I'm using a short script when I download the Slackware-(current) packages.
Since it works for me I want to share it. I've added a configurationfile, so anyone can adapt it to his/her requirements.
Note: I don't want to prevent anyone from buying the official DVD, but maybe you'll find it usefull to download the packages when performing a fresh install of current.
Advantage of the script is that one has less downloadsize and one can exclude package-series from downloading (in the conf-file).
Here is the configfile, it has to be saved as "getslack.conf" in the same directory as the script.

For the installation I use the bootable usb-image or create a minimal install-CD (CD1 without any packages) like here ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/slackwar...nux/README.TXT explained.
I just noticed, that the fanfare that signals a successfully finished burn process in K3B is interrupted after the first three tones. How can I get back the fanfare in full length?
I am on Slackware64-current with all updates up to 2nd May, 2010.
I'm running Slackware 64 on an HP AMD Turion X2 Dual Boot with Vista. I'm using WICD from KDE 4.?. I am having trouble with my internet connection dropping. Any software that it internet based seems to hang. After 45 to 90 sec the net seems to come back up. If the software doesn't hang I've been able to check WICD and the connection appears to be fine, but it isn't very descriptive, just that I am still connected. It can be an inconvenience for Firefox but is horrible for any online game.
The game drops you in the middle of a fight or lock the game up. I don't know that I've always had this issue but I can't recall these inconveniences at the beginning of my Slack install. I also can't make a connection to a given install or system tweak. Lastly I haven't seen anything in my searches on the net. But hopefully this isn't the only incidence. AND much as I hate to say this, I am not seeing this from Vista and my family has been on line all week from Windows and aren't having the issue.
I just finished my third edit of an article/tutorial I wrote on setting up RSA keys in OpenSSH and configuring SSHD to be a bit more secure than a fresh out of the box install. I also removed any derogatories about sudu Linux that might have been there Anyway, since it's kind of a big deal for anyone who uses it, and could potentially lock them out of their boxes I'd appreciate any comments related to the accuracy of the instructions, if you don't mind [URL]
i'm trying install tor but before I need install libevent. I download it but I don't know exactly how intall it; I download libevent-2.0.12-stable.tar.gz. Please help me, i'm not ingeneer but I like to learn to use Ubuntu.
the short file descriptor of an ISO file. I have been assigned with a task to match the short file descriptor of an ISO file(to be provided to the customer) to check if thats "Kudgo Support tools" or not. What linux command should I use?
I've got a short mp3 file from the BBC's League of Gentlemen comedy show. In the clip, Papa Lazarou tells his dwarfs to put a poster in the local shop. Then he says "Tell them the circus is coming to town."I'd like to grab that sentence "Tell them the circus is coming to town" so I can make it into a ringtone for my phone or something.
After doing a dist upgrade I discover that I have firefox 4.0 and it has disabled adblock plus 1.3.3 and I can not get the new adblock plus since I can not uninstal the old one. Does anyone know how to fix this short of zaping the entire .mozilla file?
Ihave some video clips that i would like to use in web pages and Internet forums as animated images. is there a good free program out there that can get the job done. i also noticed that several gif images on the Internet lag like they skipped several frames, i don't want that i want the animation to play smoothly even if it means the file size will be astronomical.

I get an error when running slapt-get. The error is: "slapt-get: error while loading shared libraries: libsas.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".
I've booted the Slackware disk # 1 and unchecked everything except the libraries category and installed them. I rebooted and it still says this. I get this same error before I put the disk in and rebooted to install ALL libraries. I really need help. BTW, I can't load KDE.I found a pkg manager already installed called "slackpkg". But I really need help on this library issue!! I uninstalled it (slapt-get) anyway, so forget that!
I tried to upgrade my slackware xfce 13.0 >> 13.1. I read "man slackpkg" first, and then I did exactly what I read at the man pages, my system was in init 1 mode.
