Ubuntu Security :: Can't Get Enigmail To Install On Thunderbird 3.1.6

Nov 16, 2010

For the life of me I can't get Enigmail to install on Thunderbird 3.1.6.

All I really want to do is digitally sign my emails for security reasons. Can you recommend some other add-on for TB that would do the trick?

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird 3.0.4 And Enigmail Don't Work - Service Is Not Available ?

May 2, 2010

I just migrated from debian testing to ubuntu 10.04 since the newly introduced thunderbird 3.0.4 did not work with enigmail anymore and i need that to read about half of my e-mails. Now, it doesn't work on ubuntu either. I have the version (of the distribution) 1.0.1 of enigmail installed. In the testing version i also deinstalled it and downloaded the version given by the addons. Still didn't work.

If i start from command-line, i get:

Quote:

Saying Enigmime-Service is not available. Usually i get a window saying the same thing each mail i open.

Ubuntu :: Enigmail Caused Trouble Viewing HTML Text In Thunderbird And Firefox

Apr 28, 2010

I cannot read html in emails or in Firefox. It was working fine until I tried to modify the message composition settings in the Preferences menu.I was trying to make it so that I could forward messages in HTML to send to a colleague his flight itinerary.I had set all my messages to be composed in plain text by default with Enigmail.A Google search page for example will only show images but no text is rendered. I can see the blue underlines for links.

If I highlight the webpage and copy it to the Notepad, I can read the text. So the issue isn't that the pages aren't loading, but they are not displaying correctly. The same problem is also now present in my email. Please help! I don't know what to do short of reinstalling Ubuntu and I would rather not.I am on version 9.10 if that helps.

Ubuntu Security :: Enigmail Not Working After Upgrade?

Nov 13, 2010

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. This was a clean install, so all packages are up to date.

I'm using Thunderbird 3.1.6 with Enigmail 1.1.2.

Thunderbird works OK, but if I try to create an encrypted message, I get an error saying that the Enigmime module is not available. When I checked the Enigmail 'About Open PGP' details, it showed the following message:

Running Enigmail version 1.1.2 (20100630-0917)
Warning: Enigmime module not available

Ubuntu Security :: Thunderbird Security Vulnerability Updates

Apr 2, 2010

So yesterday I receive a copy of the SANS @RISK security vulnerability newsletter, and, lo and behold, Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird are on it yet again. (Yeah, I know, shocking, isn't it?)So I quickly check what versions I have installed. Yup: Vulnerable.I check whether updates are available. These are pretty serious "remote code execution" vulnerabilities and the status is "vendor confirmed, updates available." So why isn't my 9.10 desktop's update manager telling me updates are available?

Ubuntu Security :: Add Security Exception In Thunderbird?

May 27, 2010

My company uses self signed certificates, and whenever i access the global address book, every time i start typing an address, TB throws up a security warning dialog. There is no way from that dialog to accept a security exception.

It's getting really tedious.

I tried editing the address book properties to turn off SSL. This makes the warning go away, but then, every time i start typing an address, TB asks me for my password. This dialog has a check to store the password, which i always check. Yet, TB keeps asking.

How do i make this stop?

Ubuntu Installation :: Enigmail Doesn't Work With SeaMonkey?

May 19, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on a laptop for my parents. They use SeaMonkey with Enigmail for their e-mail. They complained that they couldn't read their e-mail.

I did apt-get install enigmail.
Here are the versions that are installed:
enigmail 2:0.95.7-1ubuntu2
seamonkey 1.1.17+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Unfortunately, enigmail didn't show up in SeaMonkey. I looked at the files it installed. It looks like it only points Thunderbird at enigmail, but not SeaMonkey.

How do I get enigmail to work with SeaMonkey? Is there another package I can install? Or do I have to manually move around the files?

Software :: Unable To Revocate Key In Enigmail

Jan 15, 2011

I no longer have access to my private key as it has been deleted. I have however the revocation certificate and the public key (as it is on a keyserver).

My question is:HOW DO I REVOCATE A KEY?

Excerpt from the Enigmail manual:You can use the revocation certificate that you generated in advance (or at least you should have done so) to invalidate the key pair. Select File Import keys from file from the Key Management window and choose the ASC file containing your revocation certificate.

Send the revoked key to your contacts to warn them not to use it any more. If you published your public key on a keyserver, remember to upload again the revoked key to it.I have done this.I import the revocation certificate, I get that this was performed successfully.I am then unable to select "Revoke key" from the popup-menu (by right-clicking).I assume I am supposed to select "Revoke Key" at some point, and that simply importing the revocation certificate is not sufficient?I proceed to upload the key to the keyserver, hoping that it has now been revocated. But when I then delete the public key locally and proceed to download the same public key again from the keyserver, it is still there, and there is no mention it has been revoked.

I can't install enigmail as an Icedove add-on either, because the add-on is telling me that the Icedove build type "Linux_x86_64-gcc3" ain't compatible with it.

Ubuntu :: Can't Import Address Book From Thunderbird To Thunderbird

Aug 26, 2010

Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).

Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.

Software :: Importing Thunderbird Settings From Portable Apps Thunderbird

Sep 13, 2010

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.

This is what I did:

First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).

Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL

Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder

Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.

Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".

And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)

My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?

But I do not know how to install this file. I am very new to Ubuntu and recently migrated from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 9.10.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Fresh Install - Thunderbird Hangs

Jul 15, 2011

I backed up my user directory, did a fresh install of 11.04 (old version was 9.10), and then restored my user directory. (User account information, UID, GID, and file permissions have remained the same.)
Thunderbird hangs w/:
futex(0x7f91c3b02640, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL) = ? ERESTARTSYS (To be restarted)
The Thunderbird window never appears.

I have tried removing ~/.thunderbird/ and ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/, to no avail. I have tried creating a new dummy account and running Thunderbird -- that works okay. So this has to be something in my user home area, I just can't figure out what. While I can wipe my home area and start over, I have about 60 other users who are going to face this same issue when I upgrade their machines, so I am desperate to resolve the issue some other way.

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Install Thunderbird 3.0 Or 3.1 / Enable This?

Feb 18, 2010

I have recently adquired a Dell Inspiron laptop with Intel Core 2 processor and Windows 7 Home Basic Edition (64 bits) installed. Since I need for working linux I have performed a reduction of the main partition of Windows leaving free a 20 GB of hard drive. With an Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop version (64 bits) I have installed then Ubuntu linux in the empty space mentioned now then having a dual boot laptop (I have done this before with other computers, I knew how to do it so to make it work). All went well and both OS works fine. I have installed a lot of packs without any problem, when I installed thunderbird pack I notice that its version is 2.0. I didn`t think that was a problem until I wanted to install some addons and thunderbird complaints that those addons only work with versions superior to 3.0. " Ok" I said to myself, and looked here code...
