View 3 RepliesI have a dedicated server with Fasthosts. It's currently running Ubuntu Server 8.10 and I want to update it to 10.04.
The only issue I have so far is it runs Matrix Server Appliance 2.0-38
Does anyone know if this will be affected by the upgrade in a bad way?
I have had no luck finding a site for Matrix or any other information.
For the upgrade itself, I was hoping to run do-release-upgrade.
I am running 2 Ubuntu servers, one as UEC frontend and the other as UEC node. I started, last night, the server upgrade on the frontend. As it promised to take several hours I left it alone to proceed through the night. This morning it was waiting on a prompt which, by virtue of hitting esc to relight the monitor, it continued upgrading packages. At some point subsequent to that it paused on a discrepancy between the eucalyptus.conf file the install wanted to save and the eucalyptus.conf file that existed. I reviewed the deltas and determined that the current, as it existed, would suffice. I received 3 more messages on the console:
Installing new version of config file /etc/init/eucalyptus-network.conf. Installing new version of config file /etc/init/eucalyptus-conf...
eucalyptus start/running process 15290
Then no further console messages nor apparent disk or cpu activity
I can shell into the machine and see the following:
Code:
root 7077 6784 0 Apr29 tty1 00:00:33 /usr/bin/python /tmp/update-manager-0r8nH5/natty --mode=server --frontend=DistUpgradeViewText

I've just upgraded by dedicated server with OVH from 9.04 to 10.04 and it now refuses to boot with the error "kernel panic unable to mount rootfs on unknown block 2,0" With OVH you must use their custom kernel, but this has been installed and seems to boot thus far, but fails at above. OVH also recommend adding a dev line to fstab, which I've done: [URL] I'm now at a loss as what to do, as it seems the kernel can't see the hard drives, yet when I boot up in rescue mode, I can mount all the drives fine.

I use Centos 5.5 and I want to upgrade to PHP 5.2 I read a lot on Google about the upgrade version and I realized right to change the sources of the YUM to development environment
I use in production and I can not move the development environment.
well, I have a redhat 9 server. it has a separate hdd mounted as /backup where I always used to take the backup tar files. Now I am planning to upgrade it to CentOS 5.5 Easy job. except that I want to keep the hdd same way for backup. And ofcourse without loosing any of my existing data.
Means, the current hdd i want to again use with keeping the data because I have to restore the whole thing just from that HDD and again that will be used for the backup also like before...
so advice on adding a new HDD without loosing data. And opps, the current backup HDD is accessible through /backup and I want to keep that too... but it is not a symbolic link... here is my current /etc/fstab
Code:
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/backup /backup ext3 defaults 1 2
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0

I upgraded the samba on Ubuntu Server 8.04 to 3.5.2 so Windows 7 would be able to log into the domain. Now Samba isn't using ACL permissions and I can't alter the ACL with the Windows security dialog. All the permissions still show correctly on the server. Did something change with Samba 3.5.2? How to get the ACL to work with Samba 3.4.3 or newer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedUpgraded my Debian server over the weekend - caught up on all the updates since January. One of them was Spamassassin, which was working fine before (3.2.5). After the upgrade to 3.3.1, it's NOT using Bayes anymore - and I'm now finding 200+ messages for male-enhancement/ED meds, knockoffs of expensive watches and no-study graduate degrees in my Inbox that previously would have gone to /dev/null. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a perfectly functional Samba file and print server. I will be adding several Window 2008 servers to serve as terminal server hosts running in virtual machines. I would like to convert my Samba server to a PDC (Primary Domain Controller) for these terminal servers to use. And leave everyone else as a work group (the current situation). I'd like to
1) use /etc/password and /etc/samba/smbpasswd as the source of the user accounts
2) limit what users the terminal servers can see based on a particular group (/etc/group)
So far I have tried the example howto's on the samba site and wound up having to restore /etc/nsswitch.conf in rescue mode.
I need to do this to pass PCI compliance tests, I know it's not necessarily the best thing to do but it has to be done.
How would I go about compiling this version as it's not on the official repo?

I'm trying to update an Ubuntu Server install to 10.04. I believe something went wrong when I upgraded it from 8.10 to 9.10 in the past. Currently /etc/apt/sources.list would indicate the system is running 9.10, but /etc/issue says 8.10, as does lsb_release -a.
apt-get update and apt-get upgrade show everything is up to date. When I do a do-release-upgrade it tells me that there are no upgrades available.
I should have caught this during the upgrade, I saw the potential problem but failed to write it down. All my applications served by Tomcat fail to load. Catalina logs show the following error for each app. Error deploying configuration descriptor msgboard.xml The complete error for an individual application is
[Code]...
Again, during the upgrade a warning popped up that each app would need to be spelled out in some configuration file SOMEWHERE because of a change in security! Would someone be so kind as to direct me as to where and how this would be accomplished. I apologizes for not being able to find this out on my own but have looked and can't find it. I'm pretty sure anyone proficient with Tomcat on Linux will know what and where these changes need to be made. Or if anyone knows if and where there is a log of all communication during the upgrade I might be able to figure this out on my own. Is there such a log kept during an upgrade? Also if this question would be more appropriate in the Server Platforms forum I will do that.
I can install 6.06 desktop, but would like to move to a 8.04 server. I know I can do an upgrade from 6.06 desktop to 8.04 desktop, but how about to server? cdrom issues and heartache associated with other means of alternate iso installs are beating me up.

I updated the gutenprint drivers to 5.2.5 on the mac.I've uninstalled CUPS 1.4.3, reinstalled it, deleted the printer, added it again.This is the error I get in the mac when I try to print:Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME)The print job says its printing, never does, and eventually shows its paused
