All of a sudden, when I click on a link in Thunderbird, nothing happens, where it used to open a tab in Firefox. Left clicking and selecting "open in browser" also doesn't work.I checked in Firefox to make sure I had it set as my default browser, but when I click on an html file it opens in Konquerer. Is there another setting I should change?

So I checked out the Mozilla site and they have a version 6 for download. Why does Suse not want to update from the current version 3?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo, approx 2 weeks ago, clicking on links in Thunderbird stopped working. There is no response in the browser whether it is open or not. I am able to paste the links to the browser just fine. Being congenitally lazy, I would rather just click them. I have upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird and have the same issue. I have tried using Swiftfox, Firefox and Opera - all give the same non-response.
Am not getting any error messages, the links just do not open. Can't find any settings relevant to this issue.Any bright ideas out there?

I have check all my settings and they seem to be fine. Firefox is default browser, clicking a link should open a new tab in Firefox
but id does not work.
What happens is that when I click a link it starts/opens Firefox but with empty address bar.
I need to manually copy link location and paste it manually in Firefox.
What to do to fix it?
So I installed the latest Thunderbird security update without bothering to check what version it was and found that I had "up"graded from 2 to 3. Despite selecting 'no synchronization' on all my archived Gmail labels it still started downloading many gigabytes of archived email. In Thunderbird 2 I had just the headers of the archive and that suited me fine. So a warning about installing the latest updates without checking and a question: Is there a Thunderbird 2 package for slackware 13.1?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links within my emails. When a link is clicked there is no response at all. I am running firefox version 3.6.2 and Thunderbird 3.0.3. After surfing the interweb and the forums I have tried setting the default browser through Firefox itself and through the preferred applications GUI in Ubuntu with no luck. I have gone into the about:config for Thunderbird and added the following lines:
network.protocol-handler.app.http /usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https /usr/bin/firefox
I'm having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links using Chromium (chromium-browser).
The default browser is now set to chromium-browser in KDE system settings. I've also tweaked the Thunderbird config network.protocol-handler.app.http and https settings to use chromium-browser or /usr/bin/chromium-browser.
Despite this, Thunderbird keeps opening links in Firefox. I'm bewildered as to why.
One thought is possibly an old GNOME system setting (there are .gconf and .gnome2 directories in my home directory, though I no longer use GNOME or have it installed on my system). But I don't know and I would have thought the Thunderbird config would have overridden that in any case.
I have switched from Gnome 11.1 to KDE 11.2 but am still using Evolution Mail as I could not figure out a straightforward way to move my large email base to KDE PIM. When I click on an http link in Thunderbird, nothing at all happens. There's no error message on the console, there's no new browser starting, and there's no new tab opening with the browser already running.

Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

Now these are old buggy versions (see e.g. texi2dvi: locale-dependent error in egrep [A-z] ), causing that documentation can not be built, for example when building gcc. Now one would hope that Suse provides updates (the latest version of texinfo is 4.9), but I can't find them?
It seems to me that the installation of texinfo is a bit more complicated, because of the integration with your system, so I hesitate to install texinfo myself. Yast should have a bug-reporting facility, where one could easily report such issues. Hope somebody can help (we have to install various pieces of software, which call texi2dvi, which then breaks, making the whole build breaks, and it would be not easy to change the build of these

View 9 Replies View RelatedLast winter we had the intention of using VMWare branded Novell Suse Enterprise as we were going to be getting the licenses/subscription through the purchase of Vsphere. Since that time we have set up 4 VMs, and have been testing an application that will soon be going into production status. However a new issue has arisen. As we are over budget we will not get the Vsphere license (which included Suse subscription). We also found that the added features of a Vsphere license do not really add anything over the free ESX hypervisor.
On the one hand these servers have all been configured precisely, on the other hand we have no update service from which I understand we would need a Novell subscription. Most of the repositories we have added are external to Novell, meaning they are community ones. So my questions are this:
1.) Can we use Opensuse community repositories for the Online Update?
2.) If not is there a way to easily 'convert' Enterprise Suse to Opensuse?
Obviously what we first want to avoid is having to do a brand new install of Opensuse and spend the time moving data from the old to the new. One of the issues that has caused the delay and over runs is that the application we will be deploying has not lived up to its promises, and has caused considerable amount of time configuring, tweaking, and de-bugging.
When i update package sax2-tools to version 8.1-618.1, from Xorg repository 11.2, it autimatically offers to delete the following packages:
sax2
sax2-gui
sax2-ident
sax2-libsax
sax2-libsax-perl
Dont know if this is a wanted behaviour.

If you want to have a localized vesion in different languages, e.g. I am a Japanese, you should go to Mozilla official site to get a tar.bz2 file for Linux.
My question is: an application installed that way becomes an outsider, or a stranger, to the Ubuntu eco-system on user's local system environment. Could we convert it to a legitimate insider, i.e. putting it under the Ubuntu proper package management scheme, via a relatively simple way? If yes, how?
I'm running Xubuntu 10.4 and TB 3.0.6 from the repository, and the damndest thing has happened. Thunderbird was working, and then it stopped sending email -- literally from one email to the next. In fact, I didn't even notice it for three hours.
I never got an error message or a timeout or any of the typical problems; rather, I typed the email, hit send, and then it vanished from the screen. I don't get a progress bar on the bottom or a sent message line, and the message doesn't go into the sent folder. I can receive email, and my Internet connection is working.
I tried all the usual stuff -- checking the settings (which I haven't messed with), deleting each of my accounts and putting them back, looking for rogue extensions (again, I didn't add any between the time it worked and it didn't), and uninstalling, purging, reinstalling, etc. I even ran a virus scan.
But it gets weirder. I installed Evolution, and it works fine. And so does Spicebird, which is basically Thunderbird in prettier clothes. So the problem appears to be with the copy of Thunderbird that I have installed, since I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem.
Any thoughts? If this was Windows, I would assume that the software was corrupted or missing a ddl (or whatever), but I've never seen this happen on a Linux system.
bouncing icon and spinning icon in toolbar for 10-20 seconds, then nothing. Is there a special log file to be found for mozilla errors? (couldn't find anything useful in or near /var/log/messages or warnings all dependencies of associated programmes seem to fulfil dependencies, but obviously something isn't right. I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.
