General :: Slackware 13.1 Adduser Wont Work NO /usr/bin Directory?
Feb 12, 2011
/usr/bin: No such file or directory and I cannot run any adduser commands from root of my new install of Slackware 13.1. This is my first time every installing a Linux distro and I am confused as to why I cannot do anything from the root command that I have been reading in Linux forums?
I'm trying to install Slackware package into some specific locations, like for example, I want to put Linux base package into at / and put applications on /usr/local. However when I'm installing using "setup" program, I cannot find a part that let me to choose the installation destination.
At "setup install" option, it gives six different installation method like full, newbie, menu, expert, custom, and tag path. But none of them (I cannot find it) gives an option where to put the installation package to.
I'm trying to install a WiFi Wireless IEEE 802.11N/G/B WLAN 150Mbps Network Adapter USB2.0 on Slackware. I get the following message when I enter "make install." cannot stat rt3070sta.ko no such file or directory
i know some UNIX commands and some centos/linux commands anyway i need help setting up my centos VPS. I recieved the server the today and i wax given a SSH login which i quickly figured out how to use however for many actions including opening SFTP i need to have a non root useraccount form which i have none, so i preceeded to create a new account(adduser username, passwd username) however now if i try to log into SSH, SFTP with the new account i get a message Access is Denied. I need some help and the company hosting the server seems to be pretty useless for actual support, i think they assume VPS owners to have a reasonable amount of linux knowledge.
# Create a directory, and user, assign ownership of dir to that user and usergroup. sudo mkdir /mysecureddir sudo useradd mysecureduser sudo chown mysecureduser:mysecureduser /mysecureddir
[code].....
I've read some similar issues dealing with apache, but its still not clicking for me. Group has rwx access to directory and everything in it. I'm in the group.
I came from the Debian world so I did not do much building software from source. I successfully built wine from source, now the wine binary is in the same directory where the Makefile and all of the other source stuff is. I can run wine from that directory fine, but I sort of want to move it somewhere else. I tried moving the wine binary somewhere else, but when I try to run it I get
[code]...
What all do I have to move into the new directory to get wine working in the new directory? By convention, where should I move wine, I want it available for all users, should I move it to /opt/wine, or /usr/local/wine, or somewhere else?
I am attempting to add a user via the adduser command. However, I get an error/warning message after entering the following: (note I am following a HOWTO, and this is the line it says to enter).
Code: adduser renderNode perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LANG = "en_US.UTF-8" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). adduser: Please enter a username matching the regular expression configured via the NAME_REGEX[_SYSTEM] configuration variable. Use the `--force-badname' option to relax this check or reconfigure NAME_REGEX or NAME_REGEX_SYSTEM. I don't quite understand how to check/configure locale settings or variables,
Proftpd is installed and running fine on 8.04 server. I want to streamline the process of adding users. Adding a ftp user with USERADD fails (user is created but connection fails when trying to connect with ftp client).
I am a bit fuzzy about the usage of adduser script directives in the smb.conf. I pressume they give you the ability to add users directly from windows machines... or not? And how can I use them?
What is the correct way to copy a file or directory to another directory? In the past I was able to use press the mouse left and right button, it didn't work all the time hard to press the two buttons at the same time. With the Fedora 14 it does not work at all.
Quote: The precompiled Slackware kernels are available in the /kernels directory on the Slackware CD-ROM or on the FTP site in the main Slackware directory. I am unable to reach it, what's the proper login?
I am thinking of using slackware 64 bit with awesome 3 wm. The thought process behind this is that I will learn a lot of how things work, which I am anxious to do. I like speed but knowing what is going on under the hood is paramount to me. I like knowing all my processes and knowing where all my files are and exactly what is on my computer but where I run into trouble is that this might just be too complex for me. I'm not too great at programing so...
After deciding to get into Linux and start learning the secrets of it, I decided to install it on my laptop. Now I have a small problem. How can I get my wireless connection to work on it? I have read few guides and tips on the internet regarding the iwconfig and the rc.wireless_conf files, but it didn't get me anywhere. I have Slackware 13.37
I'm using a hp dualprocessor athlon 11 g42-415dx notebook pc and my wireless wont work i put the passcode in wicd program and it says bad password. So i tried the pin code on the wireless router and that didnt work so am i doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the hardware? i got the wired connection to work but cant get wireless its a little more complex.
I have followed the instructions at http://www.vcn.bc.ca/~dugan/setting-up-slackware.html (under "Making Firefox Perfect"), but I still get the error message"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rtsp) isn't associated with any program."
I recently ordered the Alienware Aurora from Dell and upgraded the video card to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 as I noticed that Nvidia offers a 32-bit driver for download.
Then I noticed that the system comes with Windows 7 64-bit so I am assuming that this is a 64-bit system.
My bottom line question is will I have to install Slackware 13 (64 bit) or will I have to stick with the 32-bit version since the Nvidia driver is compiled for 32-bit? This is a gaming machine so obviously I want to be able to realize the full potential of the video card.
If I have a choice, what are the pros and cons? I DO NOT want Windows so I'll be disappointed if I can't install Linux!
I do have trouble in configuring my wireless network, though i configured it as what Alien BOB say(http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...ckware:network) and google some similar Threads. My latop is Asus F83vf, wireless card is Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. The code when I run lspci command is code...
I can't mount nfs directory without option "-o nolock".NFS server is slackware 11 and client is Slackware 13 (full installation).I tested with Centos 5.4 and works fine. Using which rpc.lockd print is no rpc.lockd and slackware 11 is /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd.following services starting on client using rc.rpc ( rpc.statd and rpc.portmap)
I just did a clean install of 13.1 on one of my laptops and the scroll doesn't work on the synaptics touchpad. I've seen some comments about adding a file to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. I don't have this directory. Is it ok to add this, or did I screw something up during the install. I did another 13.1 install about a week ago and it is also missing this directory. Is this just something in current and not in 13.1?
I installed Slackware 13.37 and when i configured the LAMP, I now have a file session_mm_apache2handler0.sem in root(/) directory. I searched in the internet and found this:
I'm packaging PDFlib Lite for Slackware64 13.0, and I get the following warning from makepkg:WARNING: site_perl directory detected (this is fine for a local package build)Does anyone know if/why keeping the "site_perl" directory in the package could be a problem? Should I move the files it contains somewhere else?It is located in /usr/lib64/perl5/site_perl
I am working on getting my software packages installed on my fresh Slackware64-13.0 installation. Some (but definitely not all) of my executables are unable to be run.
I understand what PATH is for. It is for locating files, folders, executables in those directories when running from a Terminal window.
So, for example, I have just installed Cisco VPN Client for Linux, and it is the strangest thing. I should have access to this. I must not be understanding something here. Does anyone have any idea why this is not working for me? I have put in an example of what I am talking about.
Well, I am facing problem when doing lab questions.
I must use DLXLinux bundled in Bochs (bochs.sourceforge.net).
I am required to use the /usr/local directory.
In /usr directory, there is no directory named 'local' but there is one thing called 'local@'. So, when I try to use mkdir command to create 'local' directory in /usr , there are error "cannot make directory.....".
