I have the strange problem that my sound and video stops sometimes when I'm not moving the mouse. As long as I keep moving the mouse there is no problem.
I am using
- Fedora 14
- 2 Sound cards (Internal Audio and Audio device on my Radeon HD 3600 video card, however this sound is not working)
I boot up Ubuntu 10.04 just fine. The mouse works, but after about 2 seconds or so, it stops moving. Of course, the keyboard keeps working fine. It's like Ubuntu stops getting the signals that the mouse is moving. The mouse is in fine working condition. It works fine on my Windows partition. The mouse just had fresh batteries installed, and the laser light doesn't turn off.
I did just remove an ATI card and go back to my GeForce 8200 onboard graphics card. So I thought it might be a wierd driver problem, so I managed to remove the NVIDIA drivers. Didn't help at all. I also was able to log into a console and update the OS. No help there either. I did try to boot my 10.04 live cd, but my computer hates live cd's for some reason. It wouldn't boot, and I can't remember what I did to make it work when I installed Ubuntu.
So when I try to move the home directory to another point, the sound stops working magically. Well actually the sound still works, but the controls don't work. Here is what I am trying to do.
My home directory is currently at /home/user I want it in another independent partition so I copy all the contents from /home/user to /dev/sda5 and then I mount /dev/sda5 to /home/user with rw permissions. Everything works perfectly, even my mozilla profile is copied and such, but the sound somehow disappears. When I comment out the line from fstab that mounts the the filesystem at /home/user, naturally things go back to normal because my folder at /home/user that was earlier becomes my home again. Things are working again. I can go back and forth, doesn't help.
Here are the specs, though they are irrelevant as everything including the sound works as long as I don't try to change my home dir. I'm using a Thinkpad T410. The destination filesystem btw is ntfs for my home directory, I know it's not suggested and most of you here will feel like lecturing me on how i shouldn't be using ntfs, but the point is I want to have my "Desktop" "Documents" "Pictures" "Videos" "Downloads" and everything in the same place for both windows and linux. So if moving the home directory to NTFS is strongly unadvisable, let me know how to move each of these folders to a desirable location. Here's what lspci has to say about audio device.

Biggest one that make game unplayable is mouse. Mouse isn't moving smooth it jumps around. I cannot shoot anything. So i asked for help, and everybody just say install windows. And where is fun in that. If people when ever run into problem with some software on linux just install windows. Linux would never go forward. I m not some great gamer, but i would like to be able to play this game. Probably somebody run into same problem. I sow that people talk about something like dis on WOW and wine but simptoms doesn't seem same to me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an obsession of packing a large number of distros into one hard disk. Many distro installers do not like it even though their kernels can support higher number partitions. Typically an installer, say from a Debian family, would freeze when checking a hard disk that has more than 15 partitions. However if I put the same distro on a hard disk with less than 16 partition the installer will be very happy to install. I then copy the distro back to the original disk to a different partition, change the boot loader setting and fstab and the new distro will be happily working in the next hard disk that has 57 partitions.
This scheme works for any distro until recently Fedora refuses the move. I didn't investigate the cause then but I have just come up against a brick wall with the Red Hat Enterrise Linux 6. It was one out of the 4 I just moved. The others are operating happily. The RHEL will boot to a Grub screen. When I select the user account and type in the password it just refreshes the screen as though the password could not be accepted. I can boot up another Linux, mount the RHEL partition, change root to it and change my normal user password. Better still why don't I create a new user and another password.
Same result. I could not pass the log in screen with revised password or from a new account which got displayed. How about a little trick told by Justlinux library file --> to alter the run level. So I mounted the RHEL partition, changed root to it, edited the /etc/inittab and amended the run level from 5 (for X desktop) to 1 (single user - terminal mode). RHEL now boots to a root terminal! Success in a sense that my RHEL boots as expected and there was never a problem with booting. However newer Linux do not permit root log on to the desktop so I cannot check the log in with the ordinary user account to X. After I fiddled with the various files/parameters related to the gdm and X still no joy so I cut my loss and post the question here.
When I don't move my mouse, my screen pauses and stops doing anything. I constantly have to move my mouse to refresh what is on the screen. For example, if there is a video on the screen, the video will stop and glitch up if I am not touching the trackpad to make the cursor move around the screen. The second I start to move the cursor on the screen, however, the video plays again. Why?!

