CentOS 5 Server :: TFTP-server Unable To Send Files To Clients Outside It Subnet?

Sep 9, 2011

I have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.

localhost in.tftpd[12727]: tftpd: read: No route to host

Ubuntu Networking :: Ltsp Server Subnet - Log Clients To The Parent Domain?

Mar 10, 2011

I have an Edubuntu server with two nics joined to the primary windows domain and I can log on with domain credentials and everything is AOK. I used LikewiseOpen 6 to join the server to the primary domain. So, on my Edubuntu server eth1 is connected to the primary domain and has a static IP. eth2 also has a static IP and is the DHCP for the thin client subnet, connected to a switch. IP forwarding is enabled.

DOMAIN - eth1 - Edubuntu Server - eth2 (SUBNET) - switch - clients

So far, so good: I can log on the thin clients with one of the local accounts specified on the Edubuntu server and with that account I can surf the net and, if I supply domain credentials, browse the primary domain. Problem I have is:

I can't work out how to log on to the primary domain with a Active Directory account directly from a thin client. If I try DOMAINuser to log on, after giving the password, the password screen refreshes and 'domainuser@11.*.21.*'s password' appears under the blank password box. The IP in that message is the IP for the subnet and not the primary domain. I feel like I'm miss-understanding some basic simple step but I just can't figure it out.

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Clients Not Seeing All Files In Export?

Dec 9, 2009

We recently upgraded our NFS server from Centos 4.4 kernel 2.6.9-42.0.10.plus.c4 to Centos 5.4 kernel 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5

In our queue directory where we shuffle files to be processes some files will go missing.

Example structure

/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
etc...

/Queues/Process2/subdir_xxx
/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
etc...

Where 'xxx' is a date/time string down to the second.

Each subdir entry contains a number of files, depending on load at the time.

What we see happening is that a subdir will appear empty from a client (ls -la shows . and .. ) but an rmdir will fail with a 'directory not empty' error. From all 7 clients (mix of Centos 4 and 5). However on the server the files are visible. If we 'touch' the files the clients will then pick them up and process them.

It doesn't appear that waiting any amount of time will make the files visible (we've waited 8 hours while testing).

We've tried different mount options, NFS4, etc. Nothing got rid of the issue. Changing one server to use CIFS however solved it. So it appears to be some bug in NFS.

The problem appears to be intermittent and random, we can go hours without seeing it, or minutes. I'd say it affects fare less then 1% of the files written.

You are running tftpd as an on demand server i.e. it is only fired up when it is needed. Services run by xinetd are always run on demand. Have you actually tested if tftp on another system can access your PC i.e.

Code:
tftp your_pc_ip_address

Server :: Sendmail SMTP Send Doesn't Work With OS X 10.6 Mail.app Clients

Aug 3, 2010

I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.

Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.

CentOS 5 Server :: Tftp Permission Denied?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm trying to setup a network boot server and I'm having an issue with tftp. In the /etc/xinetd.d/tftp file, I added the "-v" (verbose) option to the server arg line so that i could figure out what was happening. When i looked at the /var/log/messages log file, it let me know that permission was denied to /tftpboot/nbi_img.

So, in short, my problem is that tftp isn't working because it doesn't have permission to /tftpboot/nbi_img. I can't figure out why. I stumbled upon a site where the user figured out a temporary fix to this issue and what he did was disabled the xinetd service and typed the following command:/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l -v -v -s /tftpboot/nbi_imgWhen I do this as well, it works! but only until I restart and then I have to do that again. Is there a way to be able to fix that for good?

CentOS 5 :: Security On Tftp Server (vsftpd) - Permission Denied

Jun 13, 2009

I am trying to wade through the semanage jungle to get permissions for a tftp client. I followed the HowTos [URL] but I get the following at the client:

tftp> status
Connected to 192.168.1.101.
Mode: netascii Verbose: off Tracing: off
Rexmt-interval: 5 seconds, Max-timeout: 25 seconds
tftp> get hello.o4
tftp: hello.o4: Permission denied

I finally figured out that the firewall directives shown at the end of the HowTo refer to semanage although the options are stated incorrectly according to the man page for semanage. I did insure that the file hello.o4 in /tftpboot has read permission for everybody.

