. I'd be happy to use a different format if I can figure out how to change it. Has anyone else done this?
Edit: If you skip down to post #16 you'll see I discovered it actually isn't a matter of editing a .mov file, but it turns out I don't have a properly exported quicktime .mov file. Instead I have (I'm not sure but I think its iMovie ver. 4.) 1) an .iMovieProj text file that lists the cuts by frame in and frame out, 2) an .mov file that isn't the complete file I thought it was and 3) a folder of all the clips that are in Apple's Quicktime DV format. In this thread people taught me about transcoding from the Apple's Quicktime DV format to liberated formats easier to work with. Given this knowledge and since I have a list of the cuts I'm asking if people could recommend a Linux video editor that would be easy to enter the tedious frame in, frame out info so I could reassemble the video.
i don't know how to Install quick-time player..
i had currently downloaded Quick-time,but i don't know how to install it...can some explain me how to do this step-by-step...
I've got a laptop running i386 Debian Lenny, and I was able to get Iceweasel to run flash videos by installing packages via debian-multimedia. However, now I need to get embedded streaming (real time) QuickTime videos to display (as part of a project at work). Is there something I should install from the repos for that? Or do I need a Firefox plug-in from the net? I saw a few libs in the repos that seem related, but I wasn't sure if that was what I needed.

I have been using this app on my Mac to edit video. I find it very easy when I want to save snippets of video. Is there a similar app for Linux Ubuntu. I am not looking for something like iMovie because that is overkill for what I am doing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to have QuickTime playback support in Firefox. I did find some "compile from code" packages and some rpms but they apparently have quite a bit of dependencies, at least one of them had quite a lot! Since figuring out dependencies is one of YUM's main attractions I gave it a go with:
[root@localhost yum.repos.d]# yum search quicktime
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* addons: www.ontime1405.com

Is there a centos version for either of the above?
