Jan 13, 2011
I have installed Redhat Enterprise Linux Server 5 on my laptop. I want to install Oracle 10g database on RHEL5 server. I want to know whether any additional rpm's need to install before installing the Oracle 10g.
I have dell inspiron 1525.I installed Redhat linux 5.2 and then Oralce 10g R2.I can not start Oracle enterprise manager(EM) on redhat.Except EM oracle is working properly. Why is so ?
I'm trying to configure DNS on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4 - Kernel 2.6.18-128.el5. When I restart the named service, I'm not getting any errors. But service is showing Failed. What could be the reason?
Installing CVS on Redhat Linux Redhat Enterprise 4.0
The following steps give simple steps to install CVS software on Redhat Enterprise Linux 4.0.
1) Download the tarball cvs-1.11.1p1.tar.gz 2) Run "gunzip cvs-1.11.1p1.tar". You will get file called cvs-1.11.1p1.tar. 3) Then extract this file using command "tar -xvf cvs-1.11.1p1.tar". 4) Then go to directory cvs-1.11.1p1. 5) There you will find a file called INSTALL. Read it once carefully. 6) Now run the command "./configure." 7) Build it using the command "make". 8) Install binaries/documentation using command "make install". 9) Now open file called /etc/services and add the following lines. Cvspserver 2401/tcp # CVS client/server operations cvspserver 2401/udp # CVS client/server operations 10) Open file called /etc/xinetd.conf and add the following lines to that file. service cvspserver { Port = 2401 socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = root passenv = server = /opt/bin/cvs server_args = --allow-root=/home/cvs -f pserver env = HOME=/home/cvs log = /var/log/cvslog } 11) Space on both sides of = in the above file is a must. 12) Restart xinetd services by running command " services xinted restart " 13) Check whether CVS is running on the port 2401 by using the following command "nmap IP |grep 2401". If the CVS server is running correctly it will give output as "2401/tcp open cvspserver ".
I have a problem in connecting from windows xp OS to the REDHAT LINUX through vncviewer. The first connection works fine. However, if I want to add more than one connection by establishing the hostname:2 through vncviewer, it stops working. I have tried modifying the file /etc/sysconfig/vncservers to add more than one allowable connections. It still fails...

