CentOS 5 Server :: Install Or Upgrade PHP 5.1 To PHP 5.2 In 5.6?
Apr 16, 2011I think CentOS 5.6 installs PHP 5.1 by default right? How do I upgrade PHP 5.1 to 5.2 or even 5.3 if possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Centos 5.5 and I want to upgrade to PHP 5.2 I read a lot on Google about the upgrade version and I realized right to change the sources of the YUM to development environment
I use in production and I can not move the development environment.
I am running yum update and it thinks 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 is the latest kernel, even though its really 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5
Code:
[localdomain ~]# uname -a
Linux localdomain 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 #1 SMP Thu May 7 10:39:21 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I have a perfectly functional Samba file and print server. I will be adding several Window 2008 servers to serve as terminal server hosts running in virtual machines. I would like to convert my Samba server to a PDC (Primary Domain Controller) for these terminal servers to use. And leave everyone else as a work group (the current situation). I'd like to
1) use /etc/password and /etc/samba/smbpasswd as the source of the user accounts
2) limit what users the terminal servers can see based on a particular group (/etc/group)
So far I have tried the example howto's on the samba site and wound up having to restore /etc/nsswitch.conf in rescue mode.
I need to do this to pass PCI compliance tests, I know it's not necessarily the best thing to do but it has to be done.
How would I go about compiling this version as it's not on the official repo?
After upgrading to CentOS 5.3 my sendmail will no longer deliver messages using a program in my /etc/smrsh. It fails with the message "unknown mailer error 1". This program was working perfectly before I did the upgrade using yum. Here is the list of packages that were upgraded. Does anything jump out as being the source of the issue? I don't believe that sendmail itself was upgraded:
Packages Installed:
dbus-libs - 1.1.2-12.el5.x86_64
libselinux-utils - 1.33.4-5.1.el5.x86_64
Packages Updated:
initscripts - 8.45.25-1.el5.centos.x86_64

I performed a system update yesterday to CentOS version 5.4. Now I cannot get vmware to start. I get the error "VMware Server is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl." I tried running vmware-config but that did not resolve the issue. I saw the bug related to 2.0.x (after the update), but that does not seem to apply to 1.0.9.

I am running CentOS 5.5 Final on my VPS and IO am using lighttpd for a webserver. I am trying to find a way to upgrade this to the latest version using Yum.I want to find a repository that will allow me to upgrade to lighttpd-1.4.26-2.el5 with the required dependencies. I would also like to do the same for LUA 5.1.4.I have found older versions of lighttpd but not the latest in an RPM / Yum installable version. I have found tarballs and binary version but I am of the understanding that I should use yum to manage my packages to keep the system neat and easy to upgrade / remove etc. in future.
Can anyone advise me as to where I can find these programs and how I would connect to the right repository to get them.
How does yum determine to "upgrade" an rpm verses "install" (and possibly delete) a package when performing a yum update? I have read documentation that yum uses the "Obsolete" and "Conflicts" tags within the rpm to determine whether to upgrade or install a new rpm. Is this correct and complete? I recall from somewhere kernel rpms should always be installed and never upgraded. How does yum determine that kernel rpms need to be installed using rpm -i as opposed to rpm -U? I have scanned a kernel spec file looking for clues without any luck.

IIm running several Webservers on CentOS 5.2. Due to the Hosting-Platform I use, it is recommended that there will not be CentOS 5.3-Updates installed. So I searched the net a lot now but didn't find a propper solution. Is there a way to tell yum only install patches and updates for version 5.2 and not to upgrade to 5.3?

I have an i5 Thinkpad running Windows 7 64-bit. VT is enabled in the BIOS. I have installed vmware server v 2.0.2 but am unable to install Centos 5.5 x86_64 as a guest OS. The steps that I followed are as follows:1. Created a new VM, specifying RHEL 5 64-bit as the intended guest OS (per vmware documentation - Centos is not available as a selection2. Downloaded all 8 iso files for Centos v5.5 64-bit3. Modified the CD/DVD drive to 'connect at power' and use an iso with the path pointing to the x86_64 iso 1 of 8When I power up the VM, the console window displays 'ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin' and nothing else. The installation splash screen never appears. As a test, I downloaded the first of 7 iso files for the 32-bit version of Centos 5.5 and pointed the CD/DVD drive to that iso. In that case, the installation starts as expected. I would really like to get the 64-bit version installed and running.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat i want to be able to do is create a custom kickstart for my centOS 5 server. I want to create a bootable cd that I can pop in my server and basically walk away for 45 minutes and I come back and its fully installed. All the directions I have read so far tell me that I have to create a seperate ks.cfg and then I need my original centos cd to get it booted. Then the cd will ask for where the ks.cfg file is and I have to type the location. I just want to pop the CD in and type in linux_clean or something and have it perform a custom install based on the information and specification in my ks.cfg. How can I go about doing this?
