Ubuntu Installation :: Trying To Run Trial On NB200 Toshiba Netbook Won't Work
Jul 24, 2010
I have the install disk on a pendrive and all that (Its the netbook remix 10.04) but when I try to run the "Demo and full installation" I reboot and it just goes back to windows xp. I tried to install the cd helper thing, but it just makes an error and fails. I can't seem to get into the bios because whenever I reboot, the screen is black until windows is loaded and everything. Any help would be appreciated. My netbook is a NB200 by Toshiba.

I have tried using UNetbootin to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Toshiba NB205 and am having no luck. Both it and Kubuntu NR will boot from live USB and seemingly install successfully, but when I select the Ubuntu option, it hangs and drops me down to BusyBox with initramfs.
When UNR was distributed as a .img file, I could use Canonical's USB image .exe to prepare the USB drive and it always worked like a charm, but now UNetbootin fails me all too often. I don't really have access to another Ubuntu box to run usb-creator with, so has anyone had any success with any other install method? I am dual booting with Windows 7.

After running Ubuntu Netbook off a USB for a while, I decided to format completely and install Ubuntu as the main OS. Except now the bootup is incredibly slow. Once I start the computer it goes to a black screen that resembles the Terminal. I have to wait 5-10 mins to get it completely booted up. Again, if I run it off the Ubuntu USB over the installed Ubuntu, the USB one is much faster.

I have downloaded Ubuntu Netbook and created a USB drive and a CD with the image. When I plug in the USB into Toshiba NB250 netbook it just doesn't boot. I've changed the boot order in BIOS, I've tried f12 to get to boot menu and select the USB drive. I've also tried a CDROM drive too, both with an altered boot order and from boot menu. No matter what I use, Windows 7 loads. I don't even get a screen to suggest that the USB drive is being read.
The USB drive is fine, I have used it two weeks ago to install Windows 7 on the same netbook. I also have a Sony VGN NR32 L. Here, it gets to a screen giving me a choice of trying Ubuntu or installing it. No matter what choice I make, the laptop restarts and boots to that same screen giving me a choice of what to do.

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

I have been running a dual boot system with Windows XP plus SUSE Linux 11.2 since january 2010. Now (2011-03-06) I downloaded Ubuntu 10,4 LTS, produced an installation CD, booted Windows XP and invoked the Wubi to instal Ubuntu under Windows. The good news is that it works! However, I would prefer a different setup.
Currently, when my PC boots, I can choose from the GRUB menu either SUSE Linux or Windows. When I select Windows, I see another menu where I can choose between Windows and my new Ubuntu Linux. I would like to install Ubuntu Linux such that my initial GRUB menu offers the choice between the three systems. From a few articles in the Ubuntu forums I conclude that it should be possible to do so. Is there an instruction on how to do it? I chose a headline that expresses my question in more general terms,

I initially had a dual boot where I could decide to either boot into Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. It work seamlessly. At some point, however, when I booted into Windows, it just seem to only load it "half" in the sense that the desktop just turned black (but when ctrl-alt-del was hit I did receive a screen with the different options).
I suspected there was a problem with grub and proceeded to restore the Windows bootloader by booting into the Windows CD and repairing the computer by entering the commands:
After restarting I suddenly do not have the option to boot into Ubuntu (where did it go?) and booting automatically into Windows the original problem persists.
Any idea what happened here and how I can restore things?

I remember I tried to boot Ubuntu Netbook Edition LiveCD once, but I had a problem with 3D graphics, and a result I couldn't see the menu panels, etc. So, I was wondering, will the same thing happen with Natty, since they are both Unity? Or will they improve support for graphics in 11.04?

I installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

I have tried every forum that exists, but I have been sadly frustrated in setting up this netbook's headphone jack and internal microphone to work. Basically the speakers work fine, but as soon as I plug in headphones nothing happens, then I unplug the headphones and the speakers work fine. I tried adding the following two lines to the /etc/modprob.d/alsa-base.conf options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro enable=1 index=0 one of the other forums told me to do this, but no luck. Also I tried this too: [URL]...

I'm in a hurry to get the wireless to work on my Toshiba A205. Link to system data: [URL]. Didn't have to use anything like ndiswrapper on ubuntu, so thinking its an easy todo here - just need a little prod or two in right direction. In the meantime I'll take a look at the data myself and see if I ain't smarter than I think.

I have a problem booting ubuntu 9.10 after removing a disk drive that had windows 7 on it from my PC. Below is a run down of what happened. My system is MSI based MB with 3 IDE drives and DVD-writer on Primary and Secondary IDE channels. The MB also has a FASTTRACK SATA/IDE controller that I occasionally use to attach another disk for trial/backup purposes. (main backup is to external USB storage)For some time I have DUAL booted with grub2 with ubuntu 9.10 and windows XP all fine and no problems. Use ubuntu as its quick and easy on my old PC. XP for some legacy apps.As I had a spare IDE drive I thought I'd give a Windows 7 a trial. The Drive is attached to the FASTTRACK IDE controller and windows 7 installed with NO OTHER drives attached.
All OK so far!Reattached my other drives and could boot into ubuntu/XP as required. Ran sudo update-grub which found new windows 7 Ok! So for the last month I was happily play/using all 3 OS booting from grub2 loader as required.Windows 7 30 day trail has now expired so no longer of any use to me. So I decided to remove windows 7Here's what I did:..........1st: Just unplugged the disk drive with windows 7 on it! XP boots OK but ubuntu fails to boot! 2nd: Re-attached the windows 7 drive and wiped with ubuntu disk utilityRe-ran sudo update-grub windows 7 no-longer on grub2 menu! Reboot OK windows 7 no-longer on grub2 menu ubuntu and XP boot ok. Remove (empty)windows 7 drive again and ubuntu fails to boot

I downloaded Ubuntu and was hella pumped to use it.. I downloaded it, burnt it at a 4x speed (slowest I can) I did a clean install and made it the only OS on my Hard Drive. After installing it said I didn't have connection. After a good 3-4 hours, I tried every option, I even got it to say I was connected but I still had no Internet connection. I put in my Windows 7 disc to go back to what I originally had. BUT I couldn't install it to a hard drive that wasnt formatted at NTFS, I guess Ubuntu changed my HDD. So, I put back in my Ubuntu disc and clicked 'Try Ubuntu'.. Found out that the TRIAL gives me Internet but the full version does not. I copied down the configuration that the Auto Eth connection had, and went back to the full version - I already had in the exact same configuration. So im here with a trial on my computer, can't download anything or install anything. I cant go back to Windows 7, and I need the disc in to use my computer.

I am playing with SalixOS which is supposed to be entirely compatible with Slack. I've never put Slack proper on this laptop. It's run Ubuntu and Mandriva both and the volume wheel always works. It does not seem to be recognized in Salix. I figure the fix will be the same in Salix as Slackware so I'm asking here. The laptop is an A205 Toshiba Satellite.
