I'm unable to acces the internet trough my browsers in Suse 11.3, my router assigns me a IP and I'm able to use Skype and Transmission but not my browsers; Firefox and Opera. I've been using the network at school today, there we have manually set our own IPs but now I'm back home and back to using DHCP. And yes, i have set the ipv4 back from "manually" to DHCP.
This is really confusing, I'm currently writing from my Arch install on the same computer. This works fine. The ifconfig output in both Suse and Arch is the exact same:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:23:5A:1B:30:AA
inet addr:95.34.XX.XX Bcast:95.34.XX.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::223:5aff:fe1b:30aa/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
I've installed debian and configured the network: I do ping to the gateway and it connects, I ping one distant server directly with the IP and it can see it (but not with ping [URL]), but when I try to use internet it says that maybe the url is wrong, but it is not.
And when I try to update (apt-get update) it give me a bunch of errors : W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/dists/s ... elease.gpg Could not resolve 'ftp.es.debian.org' W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/dists/s ... ion-en.bz2 Could not resolve 'ftp.es.debian.org'
I'm running mac osx snow leopard 10.6.2, installed virtualbox, created a partition with it and on that I installed Ubuntu (looking more specifically, I found it is Karmic Koala). For one, is kubuntu ubuntu karmic like mine? Or is that something different? Anyways, Did all that, installed guest permissions and everything, but before that and still, when I load up firefox, I can search some google things, but whenever I go to an actual page or something that seems like it needs just a little more muscle than google searching, it just crashes and disappears. So I basically can't access the internet.
I even tried installing Google Chrome through the terminal by some tutorial on another site. It worked and I got it all installed. It does the exact same thing Firefox does. I can do a couple of searches (sometimes not even that before it crashes) but when I go any further than that, it crashes.
I just installed Ubuntu, and the Wifi works just fine - E.g. downloading updates works like a charm But when I try to access a page in Firefox or Chrome they just keep loading the webpage, but never show me anything For the record, I'm using 10.04 32-bit. Don't know how must more information to give..But from this, does anyone have an idea, on how to fix it?
I am configuring a Vmware on my linux box Opensuse 11.0 and want to ask if i am supposed to be on the internet before you can have access to the OS on the VMware.
Just started using openSuse 11.2 and I'm really liking the desktop. I got my head around the software repo's and got all my drivers working but I just can't work out how to get sound on firefox. Videos play fine (that was my problem with Mandriva) and the sound works everywhere else (Amorak, desktop sounds, etc) but firefox is silent (not just flash stuff). I've installed flash, java, mplayer and Gstreamer (but I had to change the vendor options). Am I missing some magic plugin or am i being incredibly stupid and there is some kind of "sound on" button I've missed? I've been searching for an answer all afternoon with no success. Im on a 32bit machine with an AC'97 sound controller (Driver: Intel ICH, modules: modprobe snd_intel8X0, Bus:

So I've been trying to install OpenSUSE on my laptop. The installation went smoothly and then the trouble comes: connecting to the internet. It seems that every time I run a KDE based distro, I have trouble connecting. I've done everything I can think of (which wasn't much): I've run the YaST and tried setting it up that way. I've tried using the terminal and iwconfig to no avail.
i have setup a dhcp server using opensuse11 where i have a static internet connection for eth1 with ip is 172.x.x.x & getway 172.x.x.1 dns1 & dns2. now i have configure my eth0 as dhcp server with ip 192.168.10.1. & range 200-220. now server is working when i am connecting from host, it is reachable to both the ethernet on server but not able to access the getway of eth1 i.e. 172.x.x.1 nor able to acess internet.
I have Suse 10.1 installed on my laptop. I do have an ip address, ifconfig says 192.168.1.4, but from my browser I cannot access the internet. I disabled the Firewall and have Security Settings set to Networked Workstation. My system can be accessed from an other machine via PuTTY... I would like to be able to access the internet from this machine, but don't know what goes wrong here...
I am trying to connect to my network. I am dual-booting with windows 7 ultimate and that connects just fine. When I plug in my ethernet cable to the LAN adapter of the motherboard nothing happens. In the network manager it doesn't even acknowledge something has been connected (ie no eth0 or anything). I'm guessing that I don'tave a driver for it installed under linux. The adapter is the Marvell Yukon 8059 (88E8059 I think)
if I can update the OS (new security updates, patches etc also) on a system that ain't having any internet connection. Simply i would like to know if there is any packs like rpm/ tar files available, so that we can install the updates easily..I am using opensuse..
