I have asked for a video capturing software before but recommend a GOOD screen recorder where you can select the window/window size the axis and also a good editing software which will render/export into FULL 720p HD
if there was an easy way to get a transparent terminal window. I am running Fedora Core 11 in Gnome desktop. I am sort of a newby and i am really getting into Linux but i want to know some of the cool features too.
I would like to display a fully opaque image (e.g. PNG RGB8) on the desktop in an image viewer - but such that I can set the window (showing the image) to be, say, 50% transparent (so I could see through and compare with other windows below). It would be even better if the viewer just shows a "panel" instead of a "window" (i.e. I'd prefer just the image shown, possibly with a border - instead of a full blown window with menubar, titlebar etc).
I'm aware that in Compiz, it should be possible to run a plugin, and have any window you want transparent - but I was hoping for a solution (viewer) that would not be Compiz-specific (and even more preferred, if it is neither Gnome nor KDE specific - but I'm not sure that is possible).
I'm a long time reader, first time writer. I have a question. I've been trying to do a dual boot with XP Pro SP2 and Ubuntu 9.10. When I setup everything and try to pick which OS I want to load, the GRUB freezes and won't boot/let me select anything else. I have to turn it off and then back on to only select Ubuntu or let the time run out to automatically select Ubuntu. I've got a Compaq Presario 2105 w/80gb HDD, 433.2MiB, and an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Processor.
Still cannot watch a flash video in full screen for more than 1 minute before it freezes/hangs. Ridiculous that this bug has been around for YEARS and no one took the time to fix it for new versions.
The intent is to use Mplayer without X or any other window manager/GUI to watch movies on TV. A simple 'mplayer movie.avi' command works fine, except that it locks out the keyboard and mouse. We're using the latest mplayer and slack 13.0 with the 2.6.29.6 kernel. Using mplayer under X presents no problems, but the use of anything but the console is NOT possible now. The whole problem is figuring out what to do to regain control of the keyboard.
On my system (Ubuntu 9.x -> 10.x) I have always had the problem of not being able to select the edges of a window in order to change the window size. It seems that the 'hot' zone, which defines the window border selection area, is only 1 pixel wide. I find it very difficult to position the mouse pointer over this zone. Even if I am successful (which usually takes more than 20 tries), as soon as I begin to depress the mouse button, the merest movement causes the pointer to move off the 'hot' zone - and selection fails. The only work-around I have found is to select a corner point of a window -which seems much less sensitive - and then drag the window border in either a vertical or horizontal direction, rather than diagonally. But this is counter-intuitive and unsatisfactory.
I recently installed Linux Mint 8 (main) on my P.C.. When I select the main menu and activate the Terminal, all that comes up is a blank white window--The same thing happens when I try to run Software Manager or Synaptic. Could you please instruct me how to fix this problem.
When in Home Folder or working Inkscape, the window I'm working in goes grey and the programs freeze.Only that program or folder or if I have two folders open then when the home folder freezes so will the other folders, but not programs.
I'm using: ubuntu 10.04 64 bit proprietary fglrx drivers for ati 4890.
When shaking the mouse to bring up the computer, the screensaver will freeze and not display the dialog box to log back into my profile. However, even though I can't see it, if I blindly and correctly type in my password it will work.
[update] I posted this question while at work where I do not use Ubuntu...sadly. Anyway, when I got home, I locked the screen, the gl fish screensaver came up. bam, no login dialog box. ok, tried the gl matrix screensaver, bam, no dialog box. Finally, I tried a non-gl screensaver, and what do you know, there's my login dialog box. Something is up with the gl screensavers.
Just to reiterate, when I activate the mouse or keyboard during a gl screensaver I do not see the login dialog box.
I installed my DVB-T board and I can watch TV using VLC and my channels.conf file. I saved a copy of channels.conf as ~/.gstreamer-0.10/dvb-channels.conf but when I start Totem (GStreamer ed.), I don't see a "Watch TV" option under the "Movie" menu.
Rather than adding each music/video file one by one in XBMC is there a way to just add a folder to watch and as you add music under it, it automatically shows up in XMBC? If not, is there any application that allows something like that? I'm looking for one central application to use for all media playback - dvds, music, videos, pictures... XBMC seemed like the right choice, but I'll be adding moves and music for a year if I had to do each of them 1 by 1.
I've got an eeepc 1101ha and have installed the latest ubuntu, 10.10, but i can't watch any videos! Besides the original player, i have installed and tried to watch videos in VLC, SMPlayer and GNOME MPlayer but it has always some kind of error. In VLC I can hear the sound. On all others the file simply doesn't work.
i'm currently running ubuntu server 10.04, I would like to stream tv from the server to web address or maybe other tv front end. Is there any software for this
DVD rentals are a lottery for me. I often have the problem of renting DVD's that end up being scratched. I'm sure this is a common experience: during playback there will be a section of the DVD that is unplayable because it skips or stutters.
I always clean the DVD surface but it often doesn't help when the scratches are bad. So I wonder whether there are any hardware tweaks in Ubuntu to help the DVD drive try harder?
I found this post "Guide to dvd copy and watch even when scratched" which seems useful but it requires ripping the DVD.
How do I properly setup my ATI 5770 just to watch movies on my connected TV and surf on PC on Internet simultaneously? I don't have current problem in Win7. But Ubuntu 10.04 is just to confusing for me, so I require step-by-step guide.
After I tried to do it myself I got confused, when I setup TV and PC as a multi-desktop on my PC there was no Internet connection meanwhile I had it on my TV's desktop Internet available. I need to use my TV somekind like a an extended desktop, but when I try to do an extended desktop my two panels on PC's desktop simply vanish.
whenever i go onto 4od website i cant watch anything. No 'play' buttons appear anywhere. I have the flash plugin as far as im aware, but i can watch ITV i player and BBC i player.
I want to capture the video from my sat box using an extra laptop I have and then distribute a live feed on my network so that I can watch tv on my laptop around the house. I want to use an old Dell X300 with a broken screen. It's not too powerful with a 1.2GHz Pentium M and 640MB ram. I was thinking of throwing Zubuntu or something lighter weight on it. I'll use a usb capture card that will support S-video. I am sure there are plenty of those that will be compatible with Linux. What I need to know is what capture software should I use?
Is there any capture software that will transmit over a network as a live feed? Is my laptop even powerful enough to do what I'm asking? This thing had no problem playing back 480p but capturing, encoding, and distributing over a network is another story. Are there any usb capture cards that use hardware encoding? Would installing a lighter weight distro be necessary in order to gt laptop performance boost it needs to handle what I want to do? And what of software to receive the stream? VLC should have no trouble connecting to the stream right? How about SMPlayer?
Is it a way to Watch Movies From Torrent?I saw a program for windows, a video player who can to play video from torents, who didn't downloaded yet? Is it a linux program with who i can Watch Movies From Torrent too?Is it a way to do that with VLC ot Totem?
