I need to run multiple httpd daemon. I have multiple ip's assigned on one interface and i want to run multiple websites on these ip's,
And i need to run multiple apache daemons for this. How can i do that
I've added httpd to runlevels 2-5 using chkconfig, and also double checked it using ntsysv, but it still won't run on startup, even though it works just fine when started manually (using "sudo service httpd start").The results of "chkconfig --list httpd" show it is on for levels 2-5, and I've confirmed the current runlevel to be 3. I've found no errors in the logs (neither Apache's nor the system's), but maybe I'm looking at them wrong...My machine is a VPS (on VMWare) running CentOS 5.5 32bit. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been scanning the apache2 docs for the past few days and have not come up with an answer my following issue:
In my httpd.conf file, at the very end, I have the line
Include conf/vhosts/vhost_*.conf
However, when I run apache checkconfig or try to start apache, it gives me the error:
httpd: Syntax error on line 993 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/vhost_1.conf: Permission denied
It appears as if the Include line is correct - in terms of it grabbing the first virtual host conf file. However, I'm confused on the permissions. the /etc/httpd folder is owned by root:root, as are the subfolders. As a test, I chown'd the conf/vhost folder combination and all the vhost files to apache:apache to see if that made a difference, and it appeared to make no difference at all. The log files don't contain anything (assumed because apache isn't starting). If I place the contents of the vhosts in a singular vhosts.conf it works - with the permissions set to root:root. I'd like to avoid having to use one vhosts conf for the configuration I'm trying to achieve - as it would make my life a lot easier.
We are using this url on our testing box and this ip is reverse proxy IP ( 10.192.64.52)
Without reverse proxy:- URL is working fine.

But with reverse proxy its putting escape [%25] in between %3a
[url]
Is it possible to write a rewrite rule to bypass escape [NE] for this particular URL?

I recently inherited a server that I'm now looking after, and when browsing the running processes I came across a number of processes labelled:"/usr/local/apache-2.2.6/bin/.libs/lt-httpd -k start"
At any one time there are between 10 and 15 of them running.Googling the issue has been surprisingly unhelpful... can anybody even tell me what this process is, much less what sort of issue might result in multiple running copies? I'm running Debian Etch (release 4.0).
I have a test server on which I'd like to run up to 30 separate instances of a program as daemons, each running on a different IP address bound to the server. I've created a init script that takes an additional command line parameter - the last octet of the IP address. For example:

This would run instances of the program on IP addresses 192.168.1.40 and 192.168.1.41 respectively. But it's looking like this approach isn't doable if I wish to have any or all of these run at startup, as the links in the rcN.d directories can only link to the init script, not pass a parameter.
I was wondering why avahi runs under multiple processes. So far it running on tow exposed network ports.

I have just configured CentOS server my new office. This is the first time I am using CentOS.
Whenever I am trying to change the webroot of the httpd server, it usually say "directory doesn't exist". whereas which can't be the case as it is home directory of the user.
To achieve this, what Do I need to do?
The second issue, I am facing that whenever I am adding new directories to public_html folder, it is not accessible. as the error page 404 is shown. I have changed the permissions to 0705 and ownership is also transferred to other user. What else is required to make new directories accessible by the web?

I would like to setup 2 linux machine each with two ethernet cards, and need to connect to two subnet e.g. 192.168.*.* and 10.0.*.* . If one linux machine out of order, the other will take over all the services(1 httpd and two named(192.168.*.1 and 10.0.0.1 as server ip). I'm running Mandriva 2010.0 as a web server, i had 2 HDD in the erver. i dedicate 1 HDD just for LOGS and system backup (160 GB). i would like to change the log destionation directory from /var/log/httpd (defaults) into /backup/log/httpd how can i do that.? coz i couldn,t find the configuration in the webmin. that log would be useful for webalizer/awffull statistic in several days ahead.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my web server. We are running RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 with Apache 2.0 and Tomcat 5.5. The situation has arisen that the httpd sessions never terminate. New connections continue and continue to be created and never die. I have restarted the apache services to reset the connection and have even rebooted the server, however, to no avail. Yes, that does the trick of getting the web sites operational, however, this is not a solution.
I have searched and searched here, www.google.com/linux to no avail. I have looked through the apache.org bug tracker and can't find anything like what I am experiencing. This happened 6 months ago and I got lucky and it stopped, however, the situation has resurfaced. I have reviewed the logs and found nothing that provides any insight.
During the business day, the number of httpd connections continue to grow and I decided to let it see how high it would get before the web sites would crash. That magical number is 203. Now that it is later in the evening and about 2 hours since I restarted the httpd services, I now only have 59 connections. However, I'm fairly certain based upon the traffic on these 2 websites, that in the evening, there aren't many connections after 2000 hours.
I neded to make some changes to the httpd.conf file. Afterwards I tried restarting,but it won't restart.It's saying port 80 is already in use. after checking via lsof -i :80 I get this result:

When I do " ps aux | grep apache " I can see that apache2 is running. But when I do the same thing for http or httpd there is nothing. I looked for this question in the forums but couldn't find it. I probably don't know just what to look for.I'm using the new Debian Squeeze, and was fooling around heavily with new software installations and modifications, and just noticed all of a sudden that I couldn't get on the internet - so I know I did something but don't know what.I can plug in a thumb drive with a bitnami joomla stack on it and run, " ~/tmp/joomla-1.6.0-0/./ctlscript.sh start "and that gets things going for the joomla stuff (apache, http, mysql, php), but that stuff is pretty self contained and does not effect the browser's attempt to reach the web.

The httpd processes stuck it almost everyday and I can't understand why... I fix it via "killall -9 httpd" and then "service httpd start". code...
I am using qmail in my office. I am noticing this for more than a month. It is my daily routine to check the cpu utilization using top command and by using top different processes can be viewed. the apache process after 1 or 2 days shows cpu utilization of 100%. There is no affect on the server whatsoever of 100% because mail server has 2 processors of 4 core, i think so that may be the reason. Can any one explain why is this happening. What i do after that is i restart the httpd process and cpu utilization comes to normal. What are the reasons behind this and how to solve this permanently.

i am running cent 5.1 and would like to upgrade httpd v.2.2.3 to the latest 2.2.11 version provided by apache to resolve some ajp errors i am experiencing.
I searched but did not find any rpms for cent nor did i find any instructions on how to do this.
