I am a bit fuzzy about the usage of adduser script directives in the smb.conf. I pressume they give you the ability to add users directly from windows machines... or not? And how can I use them?

If you have a large httpd.conf you need to know this, but amazingly i cant find this documentation anywhere which i find pretty unbelieveable. I currently have a situation where i have an apache module that is being run before another module and i need to find out why.. in addtion to that i need have complete control of the configuration, so i need to find out in which order the different directives are being processed.

I've been asked to try and get the contents of this .htaccess file into the httpd.conf (or some appropriate include file) to improve performance.

In the file usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf I see that there are two VirtualHost sections that appear to be relevant for my domain (which I'll call mydomain.com). The first listens on port 80 and the second is on 443. Seems to me that my apache directives in .htaccess would belong in this section. In the first section I see this:

The problem with both of these is that the directory /usr/local/apache/conf/userdata does not exist, much less the full path to either of those files.
I've come across a really strange issue with one of my RHEL servers. The "free" command shows that 7019 MB of memory are actually in use by my system, but when summing up the actual usage (or even virtual usage like the example below) it doesn't add up - the sum is far less than what is reported by "free":

I need to know is there any way to record or tracking or make logging if when user samba delete files or folders i can know that, cause sometimeon samba server some users complain they lost files, though i have daily backup and i can restore their files, i just want to know if or maybe some other users in one group accidentally move or delete the files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to improve the functionality of my mouse in my installation of Ubuntu 10.10 desktp 64-bit running inside a VMware workstation VM running on a Windows 7 64-bit host. I stumbled upon some instructions suggesting changing a xorg.conf directive (specifically, change the mouse protocol from "imps/2" to "explorerps/2") which I'd like to try out. However there is no xorg.conf file in Ubuntu 10.10. I tried using Xorg -configure to generate the file and placing it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but it seems to make no effect. Using "xinput list" the mouse is still listed as imps/2 even after I changed the xorg.conf file and rebooted. It seems Ubuntu 10.10 ignores the xorg.conf file completely? If that's the case, is it possible to manually specify this setting that used to belong to xorg.conf at all?

1) I'm not sure which directory to put them in? What is good practice? Is /var/www/secure a good location so long as I restrict access to the secure directory?
2) I am told to edit the following in my ssl.conf file of apache2
SSLCertificateFile
SSLCertificateKeyFile
SSLCertificateChainFile
However, I cannot find this file, ssl.conf. Nor can I find the above directives in my main apache2.conf file. Where is the ssl.conf file? Or alternatively, could I just add the above directives to my apache2.conf file?
i know some UNIX commands and some centos/linux commands anyway i need help setting up my centos VPS. I recieved the server the today and i wax given a SSH login which i quickly figured out how to use however for many actions including opening SFTP i need to have a non root useraccount form which i have none, so i preceeded to create a new account(adduser username, passwd username) however now if i try to log into SSH, SFTP with the new account i get a message Access is Denied. I need some help and the company hosting the server seems to be pretty useless for actual support, i think they assume VPS owners to have a reasonable amount of linux knowledge.

I get an error when installing pulseaudio (and a few other packages). Looks like the install script can't find 'adduser':

Proftpd is installed and running fine on 8.04 server. I want to streamline the process of adding users. Adding a ftp user with USERADD fails (user is created but connection fails when trying to connect with ftp client).

I want to host all my music and videos for the most part on the server and then regardless what computer I'm using I could listen or watch. (Another question would be could I have itunes find my music on the server and play it).
But anyway, from people with home media servers, what kind of bandwidth usage do you go through a month? Comcast (ISP) limits me to 250GB and I'm thinking this is enough for moderate usage, I just want to make sure before I start the project.
I have got a nagios server running on my network, The configuration seems to be okay but each time there is a service alert notification, and an e-mail is sent to the contact group, Nagios continuously sends e-mail over and over again. Do anyone know of a way to set Nagios directives to only send one e-mail per alert without it flooding mail boxes.

I've had a stable system for a couple of years now, and it just ran out of space. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd been using Directadmin on my Debian 5.0 machine earlier . I had 1GB ram and a lot of memory was used up. Sometimes even the OS crashed as the programs couldn't allocate memory. I increased my RAM to 3GB but still the RAM usage sometimes just flow up to 1GB although normally DirectAdmin doesn't use more than 200MB . Restarting the server fixes the issue but then it climbs up again and comes down to a 200-400MB again by itself. Cached Memory was also being too much and sometimes even Swap Partition gets used up .Just to be sure that it's not the Bugged OS, today I installed the latest Debian 5.0.6 Net-inst on my machine . I allocated just 128MB of ram to it because it was just a testing machine. I installed it without the swap partition since I thought I will make a swap-file if it is required. I did not even update the OS rather I just installed Openssh-server and everything else was default as in Debian 5.0.6 . When server started, only 20MB ram was being used .
I just logged into my server afer about 5 hours and saw 112 MB ram being used out of which 91MB was cached. I haven't installed anything so why is this happening ?Why is this happening when I just installed the default Operating System and didn't even run an apt-get update on it.I think my previous operating system with Directadmin was also having similar issues.