The mirror I used it was the Greek mirror for 13.1. The command slackpkg upgrade-all was running ok until the "r" letter after that all packages did not upgraded because it was ERROR CHECKSUMS.md5 to all of them. Slackpkg did not upgrade all this packages but just check them and them skip them.
When everything stopped I reboot but at loading time it stops and I have this message: "libuuid.so.1:cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory."
After that I have 2 options to press control-d to reboot or to give root pass and login as root@(none):
After I login I cant connect to internet, I cant shutdown the system only reboot it from cl, I even cant go to init 1 or anything else. I dont know if I can fix the problem but I have to try...
I have just installed SABnzb application in my home folder. The executable file is SABnzb.py When I run the command in the Konsole # python SABnzb.py I have this Quote: python: can't open file 'SABnzbd.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
I just installed Alien Bob's HandBrake package and am getting a ton of warnings:
Code: bash-3.1$ ghb (ghb:27626): GStreamer-WARNING **: Failed to load plugin '/usr/lib64/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmpeg2dec.so': libmpeg2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (ghb:27626): GStreamer-WARNING **: Failed to load plugin '/usr/lib64/gstreamer-0.10/libgstsndfile.so': libsndfile.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've been building a minimal Slackware system with a small number of packages installed (following this article of ). But now I'm facing a problem with a library call 'libmpfr' when installing the package 'pmount'. I have tried installing libmpfr from source but the installation also REQUIRED libmpfr. Code: error while loading shared libraries: libmpfr.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. The only solution I could come up with is to look for a precompiled libmpfr so that I can install it using installpkg. But nowhere could I find it by now.
I'd like to use a keymap not present in slackware "fr-dvorak-bepo" with mkinitrd because my root partition is encrypted by luks. So how can I generate a .bmap file from a classic .map file for mkinitrd ?
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 choosing, as administrator, a User Name and a User Short Name. Now, I would like to change those names and I manage to do it with the first, but not with the second, the Short Name. At the same time, I would like to give the same new name to my personal folder in /home. Is it possible to do all that?
I installed 11.04. No problems. The launcher icons were too big so i resized them with compiz. Being a fiddler I played with the thing for a while, no problems until I unticked desktop wall, when the entire desktop departed. Is there any way short of a re-install to get thi gs working again ?
I have been trying to change my password on this install to a simple 2 character alpha.
I tried using the "users and groups" menu and got the error "password is too short" that also tells me that I need more that 5 characters. After searching for a bit I found the passwd <username> command to be used in the recovery mode. I got a similar massage there too.
upon doing a fresh install I am able to initially set a simple password to do what I want, but after changing to a more secure password I have not yet found a way to get back to where I want to be. I really don't want to burn this down do yet another install.
yes, I know the system is trying to protect me from myself but that is off the point.
I have changed some settings on my DNS / DHCP config under Debian Lenny, and now when i try to ping some box it only works with long names.
For example:
Ping borsti doesnt work (can not find host) but if i use ping borsti.borsti.iss it works. I have no idea why it doesnt work because i only modified the dnssec-key (created a new key) and nothing else in te config Here is the config i used for bind: (taken from named.conf.options and named.conf.local)
I don't like the 'hide' array on the system tray. I never hide my icons there. There is an icon-by-icon setting to hide/show but this is a little laborious. However, there currently doesn't seem to be an easy way to show all icons, but, at the same, hide pop-up notifications after a short delay. How to implement this? OpenSUSE 11.3 KDE 4 repos (STABLE): packman, oss, non-oss, updates, network, security
We are a small company producing short movies in Arabic and we stick to adobe premiere pro cs4. Lately we need to reduce our cost by moving to ubuntu to save Microsoft fees especially regular support. The main problem we have now is the tool to use for producing our short movies, so the main question is:- Does there is any tool we can use as equivalent to adobe premiere pro cs4? I am looking for a really series tool.
I have a quick question: how can I make the path short on the console? My problem is that if I descend 10 levels in a directory tree, the path becomes so long that it takes more, than one line of the console window. Is there a way to shorten it, and show only the name of the current directory, without the whole path, i.e., instead of
