Sep 17, 2009I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.
Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

Feb 2, 2011I try to config my apache server to list all my files: c/c++, php, java files, like the txt file on my server,
e.g /var/www/mydomain/pub
i want to dump all my c/c++, php, java file under the pub directory and I can access it from my domain name,
if I dump txt file, I have no problem to view it, but when I dump c/c++ or php files under pub directory, then I can't view it like regular txt file,
Q: is there anyway I can configure my apache server to view all the c/C++, php, java file as like txt file?

I am able to connect to my VPN server using both windows 7 and Ubuntu desktop just fine, and using wireshark verify that all packets are being compressed and sent through the VPN tunnel.
Many sites work but there are several that will not load while using the VPN, one of them is ubuntu forums also sourceforge.
I can ping the servers while connected but the websites just will not load, and time out. The second I disconnect from the VPN they load instantly.

Jul 8, 2011I have been wanting to switch from my routers VPN to my headless linux box VPN. I have everything setup in the PPTP and then forwarded the ports to it. Heres the kicker. My APPLE Iphone connects to the VPN without a problem at all. Views Intranet pages etc.
My Windoz XP is kicking and screaming and one error after another. This is my setup on XP: I entered Ip Entered exact same credentials as used for connecting with my iphone turned off "use gateway on remote network" Changed type to PPTP VPN connecting my xp machine to this PPTP server on linux?

Feb 21, 2011everything works fine, clients can connect to the vpn server with no problems and they can ping local machines! but no internet access through the vpn connection unless i uncheck the default gateway option on my client machine which is not what i want. I want my clients to get my server's ip address. my server is behind a router (router's ip : 192.168.0.1 | server's local ip: 192.168.0.100) so i used localip 192.168.0.100 & remoteip 192.168.0.234-238 in pptpd.conf. it think there is something wrong with routing or firewall rules, because it seems that the DNS resolution works .. when i try to browse a website my browser says "Waiting for xxxxx.com..." and it stays on that stage forever ! the funny part is that google.com works fine (don't know how).
p.s :
* I have already opened the port in on my router. I even tried it locally to make sure that the router is not the problem here. * already added ms-dns 208.67.222.222 / ms-dns 208.67.220.220 to pptpd-options. (found another guide that suggested to do this, before adding these two lines even dns resolution was not working.)

CentOS 5 Server :: DNS Caching Server Config?
Dec 17, 2010I have a Bind DNS caching-only server setup that is working. I am bringing up a new AD domain controller that will also be a DNS server for that AD but I don't want it responding to any DNS queries except those that are AD related.So, my goal is to leave this caching server as the primary DNS server for stations on the network and have it forward requests for the AD domain to the domain controller.My understanding is that I just need a forward zone for that domain pointing to the domain controller. However it does not seem to be working.So that leaves me to think that my caching server is not forwarding properly.
For example, this AD is going to have a naming convention of hostname.mydomain.local.If I do an nslookup and specify the domain controller's IP address as the server, I can query addresses that exist in DNS on that server, such as dc1.mydomain.local.However, queries to my caching server times out (I get a response from the caching server if I query mydomain.local but none of the objects in that domain) Here is my named.conf file:

Networking :: IPtables - Allow PPTP Server To Access Internet
Jan 24, 2010I'm running an own PPTP Server, but I can't get it to access the internet. All my PCs at home run in the 192.168.0.0/24 net, the PPTP Server has local IP192.168.0.5 and remote IP 192.168.0.80-99. The router to the internet is at 192.168.0.1, and the IP of eth0 on the machine where the pptpd runs is 192.168.0.4. I want to be able to connect to the internet trough that VPN and access my local LAN servers (which works fine so far). I can ping internet and local IPs successfully, but can not access them with a browser, or connect to them in any other way. I have 'accepted' all in/output and forwards.
I am running a Squid proxy on the same machine, and if I do:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -j REDIRECT -i ppp0 -s 192.168.0.0/24 -p tcp --dport 80 --to-port 3128
I can access the internet through Squid, but of course Jabber/ICQ etc. Won't work then because it just refers port 80. But I want the PPTP Clients to connect to the internet directly, if I don't use that rule it's not possible to load any pages. But pinging works all the time. DNS is also working fine, but I can't even access webpages via IP directly. How can I allow the PPTP IPs 192.168.0.80-99 to get direct access to the Internet with Iptables?

May 10, 2010I am trying to connect to a windows 2000 VPN server at work, with my current settings in DOES connect to the VPN and i can ping the domain server which is 10.1.1.2 but the first issue is i cannot ping the other computers on the network(via hostnames) can't remember the ip address of the other machines . second issue is when the connection is established and i RDP into 10.1.1.2 ok great i am connected to the server but any interaction in the RDP session even moving the mouse on the screen kills the session and the VPN connection fails.

Apr 2, 2010recently i rent a xen vps intended to setup a PPTPD vpn server for me and my friends. so we can by-pass the great firewall in china and get back on ....., facebook and stuff. i have already setup the server and i can connect to it without any problem. but i still want to do some further configuration the server:
1. i want to limit the bandwidth to 400k/s per connection.
2. i also want to limit the max connection per user a/c
i have some thoughts on the 2nd requirement. in the user configuration file of /etc/ppp/chap-secret, you can specify the range of ip the user can get, does it limit the max connection per user a/c? or they can connect anyway, just every now and then a box pop up says conflict in IP address?

Jul 16, 2010I'm not all fluent in apache, so bare with me. I inherited this environment months ago, and I am still learning the strangeness of things in it.Here are two of my config files on all my web servers:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't these files configure the same settings, and don't they conflict? And if the conflict, which file gets the final say? And if one file overrides the other, can I just remove the one that loses?
