I have a dvd-video disc (that is, one like those you buy or rent, out of the shelf) which I have played before. So I'm positively sure it plays and is in good condition. Now, I run mplayer on it, and what do I get? code...
I tried to play FLV movie files with Totem Mplayer but it gets error internal stream error. How can I play this kind of files in ubuntu 8.04
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to 64-bit Karmic, I can't play any WMA files, neither in Rhythmox, Totem, VLC, or mplayer. It used to work well with 64-bit Intrepid.
I've added the medibuntu repos and installed ubuntu-restricted-extras (including w64codecs). Still, when rhythmbox or totem opens a WMA file, they search for an appropriate codec and don't find anything.
How can I get mplayer to play files over the network? It seems like I am not the only one that wants this feature. Does anyone got a work around for this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to run a short mplayer ascii video clip after the boot messages?I've got some video of a shark that I can play with the mplayer ascii feature (mplayer -vo aa -monitorpixelaspect 0.5 file.avi)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am on Squeeze. In the past I have successfully extracted audio from video files. Recently when I try it I get an unplayable file, just some brief noise nothing more. Mplayer on the other hand plays every video and audio file out there. Is there something wrong with mplayer? I installed mplayer from the repo. I haven't compile mplayer since before Lenny.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to play a video file on Ubuntu 10.10 from a web site, but when I click on it it just shows it loading, but won't play.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently converted and I'm running both Ubuntu 11.04 (the Natty Narwhal?) (about 10 gig partitioned) and Windows Vista.
As said in the title, All DVD's and Video files won't play well: DVD's are pixelated most times, jumpy and sometimes the sound is scratchy - sound usually sorts itself out in a minute or so, but not always and similarly with any video files, like MP4s and other ripped files. I usually use VLC but others also don't work well or not at all. When playing MP4's do work it usually freezes the rest of the computer and I have to force switch off by the main switch as nothing works.
I've tried out tips like the following from users with previous problems on Ubuntu forums but still nothing seems to work:
I've installed libdvdcss2 and the latest vlc. I've uninstalled all my players and reinstalled them.
I don't believe it's a restricted format problem as the DVD drive works fine in vista as does all the video files.
I wondered if perhaps my system specs aren't good enough for Ubuntu: intel(r) celeron(r) d cpu 220@1.2ghz 1.5ghz 2 gigs ram 32 bit operating system
I drew this while on vista - when I tried to check my system specs using these commands on Ubuntu the "commands were not found": sudo ishw -html > mySpecs.html and sudo 1shw
When i open media files as mp3 and video files avi, the player could not find the required plugins. It keeps on searching but at last no plugins are downloaded?

I like this linux distribution more than the others that i have used, because is more stable for my work. But there are some little problems that I can't solve. I'm using it with a laptop HP G60 and i can run OpenOffice, Mozilla and some other programs (python, grass, qgis) that used for work at the office, but when I go home and want to watch a movie with my girl, listen some music or any other simple task, i find a lot of little problems:
1. Adjust the bright of the screen, the Power Management Guidance don't do it and I really need it.
2. Can't play movies in VLC "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format XVID. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this"
3. And today I can't play music because there is a message "KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed" this is: Output HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output)
I know maybe these problems are stupid but in windows is easier to fix them. I'm tired of search in google because i just find solved problems for Ubuntu and it takes a lot of time.
I have been using my HTPC OpenSuse 11.2 for for some months now and everything is great, I'm very happy that I made the switch to Linux. Today for some reason none of my avi files are able to play. When I try a DVD there is also no play back of the video. Sound is working but video is not there. I have tried Kaffeine, VLC, SM Player. All no luck.
Here is the output after checking with Red Dwarf's troubleshoot thread:
Code:
Whenever I go into the folders they're stored in and try to open them. They close so fast, in fact, that it's only after switching over to Konqueror that I found the files simply will not open. VLC/Kaffeine appears to load for a few seconds and then closes again without any indication of a bug or problem - it just doesn't work.
Been trying to sort this out for the last two days now, but I'm a complete simpleton with computers/linux and don't know anything about using the terminal, etc. (I can't even install stuff without using webpins) but now I'm stuck and searching around for people with similar problems really hasn't turned up anything that is familiar or understandable.
I'm using latest version of ubuntu 10.04.
Sometimes when i play a media file i get this error :
Code:
"An error occurred : Failed to connect stream: Too large"
I have all the codecs installed.None of the player totem, vlc plays them.
Is there a way to play read audio/video files (.rmvb .rm etc) using the VLC Player without installing realplayer?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled slackware on my computer so that I could have the 64 bit version and take advantage of all the ram in this machine. Anyway I did a brand new install Slackware64 13.1 from the dvd. I omitted the KDE packages and instead installed Gnome via the GSB project. After all that installed with seemingly no problem I opened up Rhythmbox and imported all my music, but it won't play any of my m4a files. A little research showed that installing gst-plugins-bad would solve this. So I downloaded it and built it from source, no problems in the configuring it or making it. But the problem persists. Here's a list from slapt-get search for gst showing the gstreamer packages that are installed...
gst-ffmpeg-0.10.10-x86_64-2gsb [inst=yes]: gst-ffmpeg (GStreamer "ffmpeg" Plugins)
gst-plugins-bad-0.10.19-x86_64-1_SBo [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-bad (a set GStreamer plugins)
gst-plugins-base-0.10.29-x86_64-1 [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-base (base set of GStreamer plugins)
gst-plugins-good-0.10.22-x86_64-1 [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-good (good set of GStreamer plugins)
gst-python-0.10.18-x86_64-1gsb [inst=yes]: gst-python (GStreamer Bindings for Python)
gstreamer-0.10.29-x86_64-1 [inst=yes]: GStreamer (streaming multimedia framework)
Has anyone gotten Songbird to play m4a files in Slackware? Is so, 'fess up! Songbird forums say this is possible in Linux with the right codec yet most in the forums, including me, fail. (There's also a plugin that doesn't work in linux.) All my other players handle m4a fine in Slackware 13, so I know I've got the proper codec.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI run Ubuntu 9.04 on with proprietary NVidia driver 180.44.When I change anything in the nvidia-settings, e.g. screen resolution, brightness, second screen etc, everything works fine - except for the fact that I can't play any video files in any player. Sound is there, players don't display any error messages, but the image is black. Flash video within browsers is fine, though.Things go back to normal with the new settings kept after restarting X. However, having to restart X and lose my desktop set up every time when I just want to connect my laptop to my office screen is highly inconvenient. Is this a bug or expected behaviour that I have to live with?
