CentOS 5 Server :: Change My Ssh Port From The Default 22

Feb 9, 2010

I want to change my ssh port from the default 22 to something else. I did the following: vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config; uncommented Port 22 and changed it to the desired port number. After that I run service sshd restart for the change to take an effect. Now, when I want to login into the new port I receive this message - Network error:Unable to route to host. When I change the port back to 22, I will be able to login again.

General :: SFTP Server Port Blocked On Uni Network / Need To Change Listening Port

Oct 21, 2010

VERY new to linux, erm but I have an issue that needs solving!I recently moved to university, where their network blocks sftp port 22, this means that I cannot connect to my FTP server which is running a version of linux. Now I've got this ftp server connected to a seedbox and it was created using the following walk through..Code:I have written this guide for a friend, but I though it would be useful for others as well.

There are several guides floating around, but I found that most always cock up in some way. This one is tried and tested to work on Debian Etch (on an OVH rps, but should apply to most servers). If there is a new stable release of rtorrent/libtorrent then I will update this guide to show you how to update it (without reinstalling the whole server).

At the bottom there are also instructions to install ftp access & some network monitoring software.Basically, I would really like someone to be able to construct the commands on how to change the listen port for sftp connection on linux or add another port to the list that Linux would use so that I could put in through putty.

Port 30000

I then

user@desktop$: ssh servername -p 30000
ssh: connect to host servername port 30000: Connection refused

What am I doing wrong? I've also tried completely restarting the computer.

Ubuntu Servers :: Change HTTP Port To Say 8080

Feb 8, 2011

I will be setting up a web server at my house. It will be a simple page for my family to keep in touch and maybe some other stuff. Here is the problem: I believe my ISP blocks port 80. So when setting up the firewall and it list the normal port 80 am I able to edit to say 8080? I have a ddns already setup for my router and I am waiting for an email back from DynDNS.com on setting up a new domain to forward to my already setup hostname. I just need to get everything redirected to another port beside 80.

Ubuntu :: Change VNC Server Listen Port?

Dec 30, 2010

I wish to use the VNC server built in to the Ubuntu to easily access it from other computers on my local network. I need to skew the VNC Server port off of the normal 5900 to something else because I am using VNC to access several computers (sometimes simultaneously) so each VNC server needs to be set with a different port #. At this point it is all local subnet connections with no incoming internet access and I am not worried about security.

Ubuntu Servers :: SSH Server - Connect To Server Via Port 443 I Get A Connection Refused Error?

Jan 7, 2011

I am merely trying to change the port for my ssh server. However it isn't changing.I edited my ssh_config file to:

Code:

# This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See
# ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for[code]...

When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server. To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Use The VPSs IP At A Particular Port To Load The Servers Web Pages?

Mar 4, 2010

I am running OpenVZ.I wanted to use the VPSs IP at a particular port to load the Servers Web Pages e.g. The IP 88.88.88.88 is the VPS IP and 77.77.77.77 is the servers main ip.My files are on the main server at /usr/local/pages/

I want to load the page from the URL: https://88.88.88.88:8888

These should load the files from the main server at /usr/local/pages/ Virtuozzo a OpenVZ panel does it. So how is this going to be possible ? Will DNAT do the trick : iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -d 88.88.88.88 --dport 8888 -i eth0 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.0.1:8888

Ubuntu Servers :: Backup Including System Files - Boot From Live Cd?

Apr 22, 2010

I am researching how to make an effective backup on Ubuntu Server. This server will have Vsftp, VPN, Samba stuff , many other added packages +many printers, many users + data. I know I can use tar for the data /u no problem. 1. I was testing tar on the /home directory on a few user directories. I then created a new directory and did a restore of the users directories on it. I noticed the /home/user owner and group were root. The files in each directory remained the same. This gave me concern. If I had a crash and had to restore these to a new HD. I would have to change these, what else would I need to change? 2. Since I have many config files, how do I back up them? I know I can do a dump, but then users shouldn't be on the system. The system files will change as they add users, printers, etc, and asking users to not work, is not really an option while dump is running. I thought I could do a tar on whole system. (cron late at night .. not as many users) Then in event of crash of HD.

1. Boot from live cd
2. format the new drive
3. tar back in the whole system

Will this work right? Is there something I am missing?

"If you are the website administrator: You may now add content to the directory /var/www/html/. Note that until you do so, people visiting your website will see this page and not your content. CentOS 5 Server :: Port Configuration - Being Blocked - Iptables And Connection

Jul 4, 2009

I have a fresh installation of CentOS 5 I'm using for a server, and I'm having issues with port configuration. I have iptables running, and it started with no /etc/sysconfig/iptables file. I added a few basic rules (port 53, port 10000 for webmin), saved the file, and restarted the service. I tried connecting to webmin, scanned ports, and traffic was blocked. I set iptables to allow all traffic and restarted the service, and it still showed basically every port as being blocked. It seems port 80 and port 22 work for some reason, even when I tell iptables to block all ports.

I'm not sure what's going on here. Iptables is reading the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file, and if I use lynx localhost:someport it responds as it should according to the file. However, if I try connecting by IP, it's like there's some other firewall or something running that does whatever it's configured to do.....
