View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running ubunutu 9.10 and am having problems with the Kate text editor (v3.3.2). I leave my computer on for many weeks at a time as it is part of a network and others use it to run code on. During this time I am using kate as my text editor, and copy and paste from kate to other applciations, such as the terminal.
Infrequently but regularly enough to cause me trouble I can no longer paste text I copy from kate. I can copy and paste within kate, but I cant copy from kate and paste into the terminal or thuderbird, or firefox etc.
I am a CS major and Iv'e been using vim with a custom rc file to do my editing... A professor suggested we can use kate with terminal for better speed so I thought I would give it a try. Unlike vim, geany, eclipse and others kate does not indent java code, for example after "{ <ENTER>" it should indent to the right 1 tab, but it does not, so I have to press <TAB> every time I go to new like, and I have to go back and forth for different statements...
This does not make things faster at all, Is this even possible? Any other editor suggestions that do not use GTK, but kde native Qt with terminal emulator?
Kate run well in gnome several weeks ago but know it dose not. I click the Kate icon in the application panel but can not see any response.

Opening in kate, no matter the encoding, messes up the characters. They turn to (a '?' in a hexagone) or chinese characters!What's the proper procedure to open and save those files properly in kate ?
I have a permissions question that I'm sure has a simple answer but one I can't find. When saving files through SSH using kate or kwrite, the permissions always reset to 644 when I want them to stay at 666/777. When using notepad (not sure what this is, it's just in my right click contex menu under "open with...") the permissions persisted after I saved. Permissions also persist with kate and kwrite on my local machine.
Is this something I need to configure on the server? Using Opensuse 11.2, kde 4.3, kwrite 4.3.1-5.6.3, kate 4.3.1-3.7
kate is my favorite text editor, and everything was working fine until recently. Whenever launching Kate, whether by opening a text file or by clicking the Kate icon, a dialog box pops up that KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'. In the background, a konsole window flashes briefly before disappearing.The baffling thing is, that if I click the "run Kate" shortcut, instead of the Kate shortcut, then Kate launches normally. I've tried using XFCE and KDE (currently using KDE) and after using it for a while, it will seemingly randomly crash (20 minutes to multiple hours). If you have a script that works sometimes and doesn't work other times in Kate and there just might be error outputs that kate isn't passing around in any obvious manner, how would one know how to find out what's going wrong?I'm talking about the user-made scripts under Tools/External Tools. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a dark theme (Obsidian Coast) which is making things a pain to read using the default LaTeX syntax highlighting and color schema of Kate. I can edit the schema just fine, but that does not affect the colors of certain highlighting features, such as the color of expressions which fill in the ellipses of "section{...}", which turn out black or "egin{...}" which turn out dark blue.
Is there any way to fine-tune the highlighting features of a particular kind of markup (LaTeX in my case)?
I am attempting to launch kate via kdesu as well as from the command line and it fails both times. I have (after the first failed attempt) coppied my .kde folder to /root and still am not able to launch it (it works fine under my login). The following is what I get after removing my personal .kde folder from root and launching kate: kate(16689): Session bus not found

I wanted to fix something in the Kate editor. So instead of downloading it from it's website (Get It! - Kate | Get an Edge in Editing) I wanted to download the "openSUSE Kate" source package. But as you can see, there is no source package available. I tested it with source installation of "zypper" (zypper si zypper) and it worked.Any ideas? Is the kate source code in another package?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use kate for almost all my text editing (not word processing). I love it, but it defaults to margins that don't work on my printers. Things get cut off at the top and bottom of the page. The printer works fine with all my other applications - most of those allow the margins to be set in the application.
In kate, I can go to printer properties and set the margins to something that will work, but I have to do it every time I print.
Is there some way around this?
I read some posts elsewhere about using enscript. I know how to do that, but not from within kate.
I'm running Karmic 64-bit and Kate 3.3.90.I have been splitting up a very large (16,000 lines) text file by copy/pasting bits of it into smaller files. I had about 40 of these smaller files loaded into a session along with the large file. About 20 were from a previous day of editing and about 20 had been added (and saved) today.
I tried to save the file I currently had open and Kate crashed. I didn't think it was that big a deal until I reopened Kate and all of the files I had added today were gone!!I've looked in the folder and even the backup files that should have been there for files I'd saved more than once are not there.
After upgrading to KDE4.7 I would get the error message, "A KDE text-editor component could not be found. Please check your KDE installation.", when I clicked on text files. The all knowing Google provided no answer so I am leaving my solution here in case others are as unfortunate.
For some reason kdelibs3-32bit is pulled in when I upgraded to kde 4.7, removing it fixed the problem.
I am working on a English (US) KDE installation of opensuse 11.2 with a US keyboard and I have some troubles to configure my system in order to work on some French documents using Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse.
For instance, when I save the content of this link [url] on my hard-drive and open the file in Kate, Kwrite or Eclipse, all accentuated characters are displayed as black lozenge signs with a ? inside. What should I fix in my configuration to have those characters show correctly?
A related but maybe slightly different situation is the following: In Eclipse, when I use a French keyboard layout in Eclipse (using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + K after setup in Configure Desktop > Regional & Language), I can type and display accentuated characters correctly. However, as soon as I spell check my document (I believe Eclipse use aspell for that), all the words containing the accentuated characters that I typed are shown as being wrong. When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox,epiphany,opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows.Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success.The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. Last think.I have recently downloaded the recommended updates from the update manager but i don't remember what are the things that where updated.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu (9.10) on my sisters computer. I have installed ubuntu 9.10, but when I try to boot it from hard drive, it would stop loading a bit after the logo appears. The screen would turn off while the system is still running. Live version of Ubuntu works after reports of errors. I tried to search for the problem all over the forum, and could not find a good lead to figure out the problem.
So far to figure out the problem, I verified if cd is corrupted. No issues there. Googled the problem, and seems like other users were able to install 7.04 (old posts).
Its so weird though that live version works and the installed version does not.

I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:

I have found that APACHE or 'httpd' is installed in my machine. But the problem is I can start or stop the httpd but whenever I load the url http://localhost in Mozilla it shows a page load error.I have done this ,
