I just installed Ubuntu, and the Wifi works just fine - E.g. downloading updates works like a charm But when I try to access a page in Firefox or Chrome they just keep loading the webpage, but never show me anything For the record, I'm using 10.04 32-bit. Don't know how must more information to give..But from this, does anyone have an idea, on how to fix it?

I've tried on three different computers with dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and get the same results...If I boot into windows, I can browse the pages with no problems, however, in Ubuntu these pages just hang at certain points...Is there some setting I can adjust to improve web performance?[URL]Orbrowse by location, a warning sign appears, click 'agree' and wait endlessly...Why would these pages work correctly on Windows, but not in Ubuntu?I HATE having to boot into Windows, so if I can avoid it I will!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64bit and am having a problem with Firefox. I'm currently dual booting windows 7 and Ubuntu. My net works perfectly on Windows 7 and even on Ubuntu I was able to download a NVIDIA driver and 193MB worth of updates for Ubuntu. I just can't seem to load any webpages on Firefox. I have DHCP enabled but I also tried a static IP address but still had no success. I also tried adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox cycling through no proxy, Auto-detect proxy settings etc. but i still could not load any pages.
The error message is always "The connection has timed out. The server at ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond." I've tried other websites and can't load them. As a point of interest I was able to access my routers web config page.
I had actually the same problem in 10.10, but I was patiently hoping that 11.04 will fix it for me. At the moment it's facebook(nothing will load) and lifehacker(mainpage will load,but further on no news will load) First of it loads facebook after fresh install, but when i closed firefox, and reopened it, it won't load. I pinged facebook.com and it's working:S Chrome for instance loaded facebook atm, but didnt load lifehacker news aswell. Altho Windows on same machine will do it perfectly. I would like to use 100% ubuntu, but its not possible if some essential webpages won't load
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Debian 6. I noticed that when ever I try to open certain websites, the pages doesn't load at all. This happens when I try to open [URL] and certain other web pages. Browsers like chrome, epiphany, iceweasel, opera all had the same issue. The download speed is pretty normal. note that disabling ipv6 inside the browser configuration didn't help fight this issue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe wired internet connection for my notebook works fine after starting up Fedora. Webpages load quickly. But if I close the notebook for as little as 10 minutes, webpages won't load at all, even though NetworkManager still shows that there's an internet connection.
Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't fix the problem, and neither does logging out and logging back in. Restarting the computer does fix the problem. This problem doesn't occur with Windows 7 on the same machine.
For some reason I can't load any webpages with FF. I get this error: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-us.mozilla. I can ping everything and ssh and other protocols work just fine. Here is the output of my /etc/resolv.conf file (Comcast)

I haven't used linux in years, but decided to try out Ubuntu. I'm a total newb at this but it has been pretty easy to transition over from Vista. I have had no problem with it for months, and then all of a sudden my internet doesn't work. It says that it is connected to my router but i can't connect to the internet. Typical troubleshooting has not helped. Most advice I have gotten was to try installing the NDISwrapper, but Ubuntu won't let me install it without internet access (that, or the package I tried to use from my USB is messed up??).
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo last night I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 using the WUBI installer, everything went well and it installed, but there was one problem. I didn't have any wireless networking options, so I scavenged this forum using google and came across on how to fix it using System -> Adminstrator -> Additional Drivers. I reset my laptop(Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 I believe) and to my success, I was able to join my network. So I took out the cable(The wired connection has worked since fresh install) and it didn't work... I updated using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted, hoping it would work, but it didn't.

The problem = Midori / other browsers are too unstable with Flash; but Konqueror is lightning-fast with Flash and apparently takes up the least resources too. But the problem with that is, the aforementioned 20 seconds to 2 minute web page load time, even though I have 5-8 MBps cable Internet.
Midori is a little slow too to load web pages, now that I think about it, but faster once I have first visited a domain.
currently on an acer aspire 5532, and using mozilla and google chrome. webpages take about 10-12 seconds to load using the ethernet, wifi its about 2-3 seconds. using eth0 loading videos - broadcast yourself. in chrome, will sit at "resolving host" for about 10 seconds before bringing up the page. you would think eth0 is faster than wlan0, but for browsing the web its slower. i tested the speeds at speedtest.net - the global broadband speed test and both wlan0 and eth0 get the max speed my internet provides.i never downloaded drivers for the ethernet card or wifi, they worked so i didn't try to mess with them. but perhaps that is my problem?

just installed ubuntu 10.4 and almost all websites load properly except facebook. the problem is persistent with all browsers: opera, firefox, chrome. if i use the same programs with windows 7, facebook loads properly. basically, the log in page comes up....howerver, once i sign on only the very top blue bar loads. videos works perfectly - i have flash installed correctly. i've never had this problem on ubuntu before. thinking there was something wrong with ubuntu 10.4 i installed 10.10. the problem still persists. also, i can not load facebook with jolicloud. i have an asus 64 bit laptop.

My web browser (Firefox or any other web browsers) can't completely load the desired webpages like yahoo.com or even google.com.But as I read different blogs in this forum, I have convinced myself that there is an internet connection.= when I ping different websites, Iseem to get good responses from those sites. Only when I need to browse the webpage do get no results.= ifconfig seems to respond well enough.= even "route" shows the IP my router/gateway correctly. The problem , I think, lies on the proxy settings or the DSN.

