Hardware :: Error : "Could Not Find The SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation CD
Apr 21, 2011We are in the process of testing SLES 10 SP1 installation, onto a new system.
Initially the installation got failed at the start giving following error :
"Could not find the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation CD. Activating Manual setup program."
What is interesting to notice is , if we use SLES 10 SP2 to boot the system upto the Installation menu and then replace the CD with SLES 10 SP1 media, the installation proceeds as normal without any error.
Not sure that could be the problematic thing over here. Does it mean with SP1 , no cdrom/cd or hard disk gets detected ?

Jul 11, 2011I have installed SUSE SLES11.0 and when it boots up, the keyboard works, but the mouse does not. I am connected via a KVM, and the pointer does not move when I move the mouse.
I have run:
> init 3
> cat /dev/input/mice
> sax2 (after I got the mouse working)
But after the reboot, it no longer works within the gui.I have already searched for hours via google and tried many things to no avail

Sep 13, 2009I hav successfully installed RHEL5.1 on my system. I downloaded flash player from Adobe website. I chose RPM from the download type. Now, I can find an icon on my GUI for the flash player. When I right-click the icon and click on "Open with software installer", I was able to install flash player. Even the system showed that the software has been installed. But still when I issue the command rpm -qi flash the output says that flash is not installed.
Is there any correct way to install the rpm package. I even tried to install using rpm -ivh <flash player pkg name> even that did'nt work... I have another query... where does the package gets installed when I download RPM's or any other software from the internet.. I want to know the path where the pkgs will be sotred...
General :: Ssh Without Password From User To Root On Same Linux Enterprise 5 Machine
Jan 22, 2010My application is installed on root of RH enterprise 5 and is run via user on the same machine. This need ssh without password from the user.
i do the following :
1. run ssh-keygen in .ssh directory of the user.
2. copy the id_rsa.pub as the authorized-keys in the root's .ssh directory
3 chmod 600 to the authorized_keys
4.restart the machine
5. login from the user and ssh SER ( SER is the entry in the /etc/hosts with the ip address of the machine)
6 It still prompt for the password
How can i ssh from the user to the machine without password.

Oct 15, 2010Having been a long-time Linux supporter, it was a no-brainer for me to push Linux as the OS when it was time to move my company's website(s) from an external host to an internal server. My company ponied up the bucks for an HP Proliant DL180 G5 server (this was about a year ago) upon which I installed Slackware 12.1 (I kinda default to Slackware, although in the past I've also used RedHat on the server and openSUSE on the desktop).
Well, it's now time to upgrade the OS on the server. Perhaps I'm a little late to the game on this, but I just recently found out about Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5. Bad Oracle ju-ju aside, it looked to be a very good and stable server distro, especially when you consider the availability of Oracle support for it. So I've since installed OEL to a non-production server and have been testing it out.It looks to be a good match for my needs.
However, since installing OEL on my test server I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 on my home desktop (a 1.86ghz Intel Core 2 Duo HP xw4400 workstation) and in a VirtualBox VM on my work desktop (a 3.2ghz Intel Core i3 iMac) and... holy crap, it's the best desktop Linux I've ever had the pleasure of using. It will certainly replace Slackware as my default "go-to" Linux distro. Which has made me wonder about the Ubuntu Server offering and if it might not be a better fit for my webserver in the same way that Ubuntu Desktop is a better fit for my workstation.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to pull down another server distro, install it, and test it unless I'm reasonably certain that it's going to give OEL a run for its money. So I turn to the forums and the knowledge of the users who frequent them: is Ubuntu Server a strong enough contender to OEL that I should take a more serious look at it? Or, like I'm hearing about the latest Ubuntu Netbook edition, would it not be worth my time if I'm happy with OEL so far?

To resolve this error, I tried to install Mesa OpenGL libraries (mesa-7.5.2). But its not getting installed even after resolving dependencies such as libdrm, dri2proto, libpthread-stubs.

Mar 18, 2010I was tryin to install virtualbox on Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 and it said it needs pad-devil. I looked in the software archive that came with sled 11 but it wasnt there. I tried downloading the VirtualBox install for Suse Linux Enterprise Server but got the same error as when i tried install VirtualBox with the opensuse 11.1 rpm file. can virtualbox even be install on sled? (has anyone done it?) and if so where can i find pam-devil?

Jun 23, 2010Attempts to do a mount -t nfs4 servername:/share /mnt hang. Performing an strace of the mount shows that the mount command is attempting to find /sbin/mount.nfs4 The nfs server, client, and util packages are installled. Did ps -ef | grep idmapd; ps -ef | grep gssd to check client side daemons and things look good. Not using gssd right now tho. Just want to get the thing to mount. Firewalls are not running. Doing a showmount -e servername reports the shares as being offered. I can mount it using nfs v3 protocol.

Jan 28, 2010I am trying to see if I can swap out our 150+ Novell Suse Linux Enterprise Server for CentOS. From my initial thoughts I can. I am however running into an issue with the firstboot. Currently, we use firstboot on Suse with our base image. We created an image which we deploy and then firstboot runs our necessary scripts to configure the networking and office specific settings. I want to test this out but when I search for the firstboot.xml file I can't find it. I need to modify the config file and change the way the firstboot runs. Is this possible with CentOS?
I am also wondering if anyone is using Novell ZenWorks Linux Management to manage their CentOS instances or if you are using something else I would like to hear what tool you're using. I would need the ability to deploy patch/ security updates and make occasionally changes to files, not very often though.
Just a brief run down of what the server(s) will be doing. Their primary purpose is to provide caching via squid and the use of the browser for new hires until they get their notebooks. The browser runs Java and flash and the ability to print is also necessary. Pretty basic stuff so I am looking at CentOS cause the forums look very active!
