Im trying to get my extra media drives to auto mount at boot, having problems with it. Does this line look right?
/dev/sdb /media auto auto,user,noexec,rw,sync 0 2
The one thing I'm not sure about is the mount point, am I just putting '/media' or am I putting '/media/MKV' or whatever the name of the drive may be?
How can I auto mount all my drive at start up, I want them to be auto mounted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to unsuccessfully auto-mount my drives when starting up. I've made a script that sets me to the root using "sudo -s" and then mounts the drives. The commands to mount the drives work properly when entered into the command line, but when I try running them from an executable, they don't work. What might I be missing?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu 11.04 (gnome) and have a ntfs partiton that shows up in the "places" menu that is normally in the gnome panel. But I think that partition isn't mounted till I click on the entry in this menu (when I want to access it from any other place, shortcuts for example, that doesn't work).
How can I correctly mount all partitions I want on startup?

I have a dual boot setup with a fair amount of files in my windows volume. I noticed that the Ubuntu 10.4 GNOME version (at least) does not auto mount my NTFS drive. Of course as I have seen from various post this gets annoying when opening up a program that loads previous files before I for ex, click the '110GB FileSystem' icon from Nautilus or similar...that seems to mount it for me then... I want my 110GB NTFS volume to mount automatically so I dont have to do this process everytime I reboot.
I found a post on the forum (the latest one I could find) below that recommends installing ntfs-config. The post is from May 2008 but mentions 10.10 (via edits) so I'm confused and wondering if there is an easier/default way..or this is still the way to go? After several screw ups editing system files manually, Im very cautious about doing it in this case because its a work computer and frankly the uninsttall or editing the fstab manually worries me.
I was using 11.3, everything worked fine Upgraded to 11.4, now no drives will automount. As a result applications like Nero and K3B cannot find my DVD drive. I can access the drives from an application like VLC where I can enter the device path /dev/dvd
Dmesg and tail -f /var/log/messages output the following error:

I suspect there is a bug or incompatablitiy with HAL/dbus/udisks but I cannot track it down.
I'm currently setting up a laptop for my grandparents to use. They have never used a computer before, so I'm trying to make this as fool-proof as possible. The system will be setup with Ubuntu 10.10. In order to save them the hassle of having to unmount USB drives before disconnecting them, I would like to have all USB drives auto-mounted as read-only (possible use cases for now only include them getting data from people, not them copying anything to the drive). I have so far found that gnome-volume-manager is responsible for the handy auto-mount, but I didn't find any way to set options, like always mounting drives read-only.

Those disks are for the core-system and some file server related stuff.Beside the server i got two external LaCie boxes that contains 4x1tb disks each. The disks inside the boxes are RAID5, so the system sees every box as one whole "disk".Now to the problem. I just can�t get those "two" RAID cofigurations two be auto mounted at boot. I have tried to put them in /etc/fstab with a whole bunch of different options but nothing works. The system sees them but don't auto mount them, and i can manually mount them without any problem at all. I have tried to "google" the problem but can't find any similar

Whole process has gone very smoothly, but left with a small problem (i.e. it isn't actually affecting usability) that I don't seem to be able to fix and can't find on forums/internet. I also have a problem with the Floppy drive, but I've seen that problem elsewhere in the forums.
It's a dual boot system with both NTFS and Ext4 drives. All are visible and fully accessible. I decided to convert one of the NTFS drive to Ext4. That appeared to be successful and was successfully remounted as an Ext4 drive. The drive label is "Data". I did have a bit of a problem getting it remounted so that I could see/use it under my log-in as opposed to just under root. It's at this point I think that I did something to create the problem.
I now have two entries for "Data" in drop down menu for Places. The true one is shown as a standard hard drive icon, but the false one is shown as a different icon - possibly an external drive icon (note that the floppy drive is also showing as the same icon and I can't access that, but I've seen that's a problem elsewhere in the forums).
I can write and read to the true "Data" hard drive. If I click on the other false "Data" icon, I get the message "mount: /dev/sdd1 already mounted or /media/Data busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdd1 is already mounted on /media/Data". If unmount the true drive and try to mount the false drive, the system mounts the true drive instead. If I log into nautilus as root, neither the false data drive or the floppy appear in the left hand panel.
i am using fedora 14. Each time i login i have to manually mount my windows drives. Is there any script or system setting which will help me to auto mount my windows drive on startup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I plug in a USB flash drive, it is mounted to /dev/usb0 instead of /dev/drivename. This poses a problem for me because I have applications that depend on files I keep on flash drives, and having to frequently change the file paths is difficult. I haven't been able to find anything on this topic with a cursory search on Google or through the Debian reference. Heck, I don't even know what /dev/usb0 is (though I would like to learn, in the interest of being less of a noob). This is happening on a Squeeze system running Gnome, so I believe nautilus is what's responsible for auto-mounting my flash drives.
Beyond that, I don't know what other information I should provide; if you need to know something else, ask me (and perhaps tell me how to access that information). Someone on IRC suggested that I didn't have my drives set to mount in /dev/, but I have no idea how I would go about fixing that. If there's a configuration file that deals with this sort of thing, chances are I haven't touched it since installing this system. Debian installer sees usb drive as cd drive, so it adds it in fstab, but with wrong file system options (udf,iso9660) which is not the one your flash drive uses.
I have two optical drives (not SATA) that previously showed up as /dev/hda and /dev/hdb. No longer. I see no mention of them in fstab and catting all the /dev/dvd /dev/cd... /dev/sr.. turns up nothing. If I place a disk with info in the drive nothing appears anywhere I can see (not in dmesg).
K3b tells me no devices found. wodim tells me Detected CD-R drive: /dev/sr1 wodim: Cannot do inquiry for CD/DVD-Recorder. Errno: 5 (Input/output error), test unit ready scsi sendcmd: fatal error CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00 cmd finished after 0.000s timeout 40s (These are not SATA drives.) I noticed rebooting will show drives if there is media in there. However, that disappears after a while as well. Then inserting and reinserting cdroms gives no messages in dmesg.
I have a full working Mythbuntu 11.04 on a FakeRAID system (via ICH10R chipset). The OS is sitting on a 250GB partition and working fine. I am trying to get the 7.07TB partition mounted so that I can use it to store all my movies. When I mount it via the [URL] all works fine. When I reboot it cannot mount due to device being not ready or unavailable It appears the superblock goes missing at reboot. I have it formatted to ext4 with a GPT partition table. If I reformat and remount then all works fine again until I reboot.

