SUSE :: Unable To Set Up Internet?

I'm having trouble setting up my internet connectionI have cable internet. The laptop is connected directly to the modem (no router, no wireless).I just installed suse 10.0 from dvd onto my laptopWhen I use YAST to go network devices network card, an Ethernet card is detected.It said it was unconfigured so I chose to edit:Device Type: EthernetSetup method: Autom. Addr. i have setup a dhcp server using opensuse11 where i have a static internet connection for eth1 with ip is 172.x.x.x & getway 172.x.x.1 dns1 & dns2. now i have configure my eth0 as dhcp server with ip 192.168.10.1. & range 200-220. now server is working when i am connecting from host, it is reachable to both the ethernet on server but not able to access the getway of eth1 i.e. 172.x.x.1 nor able to acess internet.

When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory.

I am running the latest suse release downloaded directly from their website. I ran the installation after buring the dvd and everything seemed to be working fine. after the installation i ran updates and used it for a little bit. When i shut it down that night and went to restart it I got an error that stated the OS wasnt there. I then went through the installation and everything and it retained the information from the installation before (web history etc.) but for some reason every time I reboot or shut it down the system is not able to read the startup information from the hard drive and will not come on without me re installing it.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?

Just started using openSuse 11.2 and I'm really liking the desktop. I got my head around the software repo's and got all my drivers working but I just can't work out how to get sound on firefox. Videos play fine (that was my problem with Mandriva) and the sound works everywhere else (Amorak,desktop sounds, etc) but firefox is silent (not just flash stuff). I've installed flash, java, mplayer and Gstreamer (but I had to change the vendor options). Am I missing some magic plugin or am i being incredibly stupid and there is some kind of "sound on" button I've missed? I've been searching for an answer all afternoon with no success. I'm unable to acces the internet trough my browsers in Suse 11.3, my router assigns me a IP and I'm able to use Skype and Transmission but not my browsers; Firefox and Opera. I've been using the network at school today, there we have manually set our own IPs but now I'm back home and back to using DHCP. And yes, i have set the ipv4 back from "manually" to DHCP.
This is really confusing, I'm currently writing from my Arch install on the same computer. This works fine. The ifconfig output in both Suse and Arch is the exact same:

So I've been trying to install OpenSUSE on my laptop. The installation went smoothly and then the trouble comes: connecting to the internet. It seems that every time I run a KDE based distro, I have trouble connecting. I've done everything I can think of (which wasn't much): I've run the YaST and tried setting it up that way. I've tried using the terminal and iwconfig to no avail.

I have Suse 10.1 installed on my laptop. I do have an ip address, ifconfig says 192.168.1.4, but from my browser I cannot access the internet. I disabled the Firewall and have Security Settings set to Networked Workstation. My system can be accessed from an other machine via PuTTY... I would like to be able to access the internet from this machine, but don't know what goes wrong here...

I am trying to connect to my network. I am dual-booting with windows 7 ultimate and that connects just fine. When I plug in my ethernet cable to the LAN adapter of the motherboard nothing happens. In the network manager it doesn't even acknowledge something has been connected (ie no eth0 or anything). I'm guessing that I don'tave a driver for it installed under linux. The adapter is the Marvell Yukon 8059 (88E8059 I think)

i have configured the network as far as i can but when i click into samba shares and my home network comes up i click into the home network and the the available computers and printers are shown but when i click to open a site it just shows 0 files i have tried to share all files within my encrypted network but im still not doing something right. the same sites show up and all files are shared on my Windows computers and printerswhat am i missing or doing wrong? im using open suse 11.3 and KDE and Samba Shares.

my laptop, an Acer Aspire 5050, recently broke horribly. However, after giving it to an IT teacher at my college, he fixed it, but now the operating system is OpenSuse 11.2 (It was Windows Vista Home Basic before). I have never used OpenSuse, or any Linux before, but everything seemed fine. However, I discovered that I can no longer pick up my wireless internet signal - why is this and what can I do to fix it?! Be aware I am not a computer man, and will not understand complicated technical language.

I am able to access internet, can ping other machines and can ssh into other machines. But cannot be pinged (it just hangs), and when trying to ssh into machine, it also hangs (no response)I checked the sshd daemon, it is not runningchkconfig --add sshdreboot, the sshd does not seem to come up.

I have setup a dhcp server on eth0, & i have static Internet connection on eth1.
now clients are getting ip automatically, they are able to trace root upto eth0 & eth1.
but i am not able to access Internet from client machines. i am using open suse11 as a server.
i am not able to do telnet & ftp also from client. i am able to access Internet from server.
so please help me to configure my server so that i can access Internet from client machines also.

In openSuse I can connect to a wireless network. It says that it is connected, and I can open the router page (http://192.168.1.1/basic.html). But I cannot load any other pages. Nothing else recognizes internet either; I tried using konqueror, YAST and wget with the command line, and none of them could load anything. It is not a router problem or a wireless card problem because both Ubuntu and Kubuntu can connect, from the same computer. I know this is odd because in the only other thread I could find with this issue, it was a different distro and installing openSuse seemed to fix it.

I have wired ethernet to my laptop. I want to be able to share my network connection with my iphone.
I have set up masquerading:
I have configured my wlan0 to a static IP - 192.168.1.100/24 call iwconfig to configure wlan0
I see the network pop up on my phone, I configure my own statis IP there, 192.168.1.100 as gateway
Success - I can connect to google for about 30 sec.
If I check iwconfig again, there is no longer a essid specified but a "CELL" value instead - and this is changing every 10 sec or so.
With the above I'm quite happy that I've configured everything OK except for iwconfig - why is it dropping my config?
I've a broadcom wifi nic and I'm using ndiswrapper.

I have installed the gspca2 driver for my webcam, but in kopete, I still get only a wierd multi colored/scrambled thick line across the top of the webcam screen and the rest remains blank. This is in Kopete.In Kopete, under video, under device, under input, it shows "sonixj" and the device is "USB camera". I know the webcam works in Win7/Vista/XP, but I am trying to get away from using those OSs.
I had tried the 1 click SuSE install of the gspca2 driver but it wouldn't complete the install. Doing it in YaST directly seemed to work but I still get the same bad screen when using the webcam, which has it's LED light up.

Amarok crashes every time I try to run it. I also deleted it and installed from the packman repository and had the same error. Is this a dependency problem with amarok? Also have a similar problem with kaffine. At the moment, I get by with mp3blaster.

Running 11.3 on an Acer aspire 2920 laptop. OS is up and running as are other applications. I have been trying to install a .wmv player (for CBT), (kaffeine, MPlayer, VLC) and also crossover for linux. In all cases I get "Installation of package xxxxx rpm failed".
The system downloads without problem but the issue appears to be on the actual installation side.
