I am using src2pkg v.2.0 with Slack 13.0 running kernel 2.6.29.6
In the past I used trackinstall to run 'make install' after configuration and compilation (using a makefile). Here's an example
of what happens when I use the current trackinstall that comes bundled
with src2pkg code...
I installed Xubuntu 11.04 a few days ago, and everything's been more or less fine since then. But I installed some updates last night, paying no attention to what they were, and this morning I logged in to find problems.
Open windows do not get registered with window listings (like in the top panel, for instance). All windows open above desktop panels, and cannot be moved behind them. Some windows open with their title bars above the top frame of the screen, but Alt + Click/Drag doesn't grab the window. Maximizing and minimizing windows do not work. There is simply no reaction to clicking them. I logged out and also restarted the system to see if it was a fluke, but it's not.
Otherwise, everything still seems to be functional. I'm writing this post from the laptop that's having the problem. I'm going to try uninstalling the crappy ATI video drivers and see if that resolves the problem.
Forgetting bad past experience (in debian i386 and amd64), I have newly lost a new DVD in trying to create a data disk with brasero with debian i386. After successful simulation at the lowest speed, burning failed and I expect that the disk is no more good (this occurred in the past). In the past I complained with debian, getting no answer.
In contrast, I tried k3b with full success. However, as a gnome user, installation of k3b brought in so much of kde that proper use of gnome was prevented. Can anyone tell of an installation of k3b that does not hinder gnome? In particular not the startx procedure (as I normally work without calling the x server).

In addition, I was unable to uninstall libreadline5 (since I already have libreadline6 installed).
It appears that libreadline5 may be the source of this problem with dependencies.
I'm using the version 13 of Slackware. I can't suspend or hibernate my OS. I need something named HAL.
Searched a bit on the net but couldn't really figure something out.
I've been messing around with this for a while trying different mesa packages so far none of them have resolved the issue. XFCE, Fluxbox all work however kde wont load for some reason. Ive even tried using the drivers direct from dell as this is a poweredge t310.code...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't think what i've done to make my sound suddenly pack in. One minute all is working well, then its not anymore. The only thing I did in between was install claws-mail yesterday. This evening an error mssage popped up and now no sound.
My card is HDA Intel; The error when i open Kmixer is -
GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem.
I have a strange problem with using curl function in php on slackware machines. So far I tested this on 2 PCs. I din't test it on any other distributions, so I don't know if it's only slackware problem.
Problem is that I can't use php curl in normal way. It can be tested wit simple code:

When I'm opening this php script in browser I'm getting error message:

Couldn't resolve host 'google.lv'
but I can use curl command in terminal, also it works when I run this php script in terminal like:

So problem is not in curl or php itself, but in apache, because this happens only when this script is running in apache.
Searching google a lot, I got to conclusion that apache can't read /etc/resolve.conf file during startup. Strange thing is that it happens only when httpd starts during system startup, but if I'm stopping httpd and starting it again manually, it works as it should until I'll reboot my PC. Restarting httpd also do not work, I need to do start -> stop.
I think that apache reads /etc/resolve.conf only when it starting up and as I have DHCP, maybe network is still not ready at the moment of httpd startup.
I didn't try to configure php as php-cgi instead of apache module, I think then it would work normally because each php script would be separate process and it would read dns information each time, so the same like starting php script in terminal with command:

I think there are some ways to workaround it, e.g. delay somehow start of httpd during system startup, or something like that, but I want to find reason of this problem and make it work without any workaround.
I recently upgraded to -current from 13.0 on my Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. It seems to have strange problems since then. The X crashes after sometime if I am running a video in firefox (flash based, say .....) in the full-screen mode. When I am not in the full-screen, it seems to run just fine. A similar thread was posted a few days back (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rashes-846796/) and I thought I had overcome the problem using one of the suggestions provided, but apparently, I just had not run full-screen videos ever since (and I thought it was solved!). code...
I should mention that, the crash happened when I was running a video chat on gmail in full-screen mode too. I have the Xorg.0.log for that too, if it is going to be helpful. Also, one thing I noticed was that even Ctrl+Alt+b_space does not work when this crash happens!! (so, I have to go ahead and reboot the system using the power button everytime) This I find very strange, since if at all, I should have been able to kill the process and restart X.
This seems to be an extraordinarily long thread, but I have put in whatever I thought could be useful info I should give. I will appreciate any help in resolving this issue.
There is a known bug with MySQL 5.1.42 that prohibits the QMYSQL driver from functioning properly. I finally found it on the MythTV bug tracker, which links it to the MySQL site. There is a patch available, but the bug was fixed in 5.1.43. To fix it on my system, I grabbed the all of -current/source/ap/mysql except for the actual source, and downloaded the latest version (5.1.44) from [URL].
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was experimenting in virtual machines this evening with software RAID.I found Slackware's method straightforward and intelligible. The README is excellent. I found software RAID setup in Scientific Linux (RH Enterprise clone) and Debian convoluted and confusing.My only question regarding software RAID in Slackware is how the system notifies you about the failure of one component. I pulled one of the virtual disks offline to deliberately fail the array but I wasn't notified when rebooting. I didn't look too deeply into log files to be honest. Can it be set to automatically notify the admin about a failure?

