Server :: Clients Browsing History In Server

In my network the client systems access internet through my server which has ubuntu 9.10 server edition in it.I gave my server's ip address as name server's address in /etc/resolv.conf file in the client systems. And i have assigned static ip to my systems. i have not configured squid in my server.I just want to know whether the website acessed by the client systems will be registered in the server or not, with the coresponding ip addresses.
i have checked system log file in server,but i can't find any ip address entry of the client systems in it.which file i have to actually check, or should i need to configure any extra things to monitor the clients web history in server.

I've searched these forums as well as Firefox's site, as well as searching on Google Linux but can't find what I'm looking for.In a nutshell, I want to keep a log of my users' browser history so that even if they clear history or set Firefox to not keep history, I can still view a log of what site they have visited.My hope is that I can write a script(although I'm a BASH newb it would be a nice little real-world project for me to attempt) that would keep info such as user,visit date,ip of visited site, just the basics. A great feature would be for the logs to be emailed to me for inspection but that isn't vital if I can navigate to the log myself.
For all I know this is already available somewhere in the log folders I just can't find anything. If it helps I'm running Mint 9 Isadora and Firefox 3.6.12

I have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.
localhost in.tftpd[12727]: tftpd: read: No route to host

What are all the ways you could think of that someone could view your browsing history, upstream from your machine? They don't have physical access, there's nothing on the computer itself and the person trying to hack has skill so I'm thinking like monitoring a proxy somehow, using the ip address somehow, compromising the modem in some way, possibly having access to google account etc. I am new to ubuntu and have really dug it so far but I want to figure how this is/was being done

I have the vlc media player plugin which lets me open up videos in my browser instead of having to download them. Sadly, this plugin is very buggy and makes videos freeze sometimes. This happened to me while watching a video and I right clicked it to see if I can save it to my hard drive from there. I saw an option to "Open in Movie Player" so I did, and it played the video perfectly. I shut down my computer and turned it back on later, and when I opened up Movie Player, under File>, the videos still show up, and I can play them. I tried removing all browsing history from Google Chrome and checked my flash video settings (removed all sites and cookies) but the videos still show up in Movie Player. Also tried emptying the temp folder. Is there any way I can get these videos off my computer?!?!

I just installed SLES 11.2 X86_64 and have SMB Server started after adding 2 lines to smb.conf:1. DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0Of course a few number of modifications I made from Yast to enable SMB Server and Client, and bcast as well. Now I am able to join my Linux Domain without error at first reboot from win7, but it seems spending a long time about 30 secs for auth. even I test on a very fast network system, all with core quad 3GHZ CPU and 4GB DDR2I would like to mention here that before I made the above changes I did a lot of different modifications onto my win7 clients (I found many suggestions online), and all seems mess up and never work; Then I had to reinstall win7 from scratch and just add 02 lines as above, but it works.

I'm presently writing software to keep my system time from drifting, it uses an external clock device.To verify it's accuracy I'm running ntpd as a server, and have another server monior the first as a client. This allows me to compare the offset with other 'valid' time servers.The problem is that the monitoring client keeps synchronising with my development server. How can I configure either the dev. server or the client so that it's time won't be selected as a good time source?The ntp.conf on the dev. server looks like:

Doing my final year project in linux- a Mozilla Firefox extension which providing chat option for two or more peoples,who happen to be browsing the same website simultaneously. It shows you other people who visit the same websites as you are. These people have to be registered with our software. I don't know how to go about this. After a lot of googling and enquiring i have divided the project into three modules: an extension at browser side, chat implementation (probably in ajax) and a server- apache-php-mysql.
The extension keeps track of the URLs visited by the browser. It sends this information to the server. When it receives information from the server, the extension displays the number of users visiting the URL as the user. The extension informs the server whenever the user clicks the EnableChat(which will be embedded in a toolbar in the browser) button to start a chat session. After receiving the information, the extension displays the users in that site. The user clicks on a particular username for chat.
I have installed php mysql and apache. but i do not know exactly what the server must do. I know i have to write the server code in php and put it in the /var/www folder. but what should that code do? how exactly does the extension or browser communicate with the server for the exchange of above info?

I have Samba installed at home. It is sharing some folders through the network..
The problem is that I can access and map those shares with Windows machines... But if I try clicking on the linux server name in the folder tree in order to expand it and show every share available I get an error message saying that the server is unavailable and gives me this: "The procedure number is out of range".
I know the server is available as I can ping it and open the shares (if I type the full address). Is there anything to do with IPC$ share?

I had a Samba server that worked as expected, but after four years of operation, I had to upgraded for a different reason. After much pain and agony, Samba *almost* works.The Big Problem: On XP, the Samba server "Scully" appears in "My Network Places". On the Vista and Win7, the server is not seen in "Network". The shares can be accessed and mapped if the name \Scully or IP address is provided \192.168.X.Y, but it can not be browsed.

I currently have a LAMP server running with multiple virtual hosts configured. I have one virtual host with a sub directory that contains pdf news letters.do not want the directory browsable and tried putting an index.php file that re-directshe user to the root directory but when I go to the [web address]/[directory name] in any browser I see the contents of the folder listed.
Currently the news letter list is drawn from a database table and displayed as links on a page in the root directory. The links point to the file name in the sub directory. How do I block users from going to that sub directory and seeinge contents of that directory listed? Would I add another <directory> statement in the vhosts.conf file? If so how would I structure that directive?

I am on a 172.16.x.x network with about 60 Windows XP home and Vista home clients in a peer-to-peer workgroup that uses DHCP to assign addresses. About half the traffic on my LAN is netbios broadcast. I do not want to do a WINS server because I do not want to have to manually change the registry on every machine. This is only for local name resolution and I do not have any web servers or e-mail servers. I do not have access to a Windows server to use as a DNS server. I am on Debian and using BIND but am open to other suggestions.

Im having a problem with our pxe environment. We have around 200 clients per server to boot from tftp and when we hit 250 the service just freezes. So, our options are to either add more servers or move to a more robust protocol. Is this feasible?? How can clients boot from ftp?

The Server in the above diagram can be accessed by Client3 and Client4 but not at all by Client1 or Client2. Router0 specifies the Server as a DMZ Host. I would be more specific but this is not my server. I don't use a DMZ, I forward ports when they are needed. In this case I represent ISP1 and the server belongs to a befuddled client. Client1 & Client2 can send packets to each other, no problem. Could the DMZ be breaking communication between the Server and Clients 1 & 2?