I have a Toshiba M400 tablet laptop. I installed SuSE 11.2 and have connection to the internet via internal wireless connection to modem zoomtown. I click on mozilla or konquorer but get a blank webpage. I've tried everything I can think of but have not been successful.
i have configured the network as far as i can but when i click into samba shares and my home network comes up i click into the home network and the the available computers and printers are shown but when i click to open a site it just shows 0 files i have tried to share all files within my encrypted network but im still not doing something right. the same sites show up and all files are shared on my Windows computers and printerswhat am i missing or doing wrong? im using open suse 11.3 and KDE and Samba Shares.
my laptop, an Acer Aspire 5050, recently broke horribly. However, after giving it to an IT teacher at my college, he fixed it, but now the operating system is OpenSuse 11.2 (It was Windows Vista Home Basic before). I have never used OpenSuse, or any Linux before, but everything seemed fine. However, I discovered that I can no longer pick up my wireless internet signal - why is this and what can I do to fix it?! Be aware I am not a computer man, and will not understand complicated technical language.
I'm using ZyXEL 660HW T2 router for my internet connection. The router is already set up.., my connection is working on winXP(just plug the cable and that's it). How to connect my suse 11.2 to internet? I tried to setup in YaST --> Network Settings
I am able to access internet, can ping other machines and can ssh into other machines. But cannot be pinged (it just hangs), and when trying to ssh into machine, it also hangs (no response)I checked the sshd daemon, it is not runningchkconfig --add sshdreboot, the sshd does not seem to come up.
I have setup a dhcp server on eth0, & i have static Internet connection on eth1. now clients are getting ip automatically, they are able to trace root upto eth0 & eth1. but i am not able to access Internet from client machines. i am using open suse11 as a server. i am not able to do telnet & ftp also from client. i am able to access Internet from server. so please help me to configure my server so that i can access Internet from client machines also.
In openSuse I can connect to a wireless network. It says that it is connected, and I can open the router page (http://192.168.1.1/basic.html). But I cannot load any other pages. Nothing else recognizes internet either; I tried using konqueror, YAST and wget with the command line, and none of them could load anything. It is not a router problem or a wireless card problem because both Ubuntu and Kubuntu can connect, from the same computer. I know this is odd because in the only other thread I could find with this issue, it was a different distro and installing openSuse seemed to fix it.
Iam using suse linux desktop 10.0. when i connect tata photon USB modem for internet, the system recognises the USB device but unable to connect to internet. How to use tata photon in suse linux
I have carmic installed in dell laptop with 2.7 ghz celeron processor. CPU usage after startup is between 20-30 %. After I start ANY web browser (firefox, chrome, opera, midori, galeon) CPU is used above 90%. It's the same on any web site, without flash player. Browsers are using at least 60% CPU. Everything else is ok. It was the same case with 9.04 installed in past.
I bought this laptop several years ago. It had Vista. Just long enough for me to download SUSe, nuke and pave the HD and install Linux. Recently I upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB of RAM, the maximum that is allowed given the motherboard (based on from what I am able to learn the Intel 945 chipset).
After upgrading to 4 GB, the machine (according to "My Computer") only sees 2.9 GB. I understand that under an earlier version of the BIOS that the machine would not recognize the RAM correctly. Additionally the "My Computer" page lists the display as "Intel 945GM". My problem is that I can find no Linux utility to flash the BIOS on this machine-- Toshiba only provides the BIOS included in an .exe file for either XP or Vista. I am hesitant to use the BIOS for the Intel 945 series motherboards from their site.
I am running memory test on SUSE, Memory test is just writing some patterns into a memory and reading it back in all CPU threads. After a while, when memory test is running in the background , I am trying to reset the system by echo b> /proc/sysrq-trigger command, Upon SUSE warm reset , I am seeing some UNCORRECTABLE MEMORY ERROR in model specific register (MSR : 0x421),
I am seeing this behavior on one of my server which has huge amount of memory.,Have you ever seen this UCECC error when SUSE generates warm reset when memory test in the background ?
I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.
