Server :: Samba Upgrade To 3.5.2 - Getting ACL To Work

I upgraded the samba on Ubuntu Server 8.04 to 3.5.2 so Windows 7 would be able to log into the domain. Now Samba isn't using ACL permissions and I can't alter the ACL with the Windows security dialog. All the permissions still show correctly on the server. Did something change with Samba 3.5.2? How to get the ACL to work with Samba 3.4.3 or newer?

CentOS 5 Server :: How To Upgrade Samba To PDC

Mar 25, 2009

I have a perfectly functional Samba file and print server. I will be adding several Window 2008 servers to serve as terminal server hosts running in virtual machines. I would like to convert my Samba server to a PDC (Primary Domain Controller) for these terminal servers to use. And leave everyone else as a work group (the current situation). I'd like to

1) use /etc/password and /etc/samba/smbpasswd as the source of the user accounts

2) limit what users the terminal servers can see based on a particular group (/etc/group)

So far I have tried the example howto's on the samba site and wound up having to restore /etc/nsswitch.conf in rescue mode.

Debian Configuration :: Samba - Cannot Access Server After Upgrade

Mar 12, 2016

Following yesterday's and then today's upgrade of my Debian 8 32-bit system (among other things to samba 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2 (yesterday: ...deb8u1)) I cannot connect my Mint 17.3 laptop to the server anymore. Were there any changes to smb.conf regarding authentication or other aspects that might lead to this problem? I am enclosing part of my smb.conf. By the way - I also have trouble using ssh to connect to the Debian machine, such as the ssh-command taking "for ever" and then getting the message "Write failed: Broken pipe" when entering an ls-command on the command line.

Debian :: Cannot Join Server To AD With Samba After Upgrade To Squeeze

Sep 15, 2010

A very strange thing happened to me today after upgrading a Lenny server to Squeeze. All seems to be working great except for the fact that I cannot join the server to our domain (made a work copy of the virtual machine holding Debian, upgraded that, renamed and changed IP).

The problem I'm having is related to Samba as far as I can tell. On the Lenny server(s) I have the 'net' command to join a server to a domain but not on the upgraded version (Squeeze). It just says command not found and there's indeed no 'net' in /usr/bin where it's supposed to be.

I imagine that something went wrong upgrading Samba although the rest works, the daemons are running, kerberos works (kinit, klist), and so on, I only miss the net command.

Is there a way to install that separately or which package do I have to reinstall (samba-common, sambafs, ...)?

I have other servers (clean install and upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze) that do have the command in /usr/bin. Can I just copy it over from one to another or do I have to remove and reinstall Samba all together?

Fedora :: Cannot Connect To Samba Shares After FC12 Upgrade

Dec 6, 2009

After upgrading to FC12 from FC10 the 3 samba shares on the box cannot be connected to from either Windows-7 or Windows Server 2003R2. Both were working with FC10 just fine.

It is local authentication to the box not LDAP etc. Files below and error msg:

attempting to connect to say \saturngeorgek gets an error in a windows popup with Unknown username or bad password yet I'm certain of the ID & password as I can ssh in with it from Windows-7

In 2003 I see "Multiple connections to the same server or shared resource by the same user using more than one name are not allowed disconnect all previous connections and tr again."

In neither case do I have any connections to the saturn server that I can see using net use from either box.

OpenSUSE Network :: 10.3 To 11.1 Upgrade Breaks GID Resolution In Samba?

Feb 8, 2010

I've just upgraded my main file server from 10.3 to 11.1 by DVD (I did *not* have a chance to do a zypper up after, so it's the base 11.1 install), and in upgrading my Samba from 3.0.23b to 3.2.4, I seem to have broken winbind resolution of group names. wbinfo -g shows all the right group name entries, and getent group shows that they map to the proper GID numbers... it's just that ls isn't seeing them: I get domain usernames, but the group column is 5 digit numeric GIDs in my defined range. I infer that something broke PAM, but I'm not enough of a PAM jockey to know what. I don't have a pam.d/winbind, but I'm not clear that I'm supposed to. I see that the four pam.d/common-* files were touched, but their contents are the same as the older ones I have.

Ubuntu Servers :: Accessing SAMBA Shares Since Upgrade?

May 27, 2010

provide support for a small business that uses Windows machines to access files stored on an Ubuntu server which has just been upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04 (32 bit version). Before the upgrade the users accessed their share by this batch file:

Code:

net use x: \servernamesharename /user:username

This would then prompt the user for his or her password which they would enter to allow them access to the share.Since upgrading to 10.04, the user gets a "system error 58" stating "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation"If the batch file command is changed to:

Code:

net use x: \servernamesharename

The same error message is given. The only work around I have found is to modify the file to read:

Code:

net use x: \servernamesharename /user:username password

This is not ideal at all as it makes the password protection useless. When I performed the upgrade I left the smb.conf unchanged. The smb.conf file is:

Code:

CentOS 5 :: SAMBA Upgrade With Yum Not Finding The Latest Version?

Jun 14, 2010

I have CentOS 5.5 installed on my Dell D600. This release includes SAMBA 3.0.
Question: Is there a way to use yum to upgrade / install the latest version of SAMBA (3.5.3)?

A "yum search samba" shows there is only the "samba3x" release available - which is SAMBA 3.0

I've downloaded the SAMBA3-3.5.3-43.el5.i386.rpm package for Cent OS 5 from the SAMBA.org site, but when I try to install it, it fails due to package dependencies.

Short of downloading the source and compiling it myself, is there a better method to get the latest version of SAMBA installed on my system?

Debian Configuration :: Samba Denies Login After Upgrade To Jessie

Code: Select all[global]
   workgroup = WORKGROUP
   dns proxy = no
   bind interfaces only = no
   log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
   max log size = 1000
   syslog = 0

With smbclient logs as follows:
Code: Select allsmbclient -L 192...

Enter user's password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL

If I provide a wrong password, it raises NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE, also if retry with the correct password.

Not sure about what resolved the issue. But after I purged samba, reconfigured it, added the users AND set www-data's shell to bash again (which was changed during the update), it now seems to work