I'm having a problem auto-mounting a new luks partition. I have crypttab and fstab entries. I already have my primary encrypted partition (root) mounting at boot (from the install), but after creating this one manually, it does not open on boot. It auto-mounts when I run the following command manually after boot: sudo luksOpen /dev/disk/by-uuid/<uuid> mycrypt

I recently had issues with the latest version of the Linux Kernels and I got that fixed but ever since that has happened none of my Drives will mount and they aren't even recognized.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used the ntfs-config utility to mount my windows drives automatically at startup. While doing so, I had my USB-HDD still attached, and after making changes and rebooting, it did something unknown I didn't expect and I cannot mount my USB-HDD again, and it gives me the following error message:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/MyUSBDrive
I did manage to open it somehow, but then all the data was erased apart from ~3 GiB [edit: it's got some kind of extra drive built-in which is mounted as a CD-ROM drive, and when I open that one first all the files are missing in the actual drive, otherwise I get the message above]. I don't know what information I should include here, but my fstab looks like this:

What should I do to recover my files and fix the mount error? [edit: at the very least, how do I backup my files onto my internal HDD so I can format it and recover it in this manner]
When I get my partitions listed in the terminal or in GParted they go up sequentially to sda7 as they should. The media folder in my file system shows the other dual boot OS and a data disk partition, both mounted, which is correct. All good. But there is a third strange folder titled sda8 however I have no such partition. /etc/fstab shows no sda8 either. When I open /media/sda8, it shows no files, says its empty and lists an empty available space that equals the empty space on the Linux OS partition in which the folder sits. But no pie chart shown, and it belongs to root. I changed the permission and found I can save files to it.

I have servers installed with RHEL 4 2.6.9-89.0.9 ELsmp. I tried using uuid and label in /etc/fstab to automount usb drives to mountpoints that I specify after reboot. Unfortunately, it just does not work in all my RHEL4 servers. After every reboot, /etc/fstab will be automatically modified and all configurations related to my USB drives will be changed. Irregardless of whether i use UUID or LABEL in my /etc/fstab.However, it works on RHEL5. But, upgrading is not an option in my environment. I have been googling around looking for alternatives but everything seems to point back to using UUID or LABEL in /etc/fstab. Anyone has tried something that works? Please help me, thank you.

- After a hardrive crash which took out my opensuse 11.2, I installed three new harddrives instead of the old ones. I have installed xp. To see of I could triple boot, i thereafter put in linux mint. I did not like that and installed opensuse 11.3 - to ensure it would place itself on the two second harddrives (formatted in ntfs and with some data on) i before installation took those cables off.. And now alas.. there are no mount points.
So I tried yast, and found the partitioner, chose edit tried to put mount points .. however.. nothing seemed to have happened...
Ive been noticing lately that in my media folder, where I am able to see all the drives I have connected, it seems that each one is duplicated. For example, if I have a drive called "WD" theres another called "WD_", or "Lacie" and "Lacie_". And when I click on the ones with the "_", it says I don't not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of 'lacie'. But when I click the ones without the underscore, I get in. But heres the funny part, when using jdownloader, and i choose the folder where to save the files, I have to select the drive that has the underscore in it. Heres some pics and if you look at my info screenlet to the left, you will see that it shows the drives with the undercore.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded Xubuntu from 10.04 LTS to 11.04 and I am no longer able to mount removable media from the "places" menu. The message I get:
"Failed to execute child process exo-mount (No such file or directory)"
I assume some wrapper process is attempting to execute a program called "exo-mount," but no such program exists anywhere in the repositories, according to a search with apt-file. The "exo-utils" package used to contain exo-mount, but the program no longer exists in that package.
Mounting from within Thunar works fine.
I've used it once before but got fed up with the boot asking me everytime I turned my laptop on because I wasn't using it enough. I have Windows 7 on drive C . I want to keep it on drive C. I have several 1.5TB+ drives, and one of them is not being used. I want to dedicate it to Ubuntu, and be able to do a dual boot with my Windows 7 install. Is this possible? If it is, what about when this drive is not connected to my laptop? Will that mess up the boot process?

Each time I login, I try to access my various storage drives and gnome makes me authenticate asroot before mounting it. FSTAB lists only logical volumes but not my storage drives. What can I do to make sure these automount when I login?
