View 16 RepliesI'm running Slackware64 13.1. When I change the bright of my screen, xfce power manager show a info bar. But now it disappear, when I run xfce4-power-manager from a terminal I get this info:

I looked at the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file it says something completely diff than the iwconfig. iwconfig is saying there is no wireless extensions on lo and eth1 but on eth0 all my info is there now on the conf file it says and ip address on eth2 and nothing on eth 0, or 1. does anybody know why it keeps jumping back and forth? one week its eth0 and maybe 2 months from now its eth1.
View 11 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has a bad power connector on the motherboard so its constantly making the "power manager" box pop up and it annoys the hell out of me. since its loose it will keep popping up over and over. i either have to click the webpage to put it in the background or click "ok" or "cancel" 20 times to close them all. i like the dark grey box that pops up in the corner but the one in the middle of the screen sucks. is there someway to disable it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been getting a message on my monitor where "Input not supported" is floating around. This only happens when I manually turn the monitor off and then later turn it back on. Leaving the monitor on and allowing it to go to the screen saver doesn't seem to cause the issue (but I prefer to turn the monitor off if I'm going to be away from the computer for any length of time).

I just had it happen again. I tried unplugging the DVI cable from the back of the computer and then plugging it back in. The monitor then displayed the desktop properly. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not in what I may need to change settings-wise.
I use Slackware 13.0 with the 2.6.33.2 kernel, and I use GnomeSlackbuild.I tried to get help on their discussion group, but I didn't get any.I'm trying to build gnome-power-manager 2.30, because it uses the new upower interface (so it seems). I have GTK+ 2.18.9.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI noticed that there is a 1.0.1 version of xfce4-power-manager, so I tried it out last night. Note: It requires libxfce4ui >= 4.7. I compiled it using the same SlackBuild script as the one in Slackware 13.1. It compiled and installed just fine. However, when I logged out of XFCE and logged back in, I could only set a few options, and battery options were completely non-existant.
I double-checked, and my user account in in the power group. Has anyone else had a similar problem? In the meantime, I've downgraded back to the 0.8.5 version that Slackware ships with.
I'm using Slackware64 13.37 with Robby's Xfce 4.8 build on a laptop with two batteries. I've noticed that when the charge for one battery is depleted, the empty battery icon for the xfce4-power-manager panel applet is displayed as an "image missing" icon (see the attachments for screenshots of how this progresses).
Is this just down to a missing image, or is it more subtle than that? Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so how did you fix it? So far I've tried clearing the GTK+ icon cache and reinstalling the hicolor icon theme package as suggested in other threads in this forum, but nothing changed.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 laptop with Nvidia NVS 4200m Graphics card. I installed Ubuntu 11.04.
Before I installed Ubuntu 11.04 I had went to my bios and disabled Nvidia Optiums and changed the graphics to Discrete Graphics. Then inserted my Ubuntu 11.04 CD and installed.
With this I had gotten unity to work. However when I pull the power cable from the laptop my screen freezes. Also if press "FN"+ Home or END to change the brightness of the screen my screen freezes and no longer able to move the mouse or press anything on keyboard.
Did anyone ever run into this problem and or fix this issue? I can get the graphics working properly with Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity with a Nvidia NVS 4200m graphics card.
I have created a custom linux distro originating from the ubuntu server edition and have slim as the login manager, and openbox as the window manager. When it goes into power save mode and turns off the monitor and I move the mouse to wake it up it just goes to the shell with a mouse cursor on it. How can I get it to go right back to the openbox window manager?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast week I upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 to a 8.10. While my ever so loyal machine was performing this business, I started my diner, once in a while having a quick look at how things were going. And they were going fine. The last thing I noticed on the screen was that upgrading was at about 3 minutes from finishing, and when I got back to my PC I was confronted with a black screen. Later on I found out that the reason for the crash was a malfunctioning USB-hub in which my mouse was located.
Anyway, I couldn't get my Ubuntu running, the only thing I got to do was reach the log-in screen, enter my username and password, after which the screen froze. Typing CTRL+ALT+F1 gave me a terminal window, but I had no clue what to go looking for or where/how I could find it.
In the mean time I re-partitioned the HD (75GB), placed the old Ubuntu on a 30GB partition and gave the other 45GB to a new partition on which I re-installed my Ubuntu 8.04. Working from that partition I was able to find out that the old version had indeed upgraded to 8.10 but was missing the <gnome-power-manager> file.
My question now: If I can in any way restore that missing file or point me out some kind of tutorial where I can learn how to do it?
Untill now I have been looking through about a few hundred tutorials, but most of them are written by people who know the terminal inside-out, and frankly are not really easily understandable for newbies.
The fact is: in that old version I have many maps and files which I would like to save (yes, you are completely right: I should have saved them in the first place!) but some of them are for some reason write-protected and I do not know how to get root-priviliges to un-lock them.
So I just recently switched to Ubuntu because my computer's hard drive with windows died. When I bought a new hard drive, it was just easier to use Ubuntu. Anyway, I really like the operating system so far, and have had no problems except for one: When I close the screen on my laptop, the screen won't come back on when I open it. The buttons on my keyboard light up and everything like they should, but the screen stays black. I have tried doing Ctrl + Alt + F keys with no luck. I am very new to Ubuntu so please go slowly. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on an HP Pavilion Dv4 laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed xubuntu-desktop on my Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, just to have the option of using xfce ( I did the same with Kubuntu - kde). I have noticed that the Xubuntu splash screen now comes up rather the the Ubuntu default splash screen.
I tried to use Start-Up Manager to changed back to Ubuntu but Xubuntu xsplash screen ( one with the fire flies ) still comes up. Is their any way to change this back to the Ubuntu Splash Screen without the Xubuntu screne coming up at all ??
I use Squeeze with Xfce. My problem is that recently (after the xfce updates) the xfce power manager doesnt react to the power button - it is set to suspend. I dont have gnome-power manager or anything like it running.
If i reboot the computer, the power button will work but if i suspend and resume, it doesnt work again.
The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).
acpi_listen detects the button press.
Any thoughts?
Compaq N600c w/ Slack 13 loaded...it's an older workhorse that began behaving oddly after the user dl'd a background image for her desktop...on login, the laptop would spawn hundreds of terminals once producing a load avg of 40.5 -never seen that before- as well on shutdown and startup I start seeing the appearance of the following characters ^[[[D repeated hundreds if not thousands of times on the screen, boot and shutdown will progress to completion but it's unintended behaviour, therefore suspect in my mind.hd thorough self-test passed and memtest is not showing errors on it's second pass

