I am trying to configure a wireless connection from YAST under the Network Settings tool.It doesn't seem to do anything. My USB wifi device is detected in YAST > Hardware and I am using the module it says Hardware is using. It doesn't seem to save the module under YAST> Network Settings> Network Card Setup. Is this tool broken or useless? It seems setting up WiFi should be easier than this. YAST should work shouldn't it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI did fresh install of Slackware64 ver. 13.0 and immediately updated it to slackware-current by following the directions here: http://slackwiki.org/Upgrading_SlackwareSo far all is normal and functional except for xorg-server.When I did Xorg -configure under ver.13.0, it worked perfectly and detected my nvidia 8800 GTS vidcard and 1440 x 900 lcd monitor.However, after upgrading to "current" and xorg-server-1.9.4, I'm getting a segmentation fault and cannot configure a working xorg.conf.I've been searching xorg seg errors, but haven't found a solution yet.My /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

I've beenhaving some trouble getting my wireless network card working on my Slackware 12 box. Currently it identifies the card and can scan for networks, but I can't seem to join a network. Here's some output:

It doesn't seem to be accepting the essid setting, and it's giving an error for the key setting. Also, I'm noticing an inconsistency in the wireless protocols. The AP claims that it's 802.11g with rates up to 54 Mb/s. But it should be 802.11n. It's an Apple Airport Extreme and the Radio Mode is set to Automatic and displays "802.11a/n-02.11b/g/n" on the Airport Utility. The interface also claims that it's 802.11g, though shows a rate of 300 Mb/s. It's a Belkin "Play" Wireless USB Adapter (F7D4101).
(Note: I'm using ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers which were installed from the Belkin software.)
I still cannot access to internet. May I know why?
Is it due to the Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A)
The step i did:
1) iwlist eth1 scanning
2) sudo iwconfig eth1 essid shabana key s:xxxxxx
3) invoke firefox ... cannot surf
Do I need to set dhclient? how should I set? DO I need to enable wpa_supplicant?

When I type the command iwconfig, it shows eth1 being me wireless device. When I try and edit it, nothing changes! I don't know what I need to change other than the ESSID and the WEP key. I installed 10.3 (after buying it a couple of years ago and letting sit on the shelf) and can't get it to configure my ethernet connection or my wireless card. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.

Need help getting my wireless network to work on my newly installed Oracle Linux on Dell laptop.
Not sure what wireless card is installed, or it's mac address (though I can boot into windows and get that info, I don't want to - it'll be kind of a let down if I can't fix it all thru Linux).
Install has detected a Broadcom wired card, but not the wireless. Funny thing is that it detected the Bluetooth.
There's no NetworkManager, where should i detect the possible connection and connect it.

Ok, so I've been researching this like all day because I can't figure out how to get my wireless working on Slackware (and that's the only way I can get internet on my laptop here). So, when I run uname -a it tells me I am running kernel 2.6.29.6 According to http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi since I have a Intel� PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection adapter the iwlwifi driver included with Slackware and the released drivers will not work.
So, I "need to use the compat-wireless project that retrieves the latest driver development code from the upstream repository." Problem #1 - I can't access the repository from Slackware without my wireless. Problem #2 - I have no idea how to get the files I need / configure my system to use them from my other OS (I am triple-booting Windows 7, Linux Mint, and Slackware). So, I THINK once I get the driver installed for my wireless it should be easy enough. I've already become pretty familiar with rc.inet1.conf from trying to get it to work so far, so if all I need to do after this is mess with that then I should be fine.explain if/how I can get the right driver set up in Slackware? I can access my Slackware partition from my other distro no problem.

I have never connected to a wpa network using slackware before, so I am not entirely sure how to use wpa_supplicant. I have altered the conf file, then tried dhcpcd and it times out.
I'm running Slack 12 on a Thinkpad T60 and my wireless has stopped connecting to my wireless network at home. I'm using wicd for network management and it was working up until yesterday. I don't know what to do to track down the problem, so I'm looking for advice to do so.Other wireless devices in the house can still connect, so I don't believe my router is the problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Linksys WRT54G router with the latest firmware. I've got an HP laptop connecting wirelessly and my main box connecting wirelessly with a Linksys WMP54G card. (As an aside, I used to have another box too with the same wireless card). Both are set up with a static IP. Both can access the Internet just fine. The router is on the main floor. My main box is in the basement. Both boxes are running fully patched versions of Slackware64 13.1. sshd is running on both.
I like to ssh into the other box when there's a security update or to copy a file from one computer to the other, etc. The problem is that I can't do that all the time. Even if the laptop is connected to the network and accessing the Internet, on my main box ssh will still "say ssh: connect to host ***** port 22: No route to host". It is my understanding that if I ssh in, it is accessing the other computer directly and not going through the router. What would cause this? Even if I bring the laptop within four feet of my computer, it still can't connect.
There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when it will connect and when it wont. Sometimes I can access it just fine then about five minutes later I can't.
I recently swapped from ubuntu to slackware. It's all functioning, minus the wireless network. Decided to forgo my usual fluxbox desktop for the features in KDE until I get ready to swap back (not sure what programs I'll have to add to startup in flux yet). I'm using a toshiba satellite L305-S5957 with a Realtek 802.11b/g wireless-LAN adapter. Not sure if it's a hardware problem or if I just don't know how to connect with kde.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed the new Slackware 13.1 64 on my laptop and I am trying to connect to the internet via a wireless network but i don't what is wrong with my configurations it just doesn't work.
I tried doing the following:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "ESSID"
iwconfig wlan0 key "Password"
iwconfig wlan0 channel NUMBER
Then i do dhcpcd -d but then no success after - i try to ping some sites, no reply, i put new dns servers in resolv.conf, still no results, i tried to ping some ips and it says network unreachable, it just doesn't work at all.
I did iwlist wlan0 scanning and it found all the wireless networks, so the adapter is not the problem, the problem here is the procedure. How to do it properly so it will work ? I can connect via ethernet by easy configuring eth0 but i have no success for wireless networks. I read everything there was on google, i searched a lot of sites, i tried a lot of different methods but NONE of it worked.
After doing a reconfigure of my wrt54gl router, trying to activate WEP encryption, and then finding WICD wouldn't connect, and returning to the original config on the router, now wicd won't reconnect the wireless card. Here's the wicd.log entry from the attempt to connect:

Hi I have istalled a D-Link wireless adaptor - with the help of this forum.
It is up and running - the light flashes and lsusb identifies it correctly, so does iwconfig.
I can, however, not connect to the network, and I noticed the following errors on boot up.

I have on two occassions seen sugstions to use wicd, but how do I use that?

So is there anything wrong with that "Encryption key: off" statement? I suspect that encryption key only applies to WEP, but not to WPA2 encryption, but I am not sure. So my question is, can I ignore that statement and assume that my encryption is fine?
Besides, where does knemo read the information about encryption from? As I mentioned, knemo detects that the encryption is active. Are there any other commands to make sure that my encryption is safe and well?
I have a Dell studio 1558 laptop, which I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit on it with wubi (It runs windows 7 usually). All seems to be fine, apart from the wireless networking doesn't appear to work. I click on the wireless network icon in the top bar, and it says "wireless: disconnected" and "wierless networks:disconnected".

So i tried the pin code on the wireless router and that didnt work so am i doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the hardware? i got the wired connection to work but cant get wireless its a little more complex.
