Slackware :: KDE 4.5 Bug In Configure Window Behavior

Oct 12, 2010

Has anyone noticed this bug in KDE 4.5? It started for me with the official 4.5.1 packages in -current, and is now continuing with Alien Bob's 4.5.2 packages. I don't think it happened with previous 4.5.0 builds I was using.

1) Right-click title bar, select "Configure Window Behavior"
2) the "Desktop Effects" option is selected by default, but displays the "Window Decorations" screen instead.
3) Clicking on another option on the left will show appropriate screen.
4) Finally clicking on "Desktop Effects" will show the proper screen to configure effects.

[URL]. [In the screenshot above, you can see "Desktop Effects" pre-selected, but displaying the wrong screen.]. Bug still shows up with a brand new user account with fresh .kde. My searching for other bug reports has turned up nothing, so I'm wondering if this is unique to slackware for whatever reason. I'm running slackware64-current, up to date, with NVIDIA binary drivers.

General :: Modify The "Configure Window Behavior" Settings

Sep 12, 2010

I am trying to modify the "Configure Window Behavior" settings so that a new KWrite window will have a default size and location that is not affected by anything I did to a previous KWrite window. I have found that "Force" does that; unfortunately, "Force" also locks the window in position, preventing me from moving or resizing it if I should want to. Is there any setting that forces a default window size and location but allows me to change it?

Fedora :: Where Did 'Window Behavior' Go

Nov 27, 2009

There used to be an option within the Preferences section in Gnome for 'Window Behaviour' where you could change the behaviour of windows such as roll up on double click instead of maximize and that sort of stuff.I can't seem to find it on F12 and can't find anything else that allows me to adjust those types of behaviours.

Ubuntu :: Window Behavior Changes When Adding Third Monitor

Feb 26, 2011

When I run my dual monitors with twinview on an NVidia GeForce 8400GS when I maximize a window it does it as you would expect (on one monitor) and when a pop up comes out of an application or when I bring up Synapse it appears in the center of my monitor. However, when I add a third monitor as a separate X window, the behavior of the windows on my dual screens becomes very different. It maximizes across both monitors, and Synapse opens with the center between the two monitors.Any thoughts on how to fix this or why it would change?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Nvidia Twinview Window Maximize Behavior?

Aug 22, 2010

I have 2 nvidia graphics cards and 3 monitors. One graphicss card is an nvidia 460 and the second one is an nvidia 8400 GS. I'm on Ubuntu lucid 64 bit gnome desktop. I use the nvidia drivers . 2 monitors are connected to the 460 card setup as twinview the last monitor is connected to the 8400 GS set as a separate xscreen.

When I now maximize a window on the 2 monitors which are set as twin view it expands this window gets stretched over both screens. I would like to know how I can set it so that an maximized window get only expands on the current screen in twinview so that I can still move windows from 1 screen to another.

Software :: Configure Double Click Behavior In Gnome (or Other) Terminal?

Jul 22, 2010

part of my current work involves cutting and pasting file names to text files. Double clicking on the terminal should select the "word" (and triple clicking selects the line). Many of my files contain special characters such as a "+" sign, and double clicking only seems to select up to the plus sign. (The "+" is useful information, so renaming he files isn't really an option, plus it would take too long).

Is it possible in gnome terminal (or a different terminal - gnome terminal is the default on this system) to reconfigure this so it selects up to the whitespace, rather than the "+" sign?

Slackware :: Track Down The Cause Of An Annoying XFCE Behavior?

Jan 13, 2011

I'm using -current and XFCE 4.6.2 hasn't been playing very nice. Its menu has an odd behavior. AFAIK, XFCE's menu is automatically generated based on the .desktop files from /usr/share/applications and somewhere else when it comes to wine programs. The menu has an "Other" tab, which includes Gvim and, ever since I installed it, Civilization IV BTS.The problem is that sometimes this "other" menu just disappears after staying logged in for some time, like overnight. I was thinking that this had something to do with suspending to ram, but I don't think that's the case as I've been suspending over and over and the "other" menu just stays there.I don't know if someone else has noticed similar behavior so I'm not waiting for an answer as to what may be causing the issue. I'd like to know where I can start looking for the cause.XFCE masters, where can I start looking?

Slackware :: Mouse Behavior In KDE4 Konqueror

May 27, 2010

I installed 13.1 last night and started playing with KDE4.4.3. I'm talking about Konqueror as a file manager only here. My default view is to have the folder tree in the left pane, with a detailed view pane on the right. In KDE3, I use the "Tree List View".In KDE3, I had my mouse set to "double-click to open files and folders". However, in KDE3's konqueror, you could still navigate the folder tree with a single click. One click on a folder in the left pane would show the folder's contents in the right pane, or a double click in the left pane would expand the tree to show subdirectories. I could still single-click on files in the right pane to highlight them without opening them.

In KDE4's konqueror, it requires a double-click to do anything with the folders, either to display in the right pane or expand the tree. It's a lot more effort just to get around in the folder tree. I found the Mouse setting in the System Settings that changes overall single-click/double-click behavior. If it's on single-click, it's easier to navigate the folder tree but then I end up opening files I don't want to just by trying to highlight them with a click.I dug through Konqueror's settings in both KDE3 and KDE4 but couldn't find what gave me behavior I liked in KDE3 or how to duplicate it in KDE4. In KDE3, the system setting is on double-click, but there doesn't seem to be a konqueror-specific mouse setting to customize it. Anyone else notice this? Is this hard-coded into konqueror, and it changed from 3 to 4?

Slackware :: KDE 4.3.1 Window Titlebar Repainting?

Jan 22, 2010

I've been using the vbatts KDE 4.3.1 packages with my Slackware64 13.0 installation. In general I like it, but there is a major problem with the window titlebars repainting. In Firefox it will usually show the previous page I visited instead of the current one. The text can also get mangled if I use one of the drop-down menus, particularly the bookmarks. It isn't just a Firefox thing; it happens with every app I use. It's just that many apps don't change the titlebar that much. Is this a KDE, X, or NVIDIA driver problem? A Google search seemed to indicate that it was an issue with X itself, but the info I found wasn't very clear.

Slackware :: How To Configure Touchpad

Dec 18, 2010

after several hours I've finally gotten slackware running! But the only thing I don't understand is how to configure the touchpad. In Ubuntu you can do it in the GUI, but I have no idea how to do it via Slackware.

I mostly want it to disable tap to click when I type, and enable horizontal and vertical scrolling. I've tried using synclient but that doesn't seem to work, and in any case I think that is only supposed to be a temporary fix anyway.

how to update packages I've installed? I installed wicd to use wireless for my laptop, but according to their website, it's best that I update it to the newest version because of some bug.

Slackware :: Black Window Frame In Xfce - Sometimes

May 11, 2011

When starting Xfce, there's a ~50% chance that the theme (no matter which one) doesn't work properly and all the window frames are black. Sometimes it does work, but I can't reproduce either - it's random.

I've had this problem before on 13.1 and somehow managed to make it disappear (I switched from KDE and blamed it on me not getting all the settings right immediately). However, after installing 13.37 and starting with a clean homedir, it happens more often that it did on 13.1 and I just can't get rid of it.

PS: The whole Slackware / X11 / Xfce setup is fairly generic, but I do use the binary Nvidia driver from SBo and I have two TFTs configured as separate X11 screens.
