I'm using version 13.37 for Slackware (not current). I've tried using XFCE and KDE (currently using KDE) and after using it for a while, it will seemingly randomly crash (20 minutes to multiple hours). The only thing that seems to be constant is that I'm always using Kate when it happens.

It seems like it is mostly happening when I am running fire fox. The screen goes black (but in in sleep mode) and I have to push the power button. After I push power button the screen goes marron-ish with an ubuntu logo with a 4 animated dots and then turns off.
when I start the PC up again I get an error about the Power Manager not ending correctly. It has happened 3 times so far today alone.
I've never seen this before, but for the past few days whatever I'm working on has had a tendency to close out with no warning. Just in the last two days evince, empathy, and eclipse have closed randomly. Since I use eclipse constantly and as a result it's been crashing the most I went ahead and started it from the command line. Here's the output I get when eclipse closes:

it appears to have something to do with the "decorator," but disabling compiz all together doesn't fix it. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. The issue seems to have started shortly after installing a triple-core processor - but I'm not sure that's related.
I've (finally) got the 64-bit Flash driver installed and working, but now I get an illegal instruction when I run a flash operation (video, game...) at a random point while it runs. I see this in the terminal:

So basicly I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 and I am experiencing something I always experience when I install Ubuntu. I will be using a window and then when I switch to another window it will randomly crash and it takes me ages to be able to close it down, sometimes I can never close the window down. This has stopped me from being able to use any version of Ubuntu on my computer which is disappointing because I really love Ubuntu.
I have no idea how to fix this issue at all, I have downloaded drivers for Linux from the Nvidia website but I get a window saying it cant be opened, and no surprise after many efforts I can't even close that window. Its a .run file so I don't know if I have to run it via terminal? I am fed up of not being able to use Ubuntu because these windows freezing is making it unbearable to use.
My Suse 11 computer has been crashing; randomly once every couple
of days. This computer mostly sits unattended downloading torrents,
except when I'm browsing torrent sites or moving files.
Typically, the mouse, keyboard and screen freezes, though some
processes may (or may not) still be running in the background.
It seems to crash more often when there is intensive harddrive
usage. A fiend tested the hard drives. And the drives formatted
and OS reinstalled without fixing it.
1) What software can I use to test the ram?
2) I know my powersupply is marginal (and consumption highest
using the harddrives), could low voltage cause this?
3) What else should I look for/test.
is anyone using homebank? i'm having it crash with a segmentation fault error everytime i open an .xhb file since either updating to current or kde 4.4. i can't recall exactly when the crash started to happen but i am sure it is after either one of the updates.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.

Since my upgrade to 13.37 + VirtualBox 4.0.4 (from SBo) I'm having trouble with one of my VMs containing a PostgreSQL installation (also from SBo) which has been running fine before on 13.1 + VBox 3.2.10.
This is what happens: I'm starting an I/O heavy job on the DB that should take about an hour but never finishes because the virtual disk stops working after 10 to 40 minutes.

I installed Slackware 13 (full install) a few days ago and every thing is working well except KDE freezes (I'd say randomly but lately it seems as if it happens after I use a KDE program or component.) and nothing works except the mouse cursor, I have to use the power on/off to reset the computer. After a reboot and fsck checks the partition that was unmounted improperly I log in delete a few bad files (.serverauth.XXXX, socket-speeedy and tmp-speedy) I'm usually able to restart KDE using startx. Googling around I think it may be my on board Intel video, dmesg id's it as the Intel 830M Chipset. BTW, this box ran Mandrake 10.1 for the last 6-7 years without problem, for what's worth.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI got this problem ever since the 13.1 slackware64 release this has been annoying for months the slackware64 installed in a vmware workstation guest machine, the problem is that when the host (real pc) entered sleep while it resumes from sleep the guest vmware workstation running slackware64 13.1 the kernel starts to crash and broadcasting error messages inside the Konsole in every single tabs, here I attach the trace of kernel fault in dmesg.txt I hope it will get fixed next slackware64 release.

it seems the source code for the flash player plugin probably contains this bug, as manually modifying the libflashplayer.so binary to replace memcpy calls with memmove calls fixes the problems. at least it clearly did for me.

Hey all, I have got this strange problem with my Slackware server acting as router and gateway to my internal network. It randomly disconnects the WAN connection after X days ( it is between 2-7 days ). This error messages occured in /var/log/messages just before it lost its WAN connection:

When plugged in, it asks for the password in Xfce (like it did in Slackware 13.0), but instead of the previous "asks twice for password" bug, now it asks once, but nothing pops up on the desktop. I see /dev/mapper/luks_crypto_{UUID} get populated, so they are successfully being unlocked (LUKS), but no icon appears, and no mount point for the volume label (i.e. /media/BACKUP /media/ASUS) is populated.Does anyone know how I could produce a more useful bug report? I'm wondering if "strace startxfce" would produce anything useful or if I should alias Thunar to "strace -o /tmp/thunar-`date`.txt" would be in order.
I have no idea what the program does, but I'd like to find out.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window.While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.
Kate run well in gnome several weeks ago but know it dose not. I click the Kate icon in the application panel but can not see any response.

When saving files through SSH using kate or kwrite, the permissions always reset to 644 when I want them to stay at 666/777. When using notepad (not sure what this is, it's just in my right click contex menu under "open with...") the permissions persisted after I saved. Permissions also persist with kate and kwrite on my local machine.
Is this something I need to configure on the server? Using Opensuse 11.2, kde 4.3, kwrite 4.3.1-5.6.3, kate 4.3.1-3.7
kate is my favorite text editor, and everything was working fine until recently. Whenever launching Kate, whether by opening a text file or by clicking the Kate icon, a dialog box pops up that KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'. In the background, a konsole window flashes briefly before disappearing.The baffling thing is, that if I click the "run Kate" shortcut, instead of the Kate shortcut, then Kate launches normally.
