May 11, 2011I am having trouble getting my wireless card to connect to my network. I believe I have done everything correctly. Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf file:

I have never connected to a wpa network using slackware before, so I am not entirely sure how to use wpa_supplicant. I have altered the conf file, then tried dhcpcd and it times out.

Slackware :: Failing To SSH Between Boxes On Same Wireless Network
Feb 7, 2011I've got a Linksys WRT54G router with the latest firmware. I've got an HP laptop connecting wirelessly and my main box connecting wirelessly with a Linksys WMP54G card. (As an aside, I used to have another box too with the same wireless card). Both are set up with a static IP. Both can access the Internet just fine. The router is on the main floor. My main box is in the basement. Both boxes are running fully patched versions of Slackware64 13.1. sshd is running on both.
I like to ssh into the other box when there's a security update or to copy a file from one computer to the other, etc. The problem is that I can't do that all the time. Even if the laptop is connected to the network and accessing the Internet, on my main box ssh will still "say ssh: connect to host ***** port 22: No route to host". It is my understanding that if I ssh in, it is accessing the other computer directly and not going through the router. What would cause this? Even if I bring the laptop within four feet of my computer, it still can't connect.
There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when it will connect and when it wont. Sometimes I can access it just fine then about five minutes later I can't.

Jun 7, 2010I recently swapped from ubuntu to slackware. It's all functioning, minus the wireless network. Decided to forgo my usual fluxbox desktop for the features in KDE until I get ready to swap back (not sure what programs I'll have to add to startup in flux yet). I'm using a toshiba satellite L305-S5957 with a Realtek 802.11b/g wireless-LAN adapter. Not sure if it's a hardware problem or if I just don't know how to connect with kde.

Oct 1, 2010I installed the new Slackware 13.1 64 on my laptop and I am trying to connect to the internet via a wireless network but i don't what is wrong with my configurations it just doesn't work.
I tried doing the following:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "ESSID"
iwconfig wlan0 key "Password"
iwconfig wlan0 channel NUMBER
Then i do dhcpcd -d but then no success after - i try to ping some sites, no reply, i put new dns servers in resolv.conf, still no results, i tried to ping some ips and it says network unreachable, it just doesn't work at all.
I did iwlist wlan0 scanning and it found all the wireless networks, so the adapter is not the problem, the problem here is the procedure. How to do it properly so it will work ? I can connect via ethernet by easy configuring eth0 but i have no success for wireless networks. I read everything there was on google, i searched a lot of sites, i tried a lot of different methods but NONE of it worked.
Slackware :: USB Wireless Card Recognized But Cannot Connect To Network?
Dec 17, 2010Hi I have istalled a D-Link wireless adaptor - with the help of this forum.
It is up and running - the light flashes and lsusb identifies it correctly, so does iwconfig.
I can, however, not connect to the network, and I noticed the following errors on boot up.
Trigering udev events: /sbin/udevadm trigger -- type: failed /etc/rc.d/rc.M: wlan0 Error for wireless request; "Set Nickname" (8BIC) information; "Any ESSID" Set failed on device wlan0; operation not supported.
Lower down I get
Starting rt2870 drivers . . . /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: wlan0 information "Any ESSID"
Error for wireless request "Set Nickname" (8BIC) set failed on device wlan0 : Operation not supported
I have on two occassions seen sugstions to use wicd, but how do I use that?
Slackware :: Setup Wireless Network With WPA2 Encryption?

So is there anything wrong with that "Encryption key: off" statement? I suspect that encryption key only applies to WEP, but not to WPA2 encryption, but I am not sure. So my question is, can I ignore that statement and assume that my encryption is fine?
Besides, where does knemo read the information about encryption from? As I mentioned, knemo detects that the encryption is active. Are there any other commands to make sure that my encryption is safe and well?

Apr 28, 2011I'm using a hp dualprocessor athlon 11 g42-415dx notebook pc and my wireless wont work i put the passcode in wicd program and it says bad password. So i tried the pin code on the wireless router and that didnt work so am i doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the hardware? i got the wired connection to work but cant get wireless its a little more complex.

NetGear WG511T pcmcia card using madwifiNetGear WPNT511 pcmcia card using windows driver via ndiswrapperSlackware 12.2In both cases the card is recognized, and I can get a list of access points with iwlist.I can set the card to connect to the desired access point. I can use dhclient to get an ip address from the remote dhcp server. This works, the card is assigned a valid ip address on the desired network.Once I do this, however, I cannot access any network resources, no Internet, and no other devices on the network can see, ping, or access my laptop. It does this with with both cards, using madwifi or the windows driver via ndiswrapper.
Slackware :: Wicd In Current Won't Connect To Wireless Network - Fixed It With Rebuilding?
Mar 5, 2010After I upgraded to current(Tue Mar 2 19:07:31 UTC 2010), I could not connect to any wireless network. It will always failed in obtaining IP address. When I rebuild the package and upgrade with the new one, the problem gone. Also I notice that the package I rebuild is different with the one on the stock tree:

Aug 22, 2010I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

Ubuntu Networking :: Get Wireless Network Adapter To Be Read By 'Windows Wireless Drivers'
Nov 24, 2010I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
It is booting much faster now but the wifi keeps dropping off.

After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

Nov 5, 2010I'm moving from other distros. and I'm currently loving openSUSE and I'm probably going to stick with it for a long time.I have already googled for this, but I found no solution, but I figured this should be a common problem... Does google searches inside this forum?Now... for my problem, whenever I hibernate (suspend to disk) or sleep (suspend to ram) I can't resume my wireless connection nor connect to another.I don't know if this is an issue if I use cables, because I simply don't with my netbook:The hardware in question is an ASUS 1005HA eee pc, running openSUSE version is 11.3 fully updated. Didn't mess with wireless connections, nor kernel or hibernate settings