at work place I have an HP ProLiant DL580 with RedHat Enterprise Server 5.4 x64. Today I cloned this machine using clonezilla. What I would like to do is restore the image to VMWare machine for personal purpose (I cannot perform tests on production machine). But after restoring on VMWare I got "Kernel Panic". That's normal due to different hardware.
Now, is there a way to remove the Kernel Panic and correctly boot the machine? I ask our tech department for the RedHat CD1 to enter the "linux rescue" enviromnent, then try to re-read the hardware list with
I installed Redhat nash version 5.1.19.6 with kernel 2.6.18-128.el5-xen-i686 on a Dell Inspiron 1300 with Broadcom BCM4401 (eth0/LAN) and BCM4318 (eth1/WLAN). eth0 is working fine, but eth1 was causing trouble. After some difficulties with missing packages I managed to install ndiswrapper, blacklisted module bcm43xx in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and removed it, loaded module ndiswrapper and had connection. But after reboot module bcm43xx was again loaded. So blacklisting does not seem to work. And additionally strange to me, I cannot unload module bcm43xx anymore. And if I load ndiswrapper driver bcm43xx is still used as the terminal command 'dmesg' is showing me in the system log, while ndiswrapper was used when the connection was once and only once established
just set up a windows server and other windows boxes send alerts to it no problem.Yesterday I configured my linux box (RHEL 5) using /etc/sysconfig/syslog and /etc/syslog.conf so that all alerts would go to the syslog server. There are no external firewalls involved and while the firewall is working on my linux boxI have made sure port 514 TCP/UDP are let through.Ive checked syslogd and klogd are running.I've also applied the '*@10.20.30.40' line in etc/syslog.conf. Basically Id like everything to go to the syslog server. Now if I telnet to the syslog server on port 514 I can type text on the linux box and it comes through on the syslog server. Great - but no syslog alerts seem to come through normally, even when I reboot the box.I've tried *., .*, and * to no avail, ive got an entry in my hosts file for the server 10.20.30.40 and tried using a name instead of an ip address, no luck.
I need to check with nagios an oracle database that is located on a server. There are a lot of plugins that are provided, the problem is that the database is located on a remote server (i have an hostaddress) and then i need to log on the database (i have username and pass)So i only need to have a plugin that connects to that hostaddress and logs on, but i can't find any plugin which does that
We have a Dell PE6600 with a QLA2460 FC HBA in it. Server is running RedHat AS 4.7 (kernel 2.6.9-78), FC driver used is the file qlafc-linux-8.02.23-3-install.tar downloaded from the QLogic website. On this server is an Oracle database running (11.1.0.6). Files for the Oracle database are located in mountpoint /u02. The SAN is an iQStor 2880. Since several weeks we suddenly have problems with the Oracle database after a reboot of the server. After a reboot the mountpoint /u02 is readable and writable (tested by creating, opening and removing files).
However, when we try to start the database we get an error which give you the idea that the database is corrupt. The Oracle error is quite a general error. After doing a lot of testing we found out that if we unmount /u02 and mount it again (using mount -a so it reads the /etc/fstab), the database can be started after all. So the database is not corrupt but for some weird reason we have to remount /u02 first before the Oracle database can use it. We don't know if it's a linux issue, fibre issue, san issue or an oracle issue.
I'm trying to configure unixODBC on Linux rehat EL 5 32 bit to connect to an Oracle 10g database server. But when I retest the connection after the configuration then The error occurs:
# isql -v oralab4_dns vonphot vonphoto isql: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libreadline.so.3: undefined symbol: PC
I have searched on Google.com for 2 days but I can't resolve the problem.
I am using redhat linux 5. I am trying to install oracle 10g of linux version. When I click setup.exe from first CD. It says 'couldn't display /media/mydisc/setup.exe".
I am trying to install Redhat linux 4.0 Enterprise edition in my system. The system starts booting from CD-ROM and starts installation. It prompts for language selection(By default English) and then key board type ( By default US type). After this it is prompting to select the drivers with the following options.
" SELECT DRIVERS", "CHOOSE DRIVERS FROM LOCATION", "BACK". Why it is prompting for drivers?. what type of drivers it is looking for? what is the solution? My system mother board type is Intel 80865.
My DataBase Teacher wants us to install SQL 2008 cause on 3 days i gotta practice for the big test But the requirements are a ton "Visual Basic 2008 with service pack 1 & IIS" but thats just a tiny part of the problem.! My Windows 7 crashed.! So iam thinking can linux oracle be the answer of my ugly problems.?!Can SQL 2008 open database made from linux Oracle?
Having been a long-time Linux supporter, it was a no-brainer for me to push Linux as the OS when it was time to move my company's website(s) from an external host to an internal server. My company ponied up the bucks for an HP Proliant DL180 G5 server (this was about a year ago) upon which I installed Slackware 12.1 (I kinda default to Slackware, although in the past I've also used RedHat on the server and openSUSE on the desktop).
Well, it's now time to upgrade the OS on the server. Perhaps I'm a little late to the game on this, but I just recently found out about Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5. Bad Oracle ju-ju aside, it looked to be a very good and stable server distro, especially when you consider the availability of Oracle support for it. So I've since installed OEL to a non-production server and have been testing it out.It looks to be a good match for my needs.
However, since installing OEL on my test server I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 on my home desktop (a 1.86ghz Intel Core 2 Duo HP xw4400 workstation) and in a VirtualBox VM on my work desktop (a 3.2ghz Intel Core i3 iMac) and... holy crap, it's the best desktop Linux I've ever had the pleasure of using. It will certainly replace Slackware as my default "go-to" Linux distro. Which has made me wonder about the Ubuntu Server offering and if it might not be a better fit for my webserver in the same way that Ubuntu Desktop is a better fit for my workstation.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to pull down another server distro, install it, and test it unless I'm reasonably certain that it's going to give OEL a run for its money. So I turn to the forums and the knowledge of the users who frequent them: is Ubuntu Server a strong enough contender to OEL that I should take a more serious look at it? Or, like I'm hearing about the latest Ubuntu Netbook edition, would it not be worth my time if I'm happy with OEL so far?
I want to create redhat cluster on(vmware) OS Redhat Enterprise Server 5.5 Install Luci on node1 Install ricci on node2 Install ricci on node3

My OEL5 system is using Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN) for updates. I would like to stop using ULN and use something like Centos or Fedora instead. Any recommendations on how I can do this
I just installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.x on my laptop from an iso file. But I cannot browse internet from firefox (tried to connect internet from a wire connection), and cannot ping a website.

I am trying to install guest additions on Oracle Enterprise Linux Update 5. Whenever I try to the run VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run script I get the following problem:
erifying archive integrity. All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 2.0.0 Guest Additions for Linux installation. VirtualBox 3.0.6 Guest Additions installation install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 2.6.18-164.el5PAE Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing. correct these problems and try again. I also tried yum install using the following commands without any luck:
yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers-`uname -r` Following are the package information of my kernel-devel and headers: > rpm -q kernel-devel kernel-devel-2.6.18-164.el5 > rpm -q kernel-headers kernel-headers-2.6.18-164.el5
I have been spending a couple of hours already on how to fix this but I still couldnt get to install this.
I have several hosts running either TinyCore or Oracle Enterprise Linux that are using DHCP to get their IP addresses and other network configuration.I'd like to use DHCP to pass in some other information, but I don't know how to get DHCP options, including custom options, in a CLI script.
I am wanting to purchase a desktop or workstation to run Oracle 11g and E-Business suite -- Does Dell have Redhat OS and will a desktop or workstation be the best setup
