OpenSUSE :: Kate Color Scheme Won't Change?
Oct 3, 2010
I'am trying to change the color scheme of kate, using ./install.sh or append the content to that archive explained here:
zenburn - eye-gentle Kate color scheme KDE-Look.org
but doesn't seem change nothing, and doesn't appear "zenbur" in "Default Scheme", or even directly in kateschemarc but it is empty!

I used to use the negative filter (Compiz) with Eclipse in order to have a dark background, but I wasn't satisfied. Then I ended up changing the Appeareance for all gnome windows (and applying a color scheme to Eclipse editors), so my background is black and the text is white.
It works perfectly for most of applications, but some (i.e. the crappy Celtx) are unreadable, as they keep the white of the font but use a white background. For Celtx, I'm still searching for the css to modify. But, overall, it could be great if there was a way to define one -more standard, black on white- color theme to be applied only on some applications (the conflictive ones).

I need to change the default color scheme in Ubuntu's terminal. Or at least turn the colors completely off because this lime green hilight / light blue text is killing my eyes.

I have several terminals opened at once to monitor the logs. It would be helpful to choose different basic color for text (and maybe for background) for each terminal so I can quickly locate the one I need. Anyone know how to do this or perhaps point me to right direction?

How can I export my Ubuntu terminal's color scheme for use on other computers?I've set up a color scheme that I like and I'd like to put it in a git repo for easy loading from other machines. Any strategy that would make it work in other terminal apps too, such as Konsole?

I just installed SUSE 11.3 on my PC and used KDE desktop. But the default color and style of the task manager bar looks not so good to me. It's a back and gray bar. How to change its color and style? Should I install something else or just do some settings? I look through the system setting but can not find a way. Could you kindly please tell me how to do that?

Fresh install of 32-bit 11.3 on my father's computer. He needs me to enlarge the mouse pointer and/or make it a different color. I changed it in the settings/themes thing like you are supposed to, but it appears to only take effect in Mozilla.needs the larger mouse pointer for the entire system. Evolution appears to completely ignore the mouse theme settings.

I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu on my small 64GB SSD alongside my main drive for storage. I got everything set up just how I like it (customized clearlooks with Ubuntu Mono Light icons) the same as I have it on my laptop. I disabled all system sound effects. This morning, I wake up to it having a different icon set, and the menus having an identical grey scheme. In addition, the Ubuntu system sound effects are playing, even though in the settings it says they are disabled.I'm not really sure what's wrong! It's the same in both compiz and metacity. Here's a screenshot. Note how the boring old-style theme is applied in the update window and the menu at the top, yet the customizing themes window has the correct appearance for the buttons (funny coincidence)EDIT: I think I've narrowed it down to gnome-settings-daemon. When I try to initialize it via the terminal I get this:
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3852): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3852): WARNING **: Could not acquire name

I use a custom theme on Gnome. I use "New Wave" controls. Next i customised colours to get the Ubuntu purple, rather than orange. This however does not apply everywhere. If i hover menus, highlight text it's OK. On buttons and other controls it remains orange however.
I tried with gnome colour chooser and it seems to override the text only. How can i get read of this (in my opinion ugly) orange and see my (in my opinion far better ) purple tint on my controls?

I have a permissions question that I'm sure has a simple answer but one I can't find. When saving files through SSH using kate or kwrite, the permissions always reset to 644 when I want them to stay at 666/777. When using notepad (not sure what this is, it's just in my right click contex menu under "open with...") the permissions persisted after I saved. Permissions also persist with kate and kwrite on my local machine.
Is this something I need to configure on the server? Using Opensuse 11.2, kde 4.3, kwrite 4.3.1-5.6.3, kate 4.3.1-3.7

kate is my favorite text editor, and everything was working fine until recently. Whenever launching Kate, whether by opening a text file or by clicking the Kate icon, a dialog box pops up that KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'. In the background, a konsole window flashes briefly before disappearing. The baffling thing is, that if I click the "run Kate" shortcut, instead of the Kate shortcut, then Kate launches normally. I'm running 11.2 with all the updates installed

I wanted to fix something in the Kate editor. So instead of downloading it from it's website (Get It! - Kate | Get an Edge in Editing) I wanted to download the "openSUSE Kate" source package. But as you can see, there is no source package available. I tested it with source installation of "zypper" (zypper si zypper) and it worked.Any ideas? Is the kate source code in another package?

After upgrading to KDE4.7 I would get the error message, "A KDE text-editor component could not be found. Please check your KDE installation.", when I clicked on text files. The all knowing Google provided no answer so I am leaving my solution here in case others are as unfortunate.
For some reason kdelibs3-32bit is pulled in when I upgraded to kde 4.7, removing it fixed the problem.

I've got a well loved, highly customised Gnome desktop scheme on Opensuse 10.3. I want to do a fresh install of the latest Opensuse but would like to keep the Gnome desktop and colour scheme from the old installation. I also want to have the exact desktop scheme on a new laptop that I intend to install with Opensuse. What file/folders do I need to back-up from the old installation?

I have a Ubuntu server with encrypted LVM2 (logical volumes - /, /var,/tmp,/home etc.). I need to migrate this to an OpenSUSE 11.2 server (cannot use a later version due to the availability of a binary-only module - that is just the way it is). When I fire up the installer, I cannot seem to find an option to mount the encrypted disk (/dev/sda) which has the LVM2 structure. I do not want to lose /home (logical LVM2 volume), so a clean blank slate install is not an option.

I am working on a English (US) KDE installation of opensuse 11.2 with a US keyboard and I have some troubles to configure my system in order to work on some French documents using Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse.
For instance, when I save the content of this link [url] on my hard-drive and open the file in Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse, all accentuated characters are displayed as black lozenge signs with a ? inside. What should I fix in my configuration to have those characters show correctly?
A related but maybe slightly different situation is the following: In Eclipse, when I use a French keyboard layout in Eclipse (using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + K after setup in Configure Desktop > Regional & Language), I can type and display accentuated characters correctly. However, as soon as I spell check my document (I believe Eclipse use aspell for that), all the words containing the accentuated characters that I typed are shown as being wrong. Eclipse suggests some corrections that show up with black lozenge signs with a ? inside...
