View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a 500MB video that is 720x400. I want to half the size of the video while retaining the same relative quality. My main goal is to half the filesize of the video, but to do that and keep the same relative quality I will have to also make the resolution smaller.I can't seem to find a way to do this.I would preferer to use ffmpeg, but any solution would be good at this point. I would really like to be able to do this from the command line, but if there is a gui program that will also give me the command line it uses, that's great too.Does any one know of a way to half the file size of a video while maintaining the same relative quality?

I have a dvd-video disc (that is, one like those you buy or rent, out of the shelf) which I have played before. So I'm positively sure it plays and is in good condition. Now, I run mplayer on it, and what do I get? code...
My system (Fedora 14 2.6.35.12-88.fc14.x86_64) just freezes everytime I'm trying to play a video. when playing videos online through firefox, it works. everything is fine. when i'm trying to play a file from the disk, with Totem / VLC it just opens and freeze. I get no respond from the system but the mouse pointer. Had to restart couple times because of that.

The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.
with mplayer:
xine and kaffeine just say:

I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
I am trying to install gnome mplayer and later mplayer codecs.script run

View 1 Replies View RelatedI like this linux distribution more than the others that i have used, because is more stable for my work. But there are some little problems that I can't solve. I'm using it with a laptop HP G60 and i can run OpenOffice, Mozilla and some other programs (python, grass, qgis) that used for work at the office, but when I go home and want to watch a movie with my girl, listen some music or any other simple task, i find a lot of little problems:
1. Adjust the bright of the screen, the Power Management Guidance don't do it and I really need it.
2. Can't play movies in VLC "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format XVID. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this"
3. And today I can't play music because there is a message "KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed" this is: Output HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output)
I know maybe these problems are stupid but in windows is easier to fix them. I'm tired of search in google because i just find solved problems for Ubuntu and it takes a lot of time.
After getting my computer to reboot properly, I noticed that SUSE will only play about half a second of my wav sound files and then stops. Is there anything I need to do?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently logged into my Slackware 13.1 account and when I issued the "startx" command , there was no toolbar at the bottom and I couldn't see my mouse. I was able to click on a short-cut on my desktop , and my mouse came back. I can't open any thing except VirtualBox. When I open it , the top is cut off , so the minimize , maximize and close buttons are cut-off . I really have no idea what to do.P.S. I have XFCE instead of KDE
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just noticed a nice feature in Windows 7 - when you drag a window to the edge of the screen (the mouse pointer must touch the edge), windows offers you to resize the window to exactly half of the screen size. This is actually very handy on the wide screen monitors.
Is it possible (and how) to configure Kde 4 to do the same thing?

I'm a long time reader, first time writer. I have a question. I've been trying to do a dual boot with XP Pro SP2 and Ubuntu 9.10. When I setup everything and try to pick which OS I want to load, the GRUB freezes and won't boot/let me select anything else. I have to turn it off and then back on to only select Ubuntu or let the time run out to automatically select Ubuntu. I've got a Compaq Presario 2105 w/80gb HDD, 433.2MiB, and an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Processor.

I have trouble with my Fedora 14 on laptop, that I never had on previous Fedora versions (10-13).The SELinux not allow mplayer to play flv files and I cannot convert any files from flv to mp3.I have all codecs installed. Also Totem not works propely.I can shutdown SELinux (but dont want to) but there still remain (already installed) codec, which cant be found (decoder h.264).So its not matter if I shutdown SELinux because I still cant play flv

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.
Anyone else struggling to play iplayer video? I've got the proprietary Flash plugin, which means it's probably not this "SWF Authentication" thing that there's been so much talk about.
I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
However, clicking the play button does nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLubuntu 11.04 on laptop (PIII ATI Rage Mobility). Playing a WMV or MPEG file, system freezes when playback ends. I have not tried any other formats.
I looked at mplayer Preferences
In the Player tab, "Video Output" was blank - I set it to "x11"
This corrected the freeze problem, at least the first time that I tried it. However, it did not seem to persist through multiple plays of the MPEG file, whether or not accompanied by an mplayer quit and rerun or a reboot, even though I did not change the parameters. I tried setting vo=x11 in the etc/mplayer/config file, but that did not help. It is sporadic. It will work a few times with the MPEG file, then hang, for no apparent reason. One thing it does seem to do consistently is hang on the WMV file, regardless of the vo setting, and on both files, when vo is not specified (what I started with). This is a time-consuming task, with a reboot on every failure, and I have run out of ideas on what to try next. When it hangs on the MPEG file I noticed that the elapsed time ends up at 20 sec, even though the video total time is 16 sec. When it doesn't hang, the elpased time goes to 20 sec, then returns to 16 sec.