I'm new to the forum and actually to Debian as well. Have been running Ubuntu for the past few years. Just setup a small Dell laptop to use as a Squeezebox and Print server. It's been up 6 days without a hitch as far as serving music to the squeezebox and printing. The problem is that it loses it's static IP, so as long as I look it up and change the radio Squeezebox and printer definitions around on the clients everything keeps working.
Does anyone have any ideas?If the connection drops for some reason and the system has to re-initialize the connection, shouldn't it use the /etc/network/interfaces file and get back to the static IP that it is configured for?If anyone has any ideas of why this could be happening or have a solution, I would really appreciate the help.
I have a netbook (Acer Aspire One) I'm running Slackware 13. and usually, I prefer to connect an external monitor. When I switch my machine on with the monitor connected, the display is duplicated on both screens and since I just want the netbook's screen to be off and only see the display on the external monitor, I can doxrandr --output LVDS --off
Great! However, it's a hassle to do this every time I log in and I'd like to automate the process if possible. I did some googling and I found that if you want to automate xrandr commands, you can put a script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ (see this). I wrote the following script to automate my xrandr commands and since the Xsession.d directory didn't exist, I tried creating it. The script was called 45custom-xrandr_settings, as the one on the RandR wiki is called the same.

I recently tried out the awm version of the desktop environment. When I switched back to the Gnome desktop, I found a couple of titlebar-like artifacts left on the desktop.I did some experimenting, using System Monitor and the Kill xxxx command and managed to rid myself of one of the artifacts. The remaining artifact can be taken care of by using kill xxxx comand for the gtk-window-decorator but, this basically renders window buttons useless after the command is issued.
I think I had a couple applications running at startup in Gnome desktop before I switched to awm, and they didn't start at startup when I returned to Gnome desktop, but the titlebar-like artifacts did.Is there a way to reset the state of the gtk-window-decorator in a manner that is less destructive, and which allows my desktop to be clear of this artifact?
I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed. I am very new to Linux. I am having a problem connecting to wireless network when I reboot to Vista OS. When I am using Ubuntu, it works fine. I have to plug in the LAN cable in order to connect to internet. When I try to connect to wireless network, I don't see any networks at all. My WiFi switch is ON. I keep switching back and forth between Vista OS and Linux.Narendra

View 7 Replies View RelatedIm running Jessie, and have run into issue with my laptop sound card.
If is shutdown the laptop with the headphones plugged in, and remove them while its off, system wont recognize they are not there any more and is probably sending sound out to this output. To get the sound out to my laptop speakers I need to plug the headphones while the system is up, and remove them again. Only then will the output device work properly.
