Server :: SLES 11.2 Samba Server With Win7 Clients?

I just installed SLES 11.2 X86_64 and have SMB Server started after adding 2 lines to smb.conf:1. NTMLv2 = Yes2. name resolve order = wins bcast host lmhostsThere are also 02 new DWORD lines I add to Win7 clientsHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesLanManWorkstationParameters 1.DomainCompatibilityMode = 12. DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0Of course a few number of modifications I made from Yast to enable SMB Server and Client, and bcast as well. Now I am able to join my Linux Domain without error at first reboot from win7, but it seems spending a long time about 30 secs for auth. even I test on a very fast network system, all with core quad 3GHZ CPU and 4GB DDR2I would like to mention here that before I made the above changes I did a lot of different modifications onto my win7 clients (I found many suggestions online), and all seems mess up and never work; Then I had to reinstall win7 from scratch and just add 02 lines as above, but it works.

Learning samba. The samba on a server and the samba on clients arent the same conf. OK; but it pam/nsswitch is set to compat only, can the /etc/passwd be automatically updated from the server to the clients?
shall it need ldap on the server ?

I am having FC11 with an HP prineter attached my firewall is disabled I trying to print from my laptops after I have setup samba and shared the printer , It was working fine when I was installing FC4 and FC5 I am not sure what is missing when I tried to print from the XP box I got "Test pge failed to print" error what I have really noticed in the xp and vista box is that when I go to the printer settings inside control panel , pressing the ports tab and checking to what port I am printing I see that the port "\samba-serverprinter" is not created there this is the log

I use OpenSuse 11.3 and I successfully built a samba/openldap server. However the raoming profiles were not working so I removed the roaming profile part of the samba and the openldap using ldap account manager. I also rejoined a couple of the computers back to the domain successfully (it was not an instaneous join, it took a good minute or 2 to join each pc). Now I cannot cannot login to any of these computers with the domain credentials. I can share using the UNC path no problem and this was working find about 1 week ago.

I have the problems with transfer speed between samba and Windows XP clients.
Samba server configuration:
Quad Core 6600 CPU.
4 Gb RAM
OpenSUSE 11.2 with kernel "2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop"
Samba - samba-3.5.1-1.1.i586
Test: 4 GB File copying. One file.
Transfer speed from Samba Server to Windows 7 and XP clients:
(Windows clients copy file from Server share -> to local drive)
From Server to Windows 7 client 1:
85-90 Mb/sec
From Server to Windows 7 client 2:
90-100 Mb/sec
From Server to XP1 client 3
75-100 Mb/sec
Transfer speed from Windows 7 and XP clients TO Samba Server:
(client copy file from local drive -> to server Share)
From Server to Windows 7 client 1:
12-20 Mb/sec
From Server to Windows 7 client 2:
30-35 Mb/sec
From Server to Windows XP client 1
20-27 Mb/sec
(Copying file from Windows local drive to Windows remote share)
From Window 7 client 1 TO Windows XP client 1
40-50 Mb/sec
From Window 7 client 2 TO Windows XP client 1
50-60 Mb/sec
Copying file from Windows 7 client 2 share -> TO Windows XP client 1 show me 100-120 Mb/sec speed permanent.
Copying file from Linux hosts to NFS server is stable 50-90
Mb/sec bidirectional.

On all of my xp clients no matter what the username is is I am continously getting the error saying that the profile cannot be found. I just built this domain recently and since day 1 the roaming profiles have not worked.

so i found an older computer i want to play with as a file server. ubuntu server edition, installed gnome GUI (to make things easier for now, i plan on removing it later) and used [URL].. to configure my 1.5tb harddrive so my windows machines can access it. i had everything working but than a fatal crash made me start from scratch (os and all) now i am unable to access the samba share from a machine running windows 7, but i can access it from a machine running windows XP using the same login and password i set up for windows 7.this makes me believe it's a problem with windows 7 and not samba.

