CentOS 5 Server :: Cannot Get Sendmail Or Postfix To Send A 220 Response - Nor Respond With Details
Aug 11, 2009I cannot get either sendmail or postfix to send a 220 response, nor respond with details. See below for sample telnet output. Details: I have a server that requires email, but only for light use. I'm definitely not an expert, but I have set up a sendmail configuration on a previous server. I tried to configure sendmail first and then postfix later, when I couldn't get sendmail working. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but I have a feeling the following might yield some important information. Note: this is the result for Postfix, but virtually the same thing happened with sendmail, too. That is, initially the telnet connection would close immediately. Afterwords, I could connect a second time but then it never responded with a 220 banner nor any 250's.

May 5, 2011Right now i have a HP DL 180 Server with 130 Gb Hard Disk & 8 Gb ram after Raiding0+1. i want to configure Domain Controller Server for my office for 200 to 300 Users. what should the partition size must be mentioned in my 130 Gb Hard Disk, is that going to be Sufficient for ME ?
i am bit confused about /Usr /Var /Boot partitions, as i need to manage perfectly in 130 GB
if i go with 4 Gb swap and remaining for " / " is that will be fine ? should i need to specify partition sizes separately for / tmp /var / usr ..

Installing CVS on Redhat Linux Redhat Enterprise 4.0
The following steps give simple steps to install CVS software on Redhat Enterprise Linux 4.0.
1) Download the tarball cvs-1.11.1p1.tar.gz
2) Run "gunzip cvs-1.11.1p1.tar". You will get file called cvs-1.11.1p1.tar.
3) Then extract this file using command
"tar -xvf cvs-1.11.1p1.tar".
4) Then go to directory cvs-1.11.1p1.
5) There you will find a file called INSTALL. Read it once carefully.
6) Now run the command "./configure."
7) Build it using the command "make".
8) Install binaries/documentation using command "make install".
9) Now open file called /etc/services and add the following lines.
Cvspserver 2401/tcp # CVS client/server operations
cvspserver 2401/udp # CVS client/server operations
10) Open file called /etc/xinetd.conf and add the following lines to that file.
service cvspserver
{
Port = 2401
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
passenv =
server = /opt/bin/cvs
server_args = --allow-root=/home/cvs -f pserver
env = HOME=/home/cvs
log = /var/log/cvslog
}
11) Space on both sides of = in the above file is a must.
12) Restart xinetd services by running command " services xinted restart "
13) Check whether CVS is running on the port 2401 by using the following command "nmap IP |grep 2401". If the CVS server is running correctly it will give output as "2401/tcp open cvspserver ".
It doesn't output like "2401/tcp open cvspserver"

Dec 22, 2010I have added apache application into redhat cluster. If the apache process failed, it will cause the service group fail over. I want to disable the application monitoring. I search throung Internet and it depends on the apache init script. If I change /etc/init.d/httpd status always return 0(success). THe service group will not fail over even apache failed.
However, I want to remain the application monitoring but stop failover. If the application like apache failed, I want Redhat cluster to try restart the application like 3 or 4 times. If restart failed, it will not failover.

Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:

Then I run /path/to/apachectl start, and saw the message:

Then I remembered that I didn't include the rewrite module while making install apache. So I removed the 2 lines I just added to httpd.conf.
But, after running /path/to/apachectl stop and start again, I could still see:

When I use firefox to open http://host_ip:8080/, I could see "It works!". But when I open http://host_ip:8080/hello.php (the file is already under htdocs), firefox said

Apr 23, 2010I'm trying to get 9.10 to work nicely on a Thinkpad Edge 14".Everything is working fine, except that I have issues with the intel graphics drivers.The monitor's native resolution is 1366x768 and I have Intel HD graphics card on it.I have changed my xorg.conf to use driver = "vesa", but now I get only a resolution of 1024x768.I tried to use xrandr to fix this, by adding a new mode etcetera, but this does not work - I believe because the driver is the issue.Also, doing Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] gives me a blank screen rather than a console.

I have heard at my employer that if you setup you system with CentOS and then on down the line you find you need RHEL support that you can purchase a license from Redhat and they will support your CentOS installation.Is that an official policy at Redhat? May 10, 2010I have installed these OS's in this order:
1 - Vista
2 - Ubuntu Server 9.04
3 - Ubuntu Desk 10.04
4 - BT4
I recently upgraded my most often used OS (#3) to 10.04 version and it updated GRUB to GRUB2 as part of the dist-upgrade. I have a feeling that I wasn't careful enough when installing BT4 or I made a mistake in the partitioning. I had plenty of space that was free waiting to be used by some other os and I designated some of that space for BT4.
When I got it all installed (off of a USB live boot) I rebooted and noticed it was back to grub one. The Vista install and the Ubuntu Server install both work still... but the recently updated (to Grub2) Ubuntu Desk install now hangs immediately after selecting it and pressing enter in Grub. I can mount the partition within BT4 just fine and see that all my data is still there, it just won't boot.
What I've tried Using BT4 to install Grub2. (no luck) Installing Grub1.5 back after finding Grub2 didn't work. (no luck) My plan When I get home from work today I'm going to take the "quiet" option off of the boot command in Grub for that Ubuntu OS and see if there's any error it's dumping before it hangs.
Hope that someone has had this issue before and can just tell me a straight forward way of resolving this issue. I'd prefer to use GRUB2 as my boot loader.
