Slackware :: No Way To Enter Extra Boot Options

Mar 11, 2011

I used btrfs, but my Slackware root is really a subvolume named system and not the root of btrfs. I do a similar setup of having the OS's root in it's own filesystem on FreeBSD+ZFS.Anyways, my problem lies in mkinitrd. There's no way to enter extra boot options, as I require subvol=system to be added to mount -o ro -t $ROOTFS $ROOTDEV /mnt.in the init script of /boot/initrd.gz. I don't reboot often and it's easy to manually remount /mnt with the correct options, however, is there another way of passing boot options to mkinitrd?

I see Patrick is the author of mkinitrd, so maybe this kind of option could, or maybe should, be added? I'm sure most people wouldn't make a subvolume for the OS's root, but I've been use to it with ZFS and prefer it for some reason.

Slackware :: Add A Second Physical Drive With Windows 7 On It To The Boot Options In Lilo?

Mar 14, 2011

I'm familiar with editing Grub's "menu.lst" file to add additional OS's to the boot list. Does Slackwares Lilo have a similar config file ? I need to add a second physical drive with Windows 7 on it to the boot options in Lilo. If it's not a config file, how do I add a second os to it ? Slack and Windows are both already installed on two different physical drives so I won't be installing, I just need to add the Windows drive to Lilo.

Can anybody tell me how to compile Kid3 without the TunePimp, Musicbrainz, and MP4 cruft? I don't feel like descending into dependency hell for the sake of stuff I'll never use. In KDE3 I could just execute ./configure with a bunch of --without statements. With KDE4 it just says to run cmake . and then make. For the life of me I can't figure out the way to handle this.

OpenSUSE :: What Exactly Is The Extra Repository /repositories/KDE:/Extra

Jul 18, 2010

there are 2 related to 11.3: openSUSE_11.3/ and openSUSE_11.3_KDE_Distro_Factory/ Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra they are not listed as official kde4 repos here KDE repositories - openSUSE, but they are in the same directory structure on the build service so it would assume they are official (what ever official means) They have rpm's I didn't see in community and playground (at least for 11.3) such as audex and clementine I would guess that they are for the stable and factory versions of KDE4 but then shouldn't there be a 3rd for unstable if this was the case? Or do they refer to the distro, 11.3 stable and 11.3 factory

Ubuntu :: Making Extra Boot Log References?

Feb 3, 2011

I have 10.10 64-bit on a Fujitsu T900. the hard drive has windows seven as well (64-bit). The win7 is the orginal from the manufacture. the boot log originally had (in this order): Win7, Windows Vista (about 100 MB not sure why but can't remove), recovery partition. I put ubuntu on after those three. Some times when the computer goes into suspend mode from ubuntu it will not wake up after wards. the only option it to power i down manually. when it comes back up there is now a second reference to ubuntu in the boot log. this has happened several times. there are now four valid references to ubuntu in the boot loader. I need to remove three of them, but i'm concerned that removing them will compromise ubuntu. Also I'm not sure where the boo log in windows seven is.

Slackware :: Options Dropped In Sendmail 8.14.4?

Apr 25, 2011

I recently tried to upgrade my Slackware server's sendmail software from 8.14.3 to 8.14.4 and ran into a problem. In a nutshell all outbound non local mail is routed through a smart host requiring authentication. As a result I use a modified version of the "sendmail-slackware-tls-sasl-clamav.mc" to build the sendmail.cf. However, when I tried to run sendmail 8.14.4 with my newly created sendmail.cf I was greeted with the following.

Warning: Option: AuthMechanisms requires SASL support (-DSASL)
Warning: Option: AuthOptions requires SASL support (-DSASL)
Warning: Option: CACertPath requires TLS support
Warning: Option: CACertFile requires TLS support

[Code]....

Apparently SSLv2 is now considered weak and the directive is a good idea, but at present this directive is not supported by the sendmail in this package.

Ubuntu :: Multiple Boot Options In Grub Boot Menu?

Apr 3, 2010

I'm a noob but enjoying dual booting. However, every time I run update manager I get a new vmlinuz entry and now I have multiple boot options in my grub boot menu. Now when I have like 5 ubuntu entries to move past to select Windows. and the latest Ubuntu is always at the bottom so I have to annoyingly scroll down to select the latest there. I don't really understand what the vmlinuzXXX entries in the boot folder are for so I don't want to delete them. I've thought about editing the loop in the 10_linux file in the grub.d folder but it looks like its calling a function or macro or something:

Code:
linux='version_find_latest $list'

But like I said, I'm a noob to all this (a .Net developer on Windows professionally) and don't understand where this is. It looks like this function call has the logic I need to fix. Because its not finding the latest, its just finding all. How to I get back to one Ubunutu boot option like when I first installed?

Ubuntu :: Enter 3G PIN At Every Boot?

After install I have to enter the PIN to my 3G modem at every login or wakeup from hibernation/sleep. I have to enter this even if i have disabled the 3G radio in NetworkManager

In NetworkManager i have entered the correct information for my 3G supplier as well as the PIN for my 3G access. I have not marked automatic start to my 3G connection in NetworkManager I rarely use the 3G as i'm normally connected through WiFi so it is a bit annoying. When i had lucid installed on the same pc i didn't have this problem. How do i turn this PIN entering behavior off?

Slackware :: Options For Enlarging Root File System?

Feb 16, 2010

I need to enlarge the root file system on a Slackware 13.0 32-bit system; it's in a simple logical partition (/dev/sda6) -- no LVM, mirroring etc. This might be a good opportunity to change from ext4 to jfs, too.Routine procedure, no? No!First off I booted Knoppix 5.31 but found it doesn't have ext4 support (no efs2ck and running fsck results in "fsck.ext4: not found").So I booted Slackware 13.0 32-bit CD-1 only to get the same as with Knoppix.I do have a GParted-liveCD 0.3.4-11 but have had mixed experiences with it so am reluctant, despite having backups.

Slackware :: Xfce4-power-manager-1.0.1 And No Battery Options

Oct 17, 2010

I noticed that there is a 1.0.1 version of xfce4-power-manager, so I tried it out last night. Note: It requires libxfce4ui >= 4.7. I compiled it using the same SlackBuild script as the one in Slackware 13.1. It compiled and installed just fine. However, when I logged out of XFCE and logged back in, I could only set a few options, and battery options were completely non-existant.

I double-checked, and my user account in in the power group. Has anyone else had a similar problem? In the meantime, I've downgraded back to the 0.8.5 version that Slackware ships with.