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy USB mouse stops working sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes 30 mins. Used two different '"corded" USB mice, different USB ports. Same issue. The power to the mouse itself seems to turn off as the laser light is off. Unplugging and replacing does not fix, only a reboot. Same problem with Ubuntu and Mint.

Does it conflict with compiz, or is it one of compiz plugins? Which package is responsible for it and how can I get it back?
I am using Fedora11/Gnome and I frequently use several windows for input. I would like to focus on a window just by moving the mouse over it (but not pop up). However, I can not find anywhere to set up this option.
View 12 Replies View RelatedHere's a weird one. Once in a while I inadvertantly hit the key combination RIGHT-ARROW + INSERT on my keyboard while editing in Geany. This stops my mouse buttons from working and I have to kill xorg. Anyone heard of this before or how to fix it? I know I know, I should stop hitting those keys by accident, but it seems to happen at least once a day! This is on Fedora 12.

I just installed Fedora12 32bit and I have no sound. I've tried reinstalling and updating PulseAudio, but I don't know if it's just my settings or my drivers or what. (And no, it's not muted).

Aside from not having sound, my players are acting funny. If I go to load, say, an MP3 into XMMS, it only attempts to play a song for 1 second and then stops. (no sound comes out, but I can see the equalizer moving for a second like its' trying).
I am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.

My mouse suddenly stop working, or the cursor changes from pointer type to a line cursor and basicaly the mouse just stops clicking. I am plannning to install fedora 13 on this machine. Have downloaded the 5 iso (
CD images).
Would choosing the option upgrade on existing Linux partition do the job? Is there a chance I loose my data files when the upgrade is done? I dont want to reinstall programs like java, eclipse, tomcat etc that I done in fedora 12. I only intend using the CD's as I dont have a lot of bandwidth and a fast internet connection to use yum.
Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have read no fixes anywhere, oddly. This problem happened in 9.10 and seems to be back in 10.04. The fix on Ubuntu-Geek, which was re-posted various places, does not work either. However, I do know this is not a hardware issue... or think. I have a dual-boot with Windows 7 and it is not affected by this. Also, if I install anything 9.04 or earlier, this does not happen. Oddly, my netbook had 9.10 and now 10.04 but not this issue. Sadly I feel I must try other distros as this appears to be a Ubuntu specific error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a USB mouse which randomly stop in Debian Jessie. It starts again if I disconnect and connect it again.
It can take a couple of hours or just a couple of minutes. The only thing I've been able to find is that it stops more often when I'm scrolling.
I have tried different mice with the same result. I recently migrated from Ubuntu where I did not have this problem so I doubt there is a hardware error.
I can see the syslog updating every time I connect the mouse but I can't see anything when it stops

This is an intermittent problem. My mouse works on boot, but stops working periodically. Once it stops, I have to reboot the computer. The problem is more than a little annoying. My hardware and software is as follows:
*AMD Phenom X3
*Integrated geForce 8200 GS

There seems to be an issue with my mouse. This issue is present whether working in Ubuntu 9.10, or Windows 7. The mouse stops responding for a moment or two every little bit. At first I thought the problem came from power management, but that doesn't seem to be it. I tried disabling hpet, and a host of other things. Nothing works at all, and yes, I tried using another mouse. my system is nice and new

Just a short while ago my mouse pointer froze randomly. I figured it was just the mouse so I disconnected and reconnected it, still nothing. Restarted computer and it worked for a while, then froze again. The mouse is wireless, but it doesn't seem to be anything to do with the mouse's hardware. The laser on the mouse and LED indicator on the sensor are both still flashing away while it's stuck. I then restarted again and tried an old wired laser mouse, which followed suit and worked for a few minutes, then froze mid-screen. This time I left it in, and it's been stuck for a good ~15 minutes so far. Using Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Mice are just generic wireless and wired lasers of Microsoft and Logitech, respectively.

My mouse cursor is disappearing when it's not moving, or when I scroll a window with the middle wheel... Then when I move the mouse, the cursor is appearing!
This has started after few things...:
- old video card has died (ati hd4850)
- integrated motherboard video card used (ati hd4250) after solving the black screen (xorg, ati drivers... you know :s )
- since many weeks, computer has not been used before I've plugged a hd7970, solved 1 more time the black screen (.....)
And after many updates + this new video card = cursor is kidding :p
I've tried to change my cursor settings in the GUI config, nothing better.

Problem solved by renaming all cursor files...