CentOS 5 Networking :: DHCP Multi-Subnet From Single Server?

Oct 24, 2010

I've got a bit of a question. My network is laid out like this:

The role assignments are thus:

Firewall - sorts out the passing through to the 3 different networks, and acts as the traffic proxy.
Windows 2003 server - Does Active Directory and DNS
CentOS server - FTP and DHCP

Now, my problem is I need the CentOS server to be able to assign IP address to both networks, however, the CentOS server can *ONLY* be connected via the one interface to the firewall. It needs to assign the Windows 2003 server and the eth0 of the firewall an IP address via static DHCP, but it also needs to able to assign the clients dynamically via any address in the 10.23.1.0/24 range. I was thinking that I would be able to create static only assignments for the servers via their MAC addresses, and only have 1 dynamically assignable entry for the clients, and then get the firewall to allow ports 67 and 68 to flow freely between eth0 and eth1, but I wasn't entirely sure of the best way to do all this.

CentOS 5 Server :: FTP Web Interface For Clients?

Oct 19, 2010

At my work, we have several clients (outside clients) that have an FTP login to our FTP Server. Their login then leads them to their home FTP folder. The FTP server is currently a Win2003 box. Because we have so many clients, we would like to implement some form of WebGui that would allow each client to manage their own FTP home folder and user info, such as resetting their password if they lost it.

Is there anything like this available in linux that would provide us with that kind of control/usability?

CentOS 5 Server :: VM Clients Keep Getting Disconnected?

Apr 4, 2011

I am setting up the first VM now, and one of the things it does is download torrents onto the share. I am connecting it via "mount -t smbfs //nas/public /mnt/nas" from the VM on the host and it seems to work fine. However whenever I add a torrent to the queue on the VM to download, all downloads stop and seem to be disconnected. I can restart them after a few seconds, but they will stop after a few minutes with another disconnect error. I have the network interface bridged, so I thought it was talking directly to the host.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Can't Seem To Get The X Server To Allow Access From Clients On Other Hosts?

Jan 8, 2009

I can't seem to get the X server to allow access from clients on other hosts. (I know, not exactly a network problem, but. I made the change in /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf to be : DisallowTCP=false

and this worked on another CentOS system, but it hasn't fixed it on this one. What other things could prevent other clients from connecting to the X server? From the local host, I get :

Warning: Tried to connect to session manager, Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed although the client DOES actually create the window and work! So, maybe this message is a clue.

From the remote host, I get : Error: Can't open display: 10.10.1.20:0.0 Which is not terribly informative. Is there a log somewhere which details why a connect request was denied? The files in /var/log/gdm are not very informative.

Ubuntu Networking :: DNS - Clients Unable To Properly Resolve The Server's Ip Address

Oct 4, 2010

I'm having really weird and frustrating DNS issues with my clients unable to properly resolve the server's ip address. They can resolve each other's, and outside systems, but not the server - at least, not correctly, and not all the time.

I have one Ubuntu server set up that does both DHCP and DNS serving to the Windows systems. The server has DNS forwarding turned on to forward to OpenDNS's servers (I've tried using my ISP's dns servers but the problem remains).
The server is *not* set up as a firewall; I am actually using a DLink router for that, and the Dlink is *not* set up to serve up DHCP nor DNS.

What I am getting is that my clients - and there are nothing but Windows clients - will not resolve the name of the server. For example, if I do: ping linuxserver

I get back a false IP address of 192.168.0.64 (and I've seen once a 192.168.2.49).

If, however, I put a dot in there: ping linuxserver.

I get back the *correct* IP address of 192.168.0.2, and thereafter, ping'ng linuxserver without the dot will work. Until the dns cache expires, either naturally or with ipconfig /flushdns on the windows clients.

The client *are* getting valid dhcp leases and can resolve everything happy-happy, they just will not get the proper address of the server 100% of the time.
