Slackware :: Beware Thunderbird Update If You Do Not Like Version 3
Dec 16, 2010So I installed the latest Thunderbird security update without bothering to check what version it was and found that I had "up"graded from 2 to 3. Despite selecting 'no synchronization' on all my archived Gmail labels it still started downloading many gigabytes of archived email. In Thunderbird 2 I had just the headers of the archive and that suited me fine. So a warning about installing the latest updates without checking and a question: Is there a Thunderbird 2 package for slackware 13.1?

May 27, 2010My company uses self signed certificates, and whenever i access the global address book, every time i start typing an address, TB throws up a security warning dialog. There is no way from that dialog to accept a security exception.
It's getting really tedious.
I tried editing the address book properties to turn off SSL. This makes the warning go away, but then, every time i start typing an address, TB asks me for my password. This dialog has a check to store the password, which i always check. Yet, TB keeps asking.
How do i make this stop?

Jun 17, 2009i have recently installed thunderbird on my fedora 11 box and so far so good. i am interested in encrypting my emails and digitally signing them as well. does anyone have documentation as to how i can do this? i messed around with it last night but i was not able to import a valid certificate.

The Question I am asking is there any way that some one could get in to my email client Thunderbird or Firefox. When I used thunderbird to report the e mail I received a problem reporting that my email couldn,t be sent due to AOL smpt not excepting email because of ssl encrpyption. I checked the settings for the account all seemed ok ssl was still marked. Also while I was on the internet yesterday I got the popup regarding did I want to save a "file" I canceled as I didn,t click anything to download anything.

Apr 6, 2010I store all my personal files inclduing mail folders on my external usb drive which allows me to experiment with different distros freely.On each new install i point the mail settings to my mozilla folder. But Slackware 13 is throwing a lot of challenges my way. I am currently finding that I cannot copy recently arrived mail into my designated folders. The message says something about I am running out of disk space when in fact I have plenty of space.
I initially thought it might have something to do with file permissions. But definitely not in this case. The folder is owned by myself and has full permissions chmod 775.I am currently using windows which gives access to all my mail folders.

Fedora :: Thunderbird Update Fails On Every Attempt In F12
Nov 4, 2010I'm running F12 and Package Updater has been telling me to update Thunderbird for two days but fails on every attempt. I tried to go the yum route today with
yum remove thunderbird
yum install thunderbird
And I get this error:

Dec 24, 2010So, approx 2 weeks ago, clicking on links in Thunderbird stopped working. There is no response in the browser whether it is open or not. I am able to paste the links to the browser just fine. Being congenitally lazy, I would rather just click them. I have upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird and have the same issue. I have tried using Swiftfox, Firefox and Opera - all give the same non-response.
Am not getting any error messages, the links just do not open. Can't find any settings relevant to this issue.Any bright ideas out there?

Nov 22, 2010Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

Oct 23, 2010Running Slackware64 13.1 here. I started up Firefox this morning and all the text is completely blank - all the menus have disappeared and everything. I can't really think of a great way to explain it clearly so I've attached screen grabs of Firefox and Thunderbird (which has the same problem). Other GTK apps seem to be fine, it's just the Mozillas as far as I can tell.
I have tried removing both with code...
And then I reinstalled both Firefox and Thunderbird from .txz files I downloaded from a repository, but they're still the same. Firefox version is 3.6.3 and Thunderbird is 3.0.4.

Jan 21, 2010I'm preparing a laptop for Slackware 13.x or whatever the new release will be. I've installed '-current' x86_64 arch. Boy, is this baby fast on this laptop. I thought 13 was fast but oh well another thread.
My issue now is that with '-current' is that ThunderBird links won't open in FF. I click on a link in TB and noting happens. I searched and found '"Browser" problems in Thunderbird 3'.

I modified the 'prefs.js' file. Of course it was done while app was not running. Still no joy. Further searches showed the same thing with most users bumping back to older versions. There's got to be fix and I refuse to give up to a computer let alone a DE.

Nov 7, 2010I have to go back to System->Preferences->Preferred Applications and reset Thunderbird as my preferred email program after most updates. It usually gets set to custom after an update, which does not work right with Firefox alt-F E to send link to email recipient. I sure would like to know how to make this setting stick.

Apr 14, 2010How can I make the security applet stop showing an update for firefox 3.5.9? I have a more recent version installed from mozilla repo: firefox 3.6. The mozilla repo already has a higher priority (95 instead of 99), so I don't know what to do.
