I neded to make some changes to the httpd.conf file. Afterwards I tried restarting,but it won't restart.It's saying port 80 is already in use. after checking via lsof -i :80 I get this result:

View 10 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I upgraded my old fedora 10 server to Fedora 11 with a netinstall CD, but now service httpd restart is broken. I already had to delete the old config file and reinstall apache, but now I can't restart it. I can kill it and then start it manually, but it never stops the running instance and fails to bind the port. I know it's because /var/run/httpd/htpd.pid is in the wrong place, which would be /var/run/httpd.pid, but do I have to make a symlink every time I want to restart it? I edited all the config files to point to the right place, but the system does not honor them. What do I do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using CentOS 5.6 with Apache 2.2.17. The Apache was compiled from source using RPM build to comply with PCI requirements. Also Plesk 9.3 is used as a control panel, but other than the config files the Apache is pretty standard. When the httpd is started, there are no errors reported in /var/log/messages or in the error_log, and the httpd starts, shows up in ps and the pid file exists in /var/run/httpd.pid.
However when you check the status 'service httpd status' you get 'httpd dead but subsys locked'. You can add websites normally, and the proper config files are generated so I am pretty sure this isn't a control panel issue as I have other servers running the same control panel and Apache 2.2.16 compiled and installed the same way as the 2.2.17 and there are no problems.

I had worked around and forgotten about this some time ago. The problem arose because the most recent httpd update installed proxy_ajp.conf into /etc/httpd/conf.d which was then loaded on restart The trouble is I do not use mod_proxy (I think just to try and get a lean and mean web server) and proxy_ajp.conf does not check if mod_proxy is loaded before it tries to LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so
Hence httpd fails to restart. RedHats's bug tracker lists this as an old issue (which was never resolved) [URL] My workaround was to rename proxy_ajp.conf to proxy_ajp.conf.orig so that httpd would start up correctly. However any updates simply reinstall proxy_ajp.conf and so IMO the problem needs to be resolved at source. how to ensure that httpd updates do not bite me in the future? Do I really have to run mod_proxy whether or not I need it?
I need to change the some configuration in httpd.conf file with out affect any current status of http service.

We are developing applications in both php & java, for java we are using apache tomcat as server (port number 8080) & for php we are using apache as server (port 80). Php applications are uploaded in the server and giving the link to our clients like localhost.com/chrome. Now we are planning to give the java based application for testing purpose to clients & can give the application link to client as localhost.com:8080/mozilla. Is it is possible to change the link localhost.com:8080/mozilla to localhost.com/mozilla with out changing the portnumber of apache tomcat server & without interrupting the php applications, that means our clients can access php application as localhost.com/chrome & java application as localhost.com/mozilla in the same server at the same time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to Linux and I am trying to set up a mail server using postfix. I have done all the configurations(hopefully correct) and all the test seems to work except 2 things.
1) Postfix is running but when I try to restart the service it always fails. I checked the /var/log folder and there are no error messages.
2) When I try sending e-mails using outlook, outlook fails to connect to my server.
I am wondering if I have done the configurations properly. I am a little confused in regards to hostname and domain name. When I do a hostname on the terminal I see the hostname that I gave my server. When I do the domainname command however, domain is none. Is it necessary to have a domain to configure postfix? I have myhostname = my.hostname.com what should my domainname = to if there is none. If I do require a domain name how to I create one? I need to be able to access e-mail from external clients.
I'm running VNC Server on CentOS5 on a brand new installation, this is for some of my students to use specific software via VNC on their machines from home that they otherwise don't have access to on their Windows machines. This has been working fine on our previous server for a few years but the hardware is now outdated so I have upgraded and put a fresh install of CentOS 5 on. This works fine for about 24 hours and then eventually one of the session ends up freezing where the user then can see everything on their session, the cursor can move but they cant click a single thing.

I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).

I got the out put below like I wait 5 to 10 min but the proses will going on I killed the process I tried to start the service but I got same error. When I restarted my O/S the problem is rectified but every 10 to 15 days same problem I am getting.

I have reviewed the HowTo wiki on Setting up an SSL secured Webserver with CentOS [URL], and have successfully set up my server.
We are using the conditional <IfDefine SSL> tags around the <VirtualHost _default_:443> section. I wanted to do this because we are deploying a standard <VirtualHost> section that is appended to the httpd.conf file for several Apache versions on several OS's, and this makes maintenance much easier. Sometimes the server will be configured with SSL support, and sometimes not, depending on certain functions of our application that the end user will require and determine. Our application then determines which mode the server should be run in depending on these functions, what OS is being run, what version of Apache is being run, etc, and starts the httpd server in the appropriate mode. For CentOS 5 with Apache 2.2, if the application indicates SSL is required (and we expect the server to be configured appropriately), then we do the following:
/usr/sbin/apachectl -D SSL -k start
F15 x86_64
I can start this from the command line and it shows no errors.
httpd -t --- syntax ok.
no entry in the httpd error logs.
chkconfig reports it as on.
service --status-all shows this --

The httpd.service file does not exist on the system. Where can I get a copy?
I configured httpd.conf. With ip, port 80 and specified the document path correctly. But service httpd restart shows httpd stop fail, httpd start fail.

We are using this url on our testing box and this ip is reverse proxy IP ( 10.192.64.52)
Without reverse proxy:- URL is working fine.

Is it possible to write a rewrite rule to bypass escape [NE] for this particular URL?
