i did a recent install of slackware 13.1 in my toshiba nb200 netbook and everything is running good, except the sound. i can listen to only one audio stream from one software. if videos (firefox) is playing a video, audacious won't play, and vice-versa. i did some research but i didn't find a solution for this problem.

I have a toshiba netbook, and I'm running linux slackware 13.The sound card is an HDA intel.So far I've ran alsaconf and configured the above mentioned sound card. I've also gone into the alsamixer and unmuted everything and turn the volume up.I get absolutely no audio.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have the install disk on a pendrive and all that (Its the netbook remix 10.04) but when I try to run the "Demo and full installation" I reboot and it just goes back to windows xp. I tried to install the cd helper thing, but it just makes an error and fails. I can't seem to get into the bios because whenever I reboot, the screen is black until windows is loaded and everything. Any help would be appreciated. My netbook is a NB200 by Toshiba.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 (i686) on Acer Aspire 5551G. This laptop has Realtek ALC272 sound chip. Both sound and microphone work fine. But, when I start video/audio call in Empathy the microphone dies until I reboot the laptop (sound continues to work). The same happens with Pidgin and Ekiga. So, I can't make video/audio calls. I believe this is pulse/alsa bug.

I've managed to get everything working including built in webcam on my laptop.The only thing I can't get is sound.

I installed Slackware 13.1 in a EEE PC 1001px. After the installation I had speaker sound but not using the headphones. Then I ran alsaconf and now I don't have any sound at all!!!
Alsamixer shows the channels: Master - Speaker - PCM - Mic Boost - Mic Boost - Capture.
What can I check to see why this is happening?
Just installed squeeze on my Samsung NC10 netbook and lost sound. Sound under lenny worked. Driver is loading as shown by lsmod:

I've had a snap, crackle, pop coming from my speakers since I put this machine together, even now, with no reason for any sound to be coming from the speakers. Additionally, the crackling only becomes worse when I play ANY audio regardless of player or source, however the sound does just drop for a few seconds and then back and then off again when there is SUPPOSED to be audio. I understand not working at all, but "kinda" working is more confusing.
I'm running slack64 with the with an updated kernel from current, even though the rest of the machine is stock 13_64. The problem was the same with the original 2.6.29.6 kernel.
I was just given a computer from a coworker and installed the latest Slackware version on it. I then installed Gnome Slackbuild and installed the Nvidia driver.I've run alsaconf and it seems to run fine without any errors and unmuted all the channels in alsamixer.

When I do, 'aplay /home/emor/sample.wav' it says it's playing but I don't here any audio. I have been using Slackware64 newly installed to an external USB drive to get used to KDE4 and whatnot as I currently run Slackware 12.0. It's been very good and I now feel a little alienated when I reboot to Slackware 12 and KDE 3. There is an ongoing problem though. My machine has a front mounted jack socket for headphones which cuts off the feed to my external speakers as it should. When ever I plug in my headphones the volume coming through them rapidly drops off to nothing, If I then unplug them no sound comes back out through the external speakers. It could be that they are being reinstated when I unplug the headphones but the sound level has dropped to zero - as it has in the headphones. The machine has an on board Intel sound device reported like this :

This is a real pain and the only solution seems to be to reboot. This not only happens when in KDE but also if I run "speaker-test" as a test from the CLI as well.
I seem to have problems with sound on a ICH7 chip. the motherboard is an ASUS P5LD2-SE
The kernel is custom, but SND_HDA_* is included. and generally the sound device is identified properly.

Just installed f14 on my Toshiba laptop, which has a realtek ethernet card. i installed the drivers from the realtek site with no issues (also, i know the card is good, i had it working on suse a while back). No matter what I try, i cannot seem to get the computer to recognize there being a wireless connection (tells me no such thing as wlan0).ifconfig shows the following:

I have just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my brother's Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 and have spent all day trying to get the wireless to work.
the laptop does not have a physical wifi-switch (it should switch on-off with Fn+F8, which doesn't work), the drivers seem to be installed, but I cannot 'enable wireless', and I found that it is 'Hard blocked':

but 'rfkill unblock all' does nothing.

I found a few fixes which I tried to use, to no sucess. updating drivers, turning router on/off, turning wireless switch on/off, various other fixes from ubuntuforums. tried to upgrade to Natty Narwhale to see if the problem worked it's way out, to no avail. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have my laptop dual booted between Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In Ubuntu I randomly lose connection to the wireless network. It always works fine when I first boot into Ubuntu but after a while my wireless connection will go down. The signal strength meter will go to zero bars and the black popup message will appear that my wireless connection has disconnected. At first, if I just wait a bit, the connection will come back. However, after about 4 or 5 times of doing this it will then ask me for my password, and inputting the password does not reconnect me to the AP. I am finally forced to reboot. Then it works OK for a while again and the cycle repeats.
It works fine in Windows7 all day, every day. I have the Release Candidate of Windows7 so it's going to expire soon. I would really prefer to make Ubuntu my everyday OS on this laptop rather than pay for a Windows7 license but I cannot tolerate a flaky wireless connection.
I had 8.1 on this laptop at one point and I never had any problems with the wireless then, that I can remember. I had no Ubuntu for a while but then I came back with the 9.1 and was loving it until the wireless problem reared it's ugly head.

I cant seem to understand what happens to my wifi networking, i just installed ubuntu 10.10 today (completely erasing windows) on my toshiba satellite m645. Seems like my wireless card (the specs say its intel 802.11a/g/n wireless LAN) will only randomly detect the available networks or will connect only for a few seconds just after i just turned it on, then it will disconnect.

Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.

I'm using the on board HD Audio (ALC 889A) and using the optical Audio out for 5.1 Surround sound.

I Can't find a great deal of posts with the Realtek HD audio.
Wireless worked fine on live cd, but for some reason not after install. I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. Here is my wireless output information.
