I try to install QuickTime plugin for Firefox. How do you achieve this? I want to watch videos on Apple's website and all videos there complain that my Firefox on Ubuntu 9.04 does not have QuickTime.

I placed the mplayerplug-in.so file into /home/.mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder but without success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an openvz vps and it has a vps admin panel from solusvm for administration.In the vps admin panel is a console (Java), but mine looks like the picture below.I checked in firefox and thought maybe there was something wrong with my java plugin. Everywhere I look I see different instructions with different directories and it was confusing.So I said just do it like slackware and I got the slackware64-current/source/local/jre directory and build jre-6u25xx86_64-1.txz from jre.SlackBuild and then upgradepkg --install-new --verbose jre-6u20-x86_64-1%jre-6u25-x86_64-1.txzI hope I didn't break my slackware.Before I did that, I disabled my flash plugin in firefox according to some instructions before upgrading jre.Then I went to my vps control solusvm vps control panel and went to console. Nothing.Then I remembered I disabled my flash plugin in firefox. so I enabled it. It's works again. I get the same error as in the picture all over again.So if that doesn't make my vps control panel work, what do I need to do to make it work? I tried in windows and it had to install the flasplayer plugin before it worked - Are there more than one flashplayer plugins?

I have installed the flash-plugin using yum. Restarted firefox but still not able to play ..... videos.

But I am not able to see it in the plugins list, when I goto Tool >> add-ons >> plugins. I tried about login in the browser address bar, got the list, but its a lot of details, which one would tell me that the adobe flash player is installed. Later I downloaded the tar file and unzipped it and manually placed the .so file in the plugin folder as mentioned in the forums, but no luck.

My solution was to get a core dump of the process and grep through it, but there might be a layman's way to do it (for example, somehow get Firefox to load the cached version of the previous page). Thus, solutions that only solve the problem in the future, without addressing the present, are off-topic in this question.

I'm trying to have QuickTime playback support in Firefox. I did find some "compile from code" packages and some rpms but they apparently have quite a bit of dependencies, at least one of them had quite a lot! Since figuring out dependencies is one of YUM's main attractions I gave it a go with:

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI dislike Iceweasel as it has older versions, so I installed Firefox 4.0.1 on my new install of Debian Sid. Downloaded the tar.bz2 package, unpacked it in opt, linked /usr/bin/firefox to /opt/firefox/firefox, figured out why it wasn't running (it needed ia32-libs-gtk), got it to run, and now it doesn't see the flash plugin.
My usual technique was to put firefox in opt, close it, then aptitude-install flashplugin-nonfree, which pulled the plugin and made it work with both Iceweasel and Firefox. But right now, only Iceweasel has the flash plugin installed.
I found libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/; usually I'd try copying it in /opt/firefox/plugins, or ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins, but neither of these directories exist. In fact, I can't seem to find a dedicated plugin directory anywhere firefox-related. What do I do?
I installed shockwave to try and get a game working. The game ended up not working correctly and shockwave installe da plugin to play flash content in Firefox. So now Firefox won't play flash content. I removed Shckwave but Shockwave left the plugin for Firefox. I cannot seem to getrid of it I even reintalled the flash plugin to no avil. So how to get rid of the Shockwave plugin from Firefox. Then I can reinstall the flash plugin.

I read that (1) firefox 3.6 is supported, but it may not work on distributions where a custom patch has been applied on the gecko engine. Is this the case of ff 3.6 on fedora 13?

Has anyone here gotten the Sun Java plugin (1.6.0_20) working in Firefox under F13? I'm using the Firefox 3.6.3-4 RPM supplied by F13, and I created the link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to ${JAVA_HOME}/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so as I've always done, but the plugin fails to show up when I check the plugins in Firefox. I installed some other plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and they work fine, only Java doesn't work. It's weird because I've never had a problem getting the Java plugin to work in Firefox before this, and I've done it a million times.
I don't have the Fedora-supplied java packages installed, so it's not a issue of conflicting plugins. And the plugin does work in Opera. I also tried the 1.6.0_18 plugin from Sun, and that didn't work in Firefox either, though it works in F11. I can't figure out what's causing this just in F13. So far this is the only problem I've had in F13, everything else has worked great.

I have tried sever tutorials of this type (some slightly different) [URL]. However, I cannot get firefox to recognize the plugin. When I used the tutorial above I was also getting SELinux AVC denial warnings. If not clearly stated above, I downloaded the JRE directly from Oracle. I need to use the version from Oracle/Sun because the VPN client I have to use (from Juniper Networks) will not work with gcj or the openjdk provided from the default yum repositories.

There are 4 programs which provide 'java'.
So in theory OpenJDK should be selected and work with Firefox, unfortunately it doesn't.

On an new Ubuntu 9.10 installation, I chose the wrong flash player to run with Firefox. It's the gnash one. I should take the Adobe one. How do I remove it, so Firefox will see the plugin's not there and then prompt me for a new plugin?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI opened Firefox, and tried to use an Internet speed tester that requires Java. I've always used this with no problems. Today, I'm having problems with it. It told me to check that my Java plugin was enabled, or whatnot. I looked at Tools > Add-Ons > Plugins, and found that Java is gone....
What's up with that? I'm using the latest version of Firefox (version 3.6.8 / Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu cononical - 1.0) on Ubuntu 9.10.
I checked with Synaptic Package Manager, and I found sun-java6-jre, and all of it's related packages, openjdk-6jre-* packages, etc. were installed (over ten packages with 'java' or 'jre' and '6' in the package names).
So, I don't understand why Tools > Add-Ons > Plugins doesn't show my java plugin anymore. I also checked about: plugins (had to put a space between the colon and 'plugins' because a smiley shows up aboutlugins), but there was nothing in there about java either.
What's going on? Has Ubuntu decided it doesn't want to use Java (I remember reading something about Oracle changing the license for Sun Java somewhere)? Or is this a fluke?
Either way. Synaptic Package Manager says Java is installed... So, what else do I need to do to fix this? I read other posts about Firefox and Java, but they were about installing java, and the like, and I have Java installed....

At first, I enabled the partner source and installed "sun-java6-plugin", as that was listed in an earlier Ubuntu install's package list. But Firefox does not see this plugin (even after a reboot). So I removed that package and its friends, and installed "icedtea6-plugin" as found on [url], but this does not work, either. This is with Ubuntu 10.10 for i386 on an ASUS Eee PC 900.
How to get a Java plugin working? I know I've had it working before without having to do anything like this. But that could have been an earlier version of Firefox. Could Firefox now be broken? Or could they have blocked Java, now?