I learn from many experts online, and finally it works but still happens some sharing problems that I can handle it in different way. Here is what I have, and hopefully we can share what we have successed: -Sles Linux 11.3 installed, Samba 3.5.4 server configured and started, no DNS or LDAP installed.
-added to smb.conf:
client ntlmv2 auth = yes
wins support = Yes
wins proxy = No
lanman auth = yes

Reboot and now Win7 can join the domain, but with an error message about can't change the domain name to... but I just ignore it, and it works OK with any shared folders, the same way for WinXP. The only problem is that it won't map the logon drive P: but I can apply the "logon.bat" instead. However, I don't understand all of what I have done to make it work as I just copied from other experts.

I need to know is there any way to record or tracking or make logging if when user samba delete files or folders i can know that, cause sometimeon samba server some users complain they lost files, though i have daily backup and i can restore their files, i just want to know if or maybe some other users in one group accidentally move or delete the files.

I have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.

I am running Apache2 on Novell SLES 11. I am using Virtual Hosting for two sites. One site only has a single domain whereas the other site has two domains registered. surrounding my one virtual host with the two domains. I want anyone that point to [URL] gets redirected to [URL]. I am trying to do this for trending but not 100% on how to go about doing this. I've read about mod_rewrite but most of the information I've read about is about a single site running on Apache and not much around Virtual Hosting within Apache. I am currently using Server Alias within my vhost.conf file which allows either [URL] or [URL] to see the site but I really want to redirect [URL] to [URL].

It seems that every time there is vmware client update a couple of my Linux servers always reboot and get stuck at booting up because linux can not start a drive. I end up having to boot off the server did, run install and then run a auto repair to get it to boot up. I tried narrowing the repair to just the file systems but that did not seem to fix it, it has to be a autorepair. So I am thinking that with the vmware client there must be some virtualized hardware address that has changed with the updated client but I am not sure how to check what it is when I get dumped out to what looks like run-level 3 command prompt

In my network the client systems access internet through my server which has ubuntu 9.10 server edition in it.I gave my server's ip address as name server's address in /etc/resolv.conf file in the client systems. And i have assigned static ip to my systems. i have not configured squid in my server.I just want to know whether the website acessed by the client systems will be registered in the server or not, with the coresponding ip addresses.
i have checked system log file in server,but i can't find any ip address entry of the client systems in it.which file i have to actually check, or should i need to configure any extra things to monitor the clients web history in server.

I'm presently writing software to keep my system time from drifting, it uses an external clock device.To verify it's accuracy I'm running ntpd as a server, and have another server monior the first as a client. This allows me to compare the offset with other 'valid' time servers.The problem is that the monitoring client keeps synchronising with my development server. All was fine until last week when our chief asked to me to set password expiration for all clients. This morning, all users cannot logon because, when they logon, windows asks to change password and then it gives error error "Access Denied".

I have a LAN of about 70 computers that I would like to share media files between. I have gotten to the point with Samba that I can view the files without a username/password from client PC's. I would like to make all the folders read only except for one which will be writable for everyone. The thing that I am having a hard time with is allowing a couple of administrators (on Windows 7 machines) read/write access for all files/folders. I want to setup a Linux File Server for a small windows network (around 50 users). I do know that I am gona need Smb service/pkg for that. I haven't used Samba for a while now and as per the best of my knowledge, entire communication (including usernames and passwords) between a samba server & windows client machines will be plain text. Is there any way to secure all this communication??
Secondly, if i remember correctly, MS windows wont let me mount more than one samba shares as network disk when all my shares can be accessed by different smb users with different passwords?? is there a solution to this problem? OR may be if there is any other package available for this purpose so that i wont have to use samba?

I have a CentOS + Samba server and Windows XP client machines. Users, passwords and permissions are entered on the server machine.users and passwords ( same as on the server ) are entered in the XP client machine.When attempting to access a public file on the server using a XP client machine and the IP address of my server, I am asked a user name and password and none of the already entered seem to work. I cannot access the server file (prompted again and again to enter user name and password). What did i miss

I am trying to implement a NAS running Debian to replace the Windows 2003 file server.We implemented the system and we integrated it with the active directory. Is it possible to manage the access rights using windows tools and get the same amount of detail(not the right word) on access.As an example, we have the following folder structure:
Teams&Projects All users list, admins full
Team1 All users list, admins full, some users modify
Project1 All users no access, admins full, some modify, some list
I have read some articles on the internet that this is possible but I do not have enough information to implement this.