I havent made and changes yesterday! I dont know what is wrong! I am new to ubuntu and I dont know what to do! when I connect directly to modem I have internet it works good, but when I connect through my (LAN or Wireless) router I cant view web pages. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to acces the internet trough my browsers in Suse 11.3, my router assigns me a IP and I'm able to use Skype and Transmission but not my browsers; Firefox and Opera. I've been using the network at school today, there we have manually set our own IPs but now I'm back home and back to using DHCP. And yes, i have set the ipv4 back from "manually" to DHCP.
This is really confusing, I'm currently writing from my Arch install on the same computer. This works fine. The ifconfig output in both Suse and Arch is the exact same:

I'm running mac osx snow leopard 10.6.2, installed virtualbox, created a partition with it and on that I installed Ubuntu (looking more specifically, I found it is Karmic Koala). For one, is kubuntu ubuntu karmic like mine? Or is that something different? Anyways, Did all that, installed guest permissions and everything, but before that and still, when I load up firefox, I can search some google things, but whenever I go to an actual page or something that seems like it needs just a little more muscle than google searching, it just crashes and disappears. So I basically can't access the internet.
I even tried installing Google Chrome through the terminal by some tutorial on another site. It worked and I got it all installed. It does the exact same thing Firefox does. I can do a couple of searches (sometimes not even that before it crashes) but when I go any further than that, it crashes.
I've installed debian and configured the network: I do ping to the gateway and it connects, I ping one distant server directly with the IP and it can see it (but not with ping [URL]), but when I try to use internet it says that maybe the url is wrong, but it is not.
And when I try to update (apt-get update) it give me a bunch of errors :

I'm trying to load the flash stuff in webpages, but it says i need the flash plugin.
I download the YUM rpm installer, and use yum localinstall to do it.
Terminal say: /home/wade/Download/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
I have already tried installing it, and it says it worked fine, but I'm still unable to view flash.
I reinstalled fedora the other day, and it's been working just fine, apart from the internet. It shows that I have a full connection with the wireless network, but it's really difficult to actually load a page. 80% of the time it just fails and shows "Page Load Error". It's really frustrating because it is connected to the internet. In fact, the icon in the address bar even loads from the site I try to access, but websites just will not load.
I've tested my wireless internet with another laptop which is running vista, and it works perfectly on that. Also, I'm running Fedora 10 on an Acer Extensa laptop.
Is it possible to build an image on a cd that can allow me to load an image of an internet on the computer. without installing it. Like a dummy terminal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I would like to load balance or aggregate 2 separate Internet connections on my laptop. Currently a hard line ISP is not available so I'm using an Sierra Wireless 885 USB air card. Thing is the card is quite slow. I also can tether an iPhone to the laptop. The ideal solution would be to have both connections being utilized to help speed up the overall experience, even if it is only a modest gain in speed.
as I do not know much about iptables and basic TCP/IP routing, I'm finding it difficult to implement those solutions. If someone can point me in the right direction ( a slightly dumb down how:to? or better explained? )
BTW, both phone and aircard get dynamic IP's. Running Ubuntu 10.4

I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu a few days ago (on my Windows Vista Laptop), played around with it, did some trouble shooting (got my wifi card working!)... and am generally enjoying it.However, I am having issues loading my Yahoo Mail. I am using the newest version of Opera (which I also run on windows), but have tried Firefox as well. I am having absolutely no issues with Yahoo mail when I use Windows (in Opera, firefox, chrome, and IE), but can not get it to load at all with Ubuntu. Basically I can get to the Yahoo home page no problem, and can access any of the links etc., except for Mail. When I click it, I just get an error page (as if there was no Internet connection). I have not had problems with any other sites.I'm thinking its some kind of scripting/application conflict, but like I said this whole Linux thing is brand new to me. Have only ever really used Windows in the past.I'm hoping to get these minor issues hashed out, and eventually just drop Windows out of my reality.

When I am in windows the internet connection is fine but when I am in fedora everything is slow. I am connecting wirelessly to a netgear router using a D-Link DWA-552 XtremeN Desktop Adapter
I have not installed anything for the wireless card.
I have tested my speeds from here [url] and I know that I am getting around 7000kb down.
I have gone into firefox to about:config and set network.dns.disableIPv6 to true... but everything is slow.
I performed an update that has caused issues with my wireless. Errors relating to wireless firmware missing and consequently no internet connection.
I've been through this before with my 2008 macbook air BCM card whose firmware isn't included in installs. In the past I've manually installed the b43-fwcutter package an extracted some firmware... That doesn't seem to be working here.
I've used [URL]i ... cefirmware to troubleshoot. I have not been able to get b43 or wl to work.
I attempted to install the "firmware-b43-installer_015-14.1_all.deb" package; however it depends on wget to download and install "broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2" from wlfinger.com.
So I manually installed b43-fwcutter and used it to extract the broadcom-wl-5 file referenced....
modprobe wl says wl doesn't exist and modprobe b43 doesn't seem to work.

I'm having trouble install this stuff without the net and not sure installing generic headers and build-dep outside of apt-get is the way to go... linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64_3.2.57-3+deb7u2_amd64.deb has alot of dependencies that would take me a while to find and download.
I have OpenSuse 11.1 installed in a system as server (without graphics). We have 3 NICs, 2 of them connected to 2 different ISPs through gateways, as follows:
IPs for NICs: IP1=192.168.5.2/24; IP2=192.168.6.2/24 dev=eth2
Gateways: GW1=192.168.5.10; GW2=192.168.6.10 dev=eth3
Third NIC connected into the internal network with and IP=192.168.11.2/24 dev=eth0
We added ip routes and rules as follows (used tables created with vim in the rt_table file with numbers 20 & 30):

I have set up one of my linux box as link load balancer for two ADSL connection. After deployment, I have found out that instead of being fast, it has become slow. What I have observed that my request get out to internet but comes back intermittently. Is this a standard scenario ?
