Slackware :: Generate A .bmap File For Mkinitrd From .map File

Mar 26, 2010

I'd like to use a keymap not present in slackware "fr-dvorak-bepo" with mkinitrd because my root partition is encrypted by luks. So how can I generate a .bmap file from a classic .map file for mkinitrd ?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Rip Audio From One .mp4 File And Then Generate One .mp3 File

Dec 19, 2010

So I use the following to rip audio from one .mp4 file and then generate one .mp3 file.

Code:
caleb@linux-vmp1:~> ffmpeg -i a -ab 128000 -ar 44100 01.mp3

Obviously, this takes a file named a and makes a file named 01 that is an mp3. It works great and I have used it many times. The problem is, I would like to rip the audio from several files all at once. I am sure there is a way to do it but I haven't stumbled upon the way to do it.

SUSE / Novell :: File Holds The Modules To Be Compiled With Mkinitrd

Jul 13, 2010

We are running SLES 10.3, I am running Novell's support advisor and it is reporting some old hardware that is failing on bootup, one being a QLogic card and another being flex net network adapter. I was looking around for where the file or directory is that holds the list of modules to be loaded when compiling the kernel but SLES does not seem to match other Linux distro's, at least from the other posts I read for where to find these.

Ubuntu :: Write A Script To Generate An Html File?

May 29, 2010

I'm trying to write a script to generate an html file (complete with formatting- echo "[random formatting]" >> index.html) for all the files in the given directory. So far, it works pretty well. HOWEVER, I want the listed files to be treated as links. I'm using awk to grab the part of the filename I want, but I don't know how to do this out as it fails if there is more than one file. The HTML side would look something like this:

Code:
<li><a href="2010.05.29.html">May 29</a></li>
It all works fine up to the actual number of the day- fine with one file, fails with more than one. My code is this:
Code:
# Grabs all the files and puts them in a list with anchor text "Listed"
ls | find 2*.html | sed -e 's/^/<li><a href="/'

Red Hat :: Generate Default_smp_affinity File In /proc/irq Virtual Directory ?

Mar 16, 2010

I am using RedHat MRG on a standalone intel PC that has 8 cpus. It has 2 Quad cores. I am trying to force some specific persistent tuning on it so that the OS and IRQs are all on one CPU socket and then I can run my Application on the other CPU socket (4 CPUs) using the taskset command.

I have been reading up on this mainly at [url] and having some success. But, I have one IRQ that is not active until my application runs that I want to force it to be on CPU 4.

And so I believe I can do this by setting /proc/irq/default_smp_affinity to 10. But, I do not have such a file on my system. How can I create this file at boot time properly?

Slackware :: Script Error In Mkinitrd With -current

May 7, 2010

since an update to the latest -current version, it comes to an error inside the init script from the initrd.gz on my system, shortly behind the scan for encrpyted devices inside lvm containers.

The message is

Code:
mdadm: No arrays found in config file

1 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg" now activeash: missing ] mount: mounting crypt-vg-root on /mnt/failed: No such file or directory ERROR: No /sbin/init found on rootdev (or not mounted). Trouble ahead. You can try to fix it. Type "exit" when things are done. If i then unlock the crypted root device within the lvm, boot continues. I think this is a bug, because configuration did not change, and it worked before the update.

I get this same error before I put the disk in and rebooted to install ALL libraries. I really need help. BTW, I can't load KDE.I found a pkg manager already installed called "slackpkg". Slackware :: Libuuid.so - Cant Open Shared Object File - No Such File Or Directory

Sep 9, 2010

I tried to upgrade my slackware xfce 13.0 >> 13.1. I read "man slackpkg" first, and then I did exactly what I read at the man pages, my system was in init 1 mode.

The mirror I used it was the Greek mirror for 13.1. The command slackpkg upgrade-all was running ok until the "r" letter after that all packages did not upgraded because it was ERROR CHECKSUMS.md5 to all of them. Slackpkg did not upgrade all this packages but just check them and them skip them.

When everything stopped I reboot but at loading time it stops and I have this message: "libuuid.so.1:cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory."

After that I have 2 options to press control-d to reboot or to give root pass and login as root@(none):

After I login I cant connect to internet, I cant shutdown the system only reboot it from cl, I even cant go to init 1 or anything else. I dont know if I can fix the problem but I have to try...

Slackware :: Bug In Mkinitrd In 13.37 - Refused To Boot As The Harddisk Couldn't Be Found Anymore

May 16, 2011

After installing Slack 13.37 on one of my systems while using my own (non-standard) kernel it refused to boot as the harddisk couldn't be found anymore. Investigation yielded that the ahci.ko driver wasn't loaded (but libahci.ko was). However I listed both ahci.ko and libahci.ko in the mkinitrd -m parameter so there had to be an error in the new /sbin/mkinitrd script. It turned out that a grep at the end of the script weeded out my ahci.ko module as the searchterm "ahci.ko" was already detected in the modprobe line for libahci.ko.

I decided to fix it in an easy way : I just prepend a "space" in front of the module name at the line where the grep is called :

Code: error while loading shared libraries: libmpfr.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. The only solution I could come up with is to look for a precompiled libmpfr so that I can install it using installpkg. But nowhere could I find it by now.

Slackware :: Mkinitrd -Warning: The Initial RAM Disk Is Too Big To Fit Between The Kernel A The 15M-16M Memory Hole"

May 7, 2011

I used mkinitrd to build an initrd from the slackware 2.6.37.6 sources. Lilo throws the following: "Warning: The initial RAM disk is too big to fit between the kernel a the 15M-16M memory hole. It will be loaded in the highest memory as though the configuration file specified "large-memory" and it will be assumed that the BIOS supports memory moves above 16M."

Also, I am running swap, / and home on an encrypted volume group. When the initrd boots (but prior to mounting the encrypted vg) I get a message saying that no modules are found-sounds like a daft question but is this expected? I expect that this is because initrd is looking for modules, but can't find them because the relevant partition isn't mounted.