I've got Slackware 13.1 64-bit and I've got a Netgear WG311v3 and I obviously want them to work together! I installed ndiswrapper and I've tried several different drivers from several different tutorials, but I can't get them to work. At first I couldn't get modprobe ndiswrapper to work, but that was because ndiswrapper.ko was in the wrong folder. I moved it manually and executed depmod -a and modprobe ndiswrapper started working.I've gathered all the information I anticipated and I'm going to post it at the end of this. Anything I don't supply that is relevant ask for and I'll try and get it. I'm desperate to get this driver working correctly so I can get back to my life on Slackware. Here's the information:

As part of instructions from Slackware Installation site, I am trying to make a boot file from the ISO (10.2VER). The command given: 'dd if=[image file name] of=/dev/fd0'
Tried image file 'bare.i' and also 'pportide.i'
Error from Red Hat OS: "opening 'pportide.i' no such file, directory" Also tried 'C:>RAWRITE bare.i a:' from WinXP command line with negative result.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI replaced the trusty old aironet wireless card with a trendnet scanbus wireless card so I could secure my home wireless with wpa encryption. It uses the ath5k module, and the wireless is set up with wicd. The issue is that if I stop browsing for about 2 minutes, the next time I start to browse, it will disconnect, then reconnect no problem. I don't know if this is supposed to be a feature, but it is sure annoying. Is there a tweak somewhere to stop this? The other option would be to use ndiswrapper and use windows drivers, but I'd rather explore tweaking, if possible. If I have to use ndiswrapper, would I have to rmmod ath5k first, or would it be ok to use ndiswrapper directly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just setup sendmail on my server to send emails and it works, now I would like to be able to get an email from mdadm if sometjhing was going wrong. I imagine most raid users have this feature setup.
Right now, I have 7 raid arrays and mdadm starts at boot time. Until now, I used Mr. Goblin's script (http://connie.slackware.com/~mrgoblin/files/rc.mdadm) (thanks Mr Goblin!) to monitor my arrays.
The script is started at boot time from rc.local. I created a small script in /usr/bin that send the following command to rc.mdadm giving me the status of the arrays:

and it works fine, but this requires me probing the arrays manually by calling the script from the command line. I would like to automate probing every 10 minutes or whatever and if a fault has been detected, I get an email.

I have a brand new installation of 13.37 but I can't seem to get the nvidia-kernel (64 bit only) Slackbuild from slackbuilds.org to build. I have the nvidia driver installed and working on 13.1 so I am not desperate yet: although I thought that it could just be something with the older Nvidia driver so I waited for the updated release but it fails in the same way.I have uninstalled xf86-video-nouveau and installed xf86-video-nouveau-blacklist-noarch-1.txz from /extra.I have also installed libvdpau from SBo. The nvidia-driver Slackbuild builds fine.I am using the stock 2.6.37.6 huge kernel but have also tried the 2.6.38.4 kernel from /extra and the 2.6.38.7 kernel from Slackware-current.Here is the error message I am seeing:

I am new to slackware and linux at all. Today I have installed slackware 13.1 on my PC. Everything seems fine. Furthermore, I successfully installed mysql and edited the http.conf file throughout vim(this was also new to me). I discommented the line where it says "Include /etc/httpd/mod_php.conf" and moreover changed "DirectoryIndex index.html" to "DirectoryIndex index.php".
I assumed that the library "libltdl.so.7" is missing. When I tried to google it, I cannot find a proper version for slackware.I sincerely apologize if I have posted the thread in the wrong section.

I'm using Slackware64 with multilib (AlienBob) and i can't compile 32bit programs; 64bit programs do compile (tried helloworld). I read the tutorial and folowed it step by step setting my paths right (32dev.sh) and changing libsuffix="64" to libsufix="" from the slackbuild script.

I have discovered that after employing the Wicd Network Manager I can no longer connect via ppp. The reason, it seems, is that each instance of Wicd changes the content of my /etc/resolv.conf file from:

I'm having a problem building some applications (e.g. Qsynth and FreeCAD) with sbopkg relating to an unfound library named "jscore". I've been keeping my system up to date with slackware64-current.Google searches have turned up very little about this library. There is a sourceforge page that has no files and seems to be related to a google hosted script jsCore.js... but I don't think that's what's missing here. I've come across some vague references to this jscore library being part of webkit. Can anyone verify this? I updated my webkit library itself and found no apparent results. Perhaps jscore was removed in an update to Qt (both of the example applications mentioned above link to Qt) as it seems to have it's own webkit library, libQtWebKit.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter trying a "fix" I found on another thread, nobody can log into my laptop! After each attempt, a single message shows up in /var/log/messages code...
This worked for me:
Use a Ubuntu Live CD to boot up, and choose a command-line (shell) option.
With this, set your $HOME directory (/home/username) permissions to something appropriate (I used 755) and make sure all directories can be listed with the "ls" command. Then remove nautilus with code...
The only thing I did differently was I booted into recovery mode from the grub menu rather than from live CD.
