Slackware :: Use Either Iwconfig Or Wpa_supplicant And Edit The Corresponding Config Files?
Jun 3, 2010
My brother is thinking of installing Slackware64 13.1 on his laptop. He was wondering though how to configure his wireless card. How would he do this? He is using an Intel wireless card, but I am unsure of the exact model. Another question is would Wicd do this automatically or do you still have to use either iwconfig or wpa_supplicant and edit the corresponding config files?
I've got my laptop working with my UNI's rather complex wifi setup.
I need to get access to my wpa_supplicant file so i can use it with my nook and a few other devices that i need to get wifi access.
Network manager, i know, does all the wpa stuff dynamically and through scripts, so is there any way that i can get network manager to generate my wpa_supplicant config?
During upgrade the system ask me what to do about config files. K to keep old ones then other options to change config files to the new system and backup old one with *.old extension and 2 other options I don't remember. What do you think is the best choice if I have changed my xorg.conf, my layout and my fonts.
In the Firefox source directory is a file called 'configure.in'. I simply want to make a small edit to this file to carry out a bit of experimentation. However, whether I use KWrite, KEdit or Kate, I run into the same problem that after I have saved the file, the build always crashes out like this:
are there any light-weight program in slackware to edit a .AI files.. i only need a software that can edit(mainly slice) an image in an adobe illustrator file.
All rc.inet1 an rc.wireless scripts work well if a wireless extension is on wlan(x). My notebook has Intel Pro 2100 wireless adapter (the ipw2100 module). By the system the card is marked as eth1. If you have a look at rc.inet1(.conf) you see that by default an eth1 has no wireless extensions. how to set up my network.
The new 2.6.35.7 kernel fails to boot on my Lenovo laptop. I had previously compiled a 2.6.35 kernel with a couple of different .config files and never had it boot properly. The failure occurs very quickly and I am including the final screenshot in case that helps.
I am running -current on an ASUS eeePC 1000HE. Wireless was working fine up until the time I applied the latest changes from the Slack -current tree, which upgraded wpa_supplicant. Now, no networks are detected.
I looked at some related threads here and did some basic checking: neither the eth1 nor wlan0 interfaces show up in iwconfig or ifconfig output. Am afraid I am still a wireless dunderhead and don't know where to start troubleshooting this issue.
I just installed Slackware 13.1 on my Asus 1215T, and I've been trying to get it to connect to my wireless network in my home. When I type iwconfig I get no wireless extensions, and ifconfig returns only lo, no wlan0. I read the Slackbook wiki and tried to configure the inet1.conf and wireless.conf but still no luck...
I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.
My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)
I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:
Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
I am configuring a third party repo (Project fog).Actually i need to know ,How to edit config.sh
The error i am getting is > Checking package: php-gettext...Failed!
The manual say that . It is a part of the base PHP package. You will need to edit /lib/redhat/config.sh & remove php-gettext from the packages list on line 22 .
I have edited /etc/lilo.conf file and changed timeout setting to 30 (in tenth of seconds so 3 seconds) but when I reboot old value - 2 minutes is displayed. Is anything else I need to change?
I want to edit the config file of an application I have installed and the documentation says that the config file is per-user and therefore stored in "~/". Which folder is that? The app itself is installed in "/usr/local/bin/".
Using xubuntu 11.04, how do I maually give myself a static IP address and other IPv4 settings? I see the edit connections panel and saved a setting there but can't see how to use that setting. The only useable setting when I'm connected by ethernet is Auto eth0.
Having a problem in my awstats, I'm a little lost to were to edit the config file to show all IP's and host so far its only showing up my IP and the PC's on my network and nothing else.
I have 2 harddisks 1 tb and 160 gb. In 1 tb fedora is installed. In 160 gb windows is installed. 1 tb is the master. 160 gb is not being detected. How to edit grub.conf file to edit the menu?
The content of grub.conf is # grub.conf generated by anaconda # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You do not have a /boot partition. There I had legacy driver from nVidia but resolution was degraded to 640x320 and in their version 8.10 I cannot edit xorg.config (there was not anythig about resolution) I hoped in fedora i`ll fix this.
I recently upgraded from fc8. I am running two nvidia NVS 285 cards with four monitors and using nvidia driver 190.53-pkg1. I have one card up and running and can edit the config file and make to other two work I just can't get all four to work together.
If you know Slackware you know Linux. If you know Red Hat you only know Red Hat".Now I made a decision to install Slackware near Ubuntu and Xp.I've installed Slackware with LILO.Well LILO didn't add Ubuntu. So I needed to install from a LiveCD GRUB.Now I've got another problem:GRUB didn't add Slackware.I made a research and realised that I must to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. This is my hard disk(XP:sda1,sda5;Ubuntu:sda7,sda8;Slackware: /->sda9 /home->sda10): [URL] This is general code for adding an OS to GRUB:
title Slackware root (hd0,x) kernel /<vmlinuz_filename> ro root=/dev/hda<partition> initrd /<initrd_filename>
[code]....
How can I find initrd for Slackware and I'd like to know how I must to write correct code to add Slackware to GRUB?
i've been wondering what's up with the tty's in slack. [ctrl]-[alt]-[f1-f5] don't seem to work for CLI consoles, and [ctrl]-[alt]-[f8-f10] don't work for X. where's the config file to change this?
I've read that you can fix lilo after a bad edit by booting from install cd1 and entering: Code:boot: bare.i root=/dev/hda X noinitrd ro at the boot prompt. Can someone confirm this or suggest a better way? I'm using slackware 13.
I have Slackware64 installed on a LAN gateway/server. The box is running an NFS/NIS server for roaming profiles. I wonder how I can edit hosts.allow more tightly with NFS. I googled around a bit and decided on the following configuration:
