View 7 Replies View RelatedI've managed to convince a few of my Backgammon playing buddies to try Linux as an OS and they're impressed with it. However there doesn't seem to be a Backgammon software available which performs well on Linux. We've tried running Windows Backgammon softwares on Wine but these don't perform well if at all. Will there be a Backgammon application available for Linux soon or is it available in Software Manager under another name? In the meantime does anyone know of one which will work well on Wine for now?

Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if it is possible to push or pull all Windows printers (about 1000) to Redhat Advanced Server? I know normally Samba comes into play, but there i can only make connection to 1 printer at the time. Also, I must then add the printers from the Windows Print Cluster by hand. Considering the huge amount of work AND the manageable aspects ( you will then have the printers on two servers), this is not an option.
So, can I connect from the RedHat server directly to the Windows Print cluster, or, if not, at least load all printers in the CUPS configuration at once? Then I have at least connection. It's a Windows 2003 R2 print cluster with RedHat 5.3 Advanced Server. Eventually the RedHat environment will be a cluster.
Recently I installed RedHat Enterprise 5 on a windows machine. The machine is configured to use DHCP, but I have been seeing some strange behavior if I do nslookup on the machine's IP:
[someuser@lin01 mydir]$ nslookup 10.5.x.x
Server: 10.10.x.xx
Address: 10.10.x.xx#53
x.x.5.10.in-addr.arpa name = xyz.something.
x.x.5.10.in-addr.arpa name = lenovo-d1690047.
x.x.5.10.in-addr.arpa name = pqdlds.
x.x.5.10.in-addr.arpa name = lin01.mydomain.com.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince it makes Windows apps work there is a possibility that also its viruses will work. I searched and a few sites mentioned such things, but none confirmed this issue.
In Wikipedia, it said this: "Because of Wine's ability to run Windows binary code, concerns have been raised over native Windows viruses and malware affecting Unix-like operating systems. Wine can run much malware, but programs running in Wine are confined to the current user's privileges, restricting some undesirable consequences. This is one reason Wine should never be run as the superuser."
Here is the link.
As far as I know, I cannot install unless I'm a root user, and I keep my Terminal as a root user opened for hours. Also, if I were to install windows apps under Wine, I'll have to log in as a root!
So let me line the questions here:
1- Does Wine activate Windows viruses?
2- Can viruses run on their own while I log in as root in Terminal or while installing apps (whether under Wine or not)?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a copy of "Riven" for Windows 95 still laying around, and I decided to see if I could run it in WINE just for the hell of it. I got the following error when I tried to run the "Setup.exe" file (or any other executable on the CD-ROM, for that matter) using WINE:
Quote:
The file '/media/Riven1/Setup.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.I read about the executable bit, and while I understand the security reasons for it being there, I would still like to know if there's a way to circumvent it, or even a workaround. I tried chmod on the exe file, but since it's on read only media, that didn't work. I'm running Lucid.
