But when I want to type Korean on Internet explorer, it just shows question marks. (look at the picture)

I finished my installation of Slackware 13.37, but I found I cannot input chinese using pinyin in KDE. Of course, I started "scim input method", I mean I can see the icon of keyboard in the tray bar, but I cannot swith input method into chinese with "Control + Space".
View 14 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get Japanese input working with scim-anthy. I have scim 1.4.9 installed and the daemon running. I have the scim-anthy 1.3.1 package installed as well. I can open and modify the scim-settings, but I can't get the anthy dialog to appear. Apparently, ctrl-space should bring up the dialog, but nothing happens. I tried following the instructions on this page under "Open a program with japanese input enabled - via command line", but still no dialog. After starting the daemon, I tried:
Code: XMODIFIERS='@im=SCIM' LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 gvim And no luck. Note that I don't really understand what that command is supposed to do. Should it be something different?
I can't type in hangul (korean) because SCIM isn't working. It's installed and configured to work.
Anyone else having this problem in 11.04?
I would like to use Japanese kana (hiragana, katakana, kanji) on Ubuntu but everything that I've tried to get it set up and running isn't working. The Spanish that I have set up is working perfectly so far.
I've read, the SCIM input program should start up automatically when loading a program, it doesn't. When I have it loaded I cannot seem to get the input working.
I'm on a project and I need to type Chinese. I'm new to this Linux thing (only a week) and very noobie.

I would like to configure the input from the keyboard to switch from English to Korean. I have keyboard with English and Korean and I would like to configure one of the keyboard buttons to switch the input language similar to how Microsoft multi-language support works. What applications and configuration changes are necessary to implement this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'd like to use Korean but have an English keyboard, an English environment, and need to input via this method. It appears that there is currently no way to use ibus and have the functionality of the "hangul-romaja" tables that SCIM had. For example, it used to be, using Hangul-romaja, that I could type the letters "g" and "a" to get the Korean "가" (ga).
Now, the moment I type "g" it automatically writes. Typing "g" and "a" produces: Am I just doing something wrong? Using Anthy in Japanese works just fine...typing "g" and "a" produces a "が" just like it's supposed to. Anyone out there know what to do to get Hangul-romaja (or something similar!) working in ibus? Am I stuck having to just guess at the Korean keyboard layout or memorize it somewhere? Might there already be an ibus-compatible solution for this?
I was recently surprised by this SCIM stuff that seems to screw around with my normal text input. I try to be curious and approach my issues with an open mind, so before I try to remove SCIM, I want to know what the hell it's supposed to do.but it's not obvious to me

Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be, or what I should be looking at?The point is not that can't see the characters (but e.g. gibberish instead), but that the characters that I type in the input bar are not transfered into KWrite upon commit.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhile I can find my way around most things, terminals and desktop managers are different than I remember. One of the biggest problems that I am encountering today is that when running a gnome terminal (this is Suse 10.0 enterprise), I'm getting behavior in the window that I don't want. Specifically, when I type, my typing is underlined as if something is trying to spell check my window. Further, it seems as if when running vi or less, my keystrokes are only processed by these apps when I hit 'return'. I.e. if I'm running less and want to go back a page, I'll hit b, but nothing happens until I hit 'return'.
I seem to have tracked this down to the 'input method". Right clicking in the Gnome terminal allows me to set my input method to one of a dozen values. It seems that currently, it's set to "SCIM Input Method". If I then select 'default' or 'X Input Method', apps (i.e. things like less, vi, and even the bash shell) behave as I would expect.
a) what is this SCIM input method
b) how can I make it so that it is not the default?
I've poked around various configuration files in my home directory as well as in /etc, but I can't see to find how this is set.
I'm using Centos 5.4 and have problem relate to the server's font. We installed Korean fonts on the server, but I can't read korean on the server, and I can't create file with a korean name.

In "language support" I installed Thai, but it remains grayed out.
In "ibus preferences / input method", no languages are shown.
I added:
I added: "ibus-daemon --xim" to startup applications. No effect.
This happens under slackware 13.1 32 bit and 64 bit. If scim-bridge is running, firefox will freeze the whole XWindows, especially when a pop-up window appears within firefox. Replacing scim with fcitx (Chinese only) input method solveed this problem. This annoyed me for quite a period even when I was using slackware-current because I did not know what caused firefox to behave strangely. Why no one reported this problem? I think no one uses scim and firefox at the same time here.

Then I try press Ctrl+Space to trigger but it doesnt work, even it quits itself sometimes.
The hotkey problem also occurs with KNotes. I have set Global Shortcut for some functions such as New Note, Show All Notes. And it works only once in that session. If restart machine, those shortcut is useless.
My system is Slackware 13.0 with KDE.

I just switched back from Mint 10, and while setting to work different input method apps like SCIM and Ibus, bumped into a problem(welcome back to SUSE). After installing Scim, my chinese input works only on one application (Goldendict), it doesn't work in any other app. So I tried Ibus, same result. SO far nothing helped me to make them work. What I 'm trying to find out. Is where I can setup language input method in SUSE, I haven't found such an option anywhere in KDE, yast. WHile in Mint there is such an option, where you can change your inpud method either to scim, xim, scim-bridge or ibus. I tried qtconfig, there I found it, P.S. Warning rage words!: I feel like I should say it. But my previous SUSE experience and overall usage history proves that there is no better distro than Ubuntu nowadays, this is sad indeed, cause I used to start from SUSE. But its true, SUSE is a real pain in the ***, when it comes to getting things done. It seems like whenever u try to setup something there is always a bad feeling of failure. Don't know, but again I'm been consecutively annoyed but its numbness. I'm sorry, cause I feel like I disregard ppl's hard work and support.

Currently I am on a Brazilian abnt keyboard and an English system (which is what I want), but I am unable to output accented characters - which I sometimes want, when I am not programming. I need something to switch around, but cannot find where to configure additional languages (not keyboards) neither where to switch.
I am on 10.04 with a gnome desktop.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to start a process, and while it is running, pass input to it as though it were a stream. Although the subject of this post mentions this question is "language-neutral", specifically, I am trying to do this in Common Lisp. Truly, I am looking for the principles behind the method of doing this, which seem to me as though they would be language neutral.
I have done Google searches, and found nothing relevant to my query. Without using sockets and IP communication, I would like to start a process (let's use the MySQL command-line client, for example) and then in my Common Lisp (CL) program, pass it input like so:

I downloaded my language specific package of thunderbird from official mozilla repository but when I tried install to slackware 64 could see that package is totally different than Slackware source. There are some slackbuild for compile official thunderbird packages? or how can I change language from slackware source?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to switch to KDE4.4.5 on my main machine. I installed the KDE packages and also the german language file. Everything works fine except the language settings. When I try to start it crash and a KDE crash dialog opens that gives this "developer information":

It works on my netbook. I run on both machines Slackware 13.1. The only difference I can think of is that KDE was pre-installed on my netbook and I just upgraded it. On my main machine I installed all packages except the packages of kde and kdei.
I have some music in another language, but when I open the songs in Banshee, their song names just come up as weird characters (like μ).I went to [System --> Administration --> Language Support] and installed support for that language, but the songs still come up like μ. (But in Nautilus, their proper names show).
I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?
One computer .... three users .... three languages. How do you make that happen? User A speaks English and is happy with English. No problem. User B needs to use Chinese and would like the full system in Chinese. User C needs to use Thai and Chinese. They would prefer their menus to be in Thai and can use iBus for Chinese entry. How do you set up the system so that each user can select their system language when they login?
