I am wondering if there is a way that i can force all windows ( konuquor ) to open the same way every time such as detailed tree view
The hard drive is accessed every few seconds with OpenSUSE and when it is there is a click sound when it is first accessed. I have other distros which dont make the clicking sound when they access the hard drive. I need to prevent opensuse from making the click sound when it does whatever it's doing. Im not even sure what it's doing or what settings to change, and most importantly how do i make it not click? Maybe i could copy settings over from another distro if i knew which settings to replace.

OK... I tried everything i could think of... but i still cannot get my Open SUSE 11.1 to mount my samba share at boot! I still don't understand the 11.1 boot sequence. can NE one help me... tell me what files to give you output from... Ty guys P.S. My shares originate from a Windows Server 2003 RC2 machine, and it's dns server doesn't work correctly... so my mount command is
mount -t //192.168.x.x/files/ /nET/ -o username=linux,password=xxxxxx

When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory.

However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed opensuse 11.2 (64-bit version) and I have a problem with the Mplayer browser plugin. Basically it comes up OK, I get the MPlayer plugin splash screen and controls exactly as expected, it downloads the media successfully (or at least looks like it does) but then doesn't play, it just reports "Stopped".
Mplayer itself works fine, it's just the browser that doesn't.

I have Firefox 3.6 extracted on my desktop. I do not know how to install it.
I looked at my current firefox and can't find a way to update it.
I have 1 Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz machine with 40 gb Seagate hdd which was previously running RedHat version4. Yes very old version running squid.
I am trying to format whole hdd and installing OpenSuSe but after installing it shows booting GRUB and show L letter thats it.
I tried manually creating partitions and 2nd time automatic lay out.
I have been using Open SUSE 10.3 for about a year now and have been very pleased. I am now trying Open SUSE 11, it seems good, loads a lot faster than 10.3 and seems to run a little faster. I have had a few probs but they have been resolved with help from these forums. But I have a big prob remaining and I have no idea what could cause it. For no apparent reason I will lose the connection to the net.It happens mostly when running aMule, it can be downloading fine for some while when suddenly the connection to the servers is lost and it won't reconnect, and then also I can not connect to the net with Google etc. The only way to solve it seems to be to shut down, wait awhile then reboot. It will be OK for a while then the problem re-occurs. There does not seem to be a problem with anything else on the system. I know that the Modem is OK as I have three HDD - 1 running Win XP, 2 - running Open Suse 10.3. 3 - running Open Suse 11 & the prob only occurs with SUSE 11, I do not get this problem with either of the other HDD. I have tried three versions of aMule, with SUSE 11,the one given on YAST - v2.2.2-0, & others from Packman v2.2.1-0, & vSVN, the problem occurs with each version so I think it must lie with SUSE 11. I have opened ports 4662 & 4672 on the firewall, & the setup I use is identical to the one on 10.3 which works faultlessly. I use a NTL Modem connected to the PC via Ethernet.

Is this a KDE problem? I just tried to upgrade to 11.2/KDE on the net (that was a mistake.) I finally installed from Downloaded DVD (install version) and crawled back from upgrade hell.

i tried reading a few forums, but they all start when 'lspci' recognizes the card.
My problem is that 'lspci' does not show any 'Broadcom' card.

I'm trying to install a GeForce 8600 XT card into novell Open Enterprise SUSE 11 so that I can get the 3D Cube to work. It currently does not work with the default nvidia card onthe motherboard.I can not find the correct driver for the GeForce 8600XT card. Can someone identify the driver I should be using please? Then if someone could also direct me to the "How to install a Video Driver" tutorial,
UPDATE:I've downloaded the correct drivers but it still says that my hardware does not support Desktop enhancements etc ... I think the GeForce 8600 XT just doesn't support 3D accelleration ... period.Can someone suggest a reasonably priced video card that is easy to install and which supports 3D Accelleration please?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have opened dolphin and some other application (avidemux, dolphin, firefox,etc). in the first window (dolphin) i have a file. i drag it to another window/application and if i release the left-button of mouse, the window/application of the drag destination become active (raise). is it any way to make it to come in front/top (active) once mouse is over window while still dragging, before releasing the mouse? there is "focus" stings (focus under mouse/raise with the delay) in "windows Behavior". the focus under mouse is working fine, but is not working while dragging. it would be very handy to see where i drop the file, especially if i only see a small partition of the destination window, which is behind other windows.

I created a folder --> right click and click on Share --> Check on "Share with Samba(Microsoft Windows)", "Public" and "Writable". Then connect from Windows using //192.168.100.1/sharefolder. It open up but I can only read (no write access as I check on "Writable"). Did I miss something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a OpenSUSE 11 machine set up as a domain controller. I have set my printer up to be shared to Windows machines logging into the domain. I was able to install the printer to my Windows machines. When you go to the printers folder in Windows, it shows the printer but says "access denied" instead of the usual "ready". If I print to the shared printer the job will go through. I am thinking it is an authentication issue because if I log into Windows machine as "root" and let it build a profile, the printer doesn't show the "access denied" message. How do I allow other users to have access to the printer?

This overrides all my X resources to the new defined values (correctly). If I open a new window, the theme is seen correctly. However, all the previously opened windows retain the original theme.Is there a way to force X to "re-theme" all windows it is managing with the currently loaded X resources?

I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly.The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2/' My 11.2 won't update and gives this error. Anyone know how to fix it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNew Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.
